I'm also a lightskinned metalhead, so I totally understand the tendency to tread lightly when it comes to matters of black rap culture lol, but you are spot on with your summation of K dot saying Drake uses African American culture to profit. To help a little with the references you weren't sure about, I would super recommend Genius lyrics website... really helpful for music reacts, you can click on each line and it will pop up an explanation of the reference.. almost a necessity with Kendrick's tracks cuz he leans heavy on double, triple, quadruple entendres, and I would be commenting a whole novel here to break them all down for you haha. Kendrick is an incredible writer. Gave you a sub, gonna check out some of your metal reacts!
6:16 in LA, drake responds with family matters, kendrick drops meet the grahams less than an hour after family matters then drops Not Like Us like 10 hours later.
Great video bro! I'm big into metal as much as rap. I know this video is a month old but kinda want to add some extra context. Drake tends to jump from different music scenes/cultures going from Dancehall, Afrobeats, Texas hip-hop, Memphis hip-hop, interpolating rhymes from past artist (which is a big no-no in rap, and why Drake is always a point of contention amongst other rappers), and then whenever a new artist gains popularity he has a habit of trying to collab with them. At first it would seem he's helping to boost upcoming talent but it comes off as unauthentic and "riding the wave" whiles its popular. Kendrick is telling him that he has a solid foundation with West coast music, and sure they are mainstream now but he can always go back to his roots, and that's essentially why he went with an authentic west coast style beat, plus people felt Kendrick first two disses were too mellow (which goes into the debate about people listening to music for the lyrics or for the beat). And to add, this was also retaliation to Drake using AI recordings of 2Pac and Snoop to diss Kendrick, telling him he's the bigger artist even in his hometown. Problem with him doing that, it came off as him making a mockery of those two artist, especially 2Pac. The "freed the slaves" line comes from one of Drakes' disses at Kendrick (who is known to make social-conscience music). But Kendrick throws the statement back at him showing that Drake lacks a fundamental misunderstanding of Black Americans and the impact of slavery. It doesn't help that Drake did a photoshoot in his younger days wearing black face. People were initially off-put by Kendrick Lamar's first diss because it seemed random and felt like he was attacking Drake due to him being so popular. But they had long standing issues dating back ten plus years.
The stock is a play on gun stock, but it’s about how many diss tracks he has ready to respond quickly to anything Drake puts out. Kendrick released three songs within two days. He put out Euphoria and then 6:16. Drake released Family Matter in response to 6:16 and Kendrick stepped on it by releasing “Meet the Grahams” in less than an hour. I think it was within 30 minutes. Drake isn’t part of Black American culture and he made fun of black Americans coming from slaves and doubled down on it during this battle. Since Drake used black American artist to gain cache to black culture and their fans. He’s just a foreigner using black people for a check.
You lowkey have a Seth Rogan type laugh lol you were putting your context clue skills to work 😅but I feel like you understood the point for a person that doesn’t have all the context
I’m months late replying, because RUclips takes its time to show me everyone. Your facial expressions leading up to “A minor” were gold! I’m also mostly metal and rock, but I like Kendrick a lot. 10:04 He actually held it like that, because of something Drake did in Family Matters. Drake accused Whitney (Kendrick’s fiancée) of cheating on Kendrick with his friend and business partner, Dave Free. He held “Freeeeeee” the same way Kendrick held “minor”.
Sweet chin music - wrestling move by Shawn Michaels. 69 God - Tekashi 69, registered sex offender who was with a 13 year old. OV-Ho - play on OVO drakes label. Great reaction!! Listen to more Kendrick, I recommend Alright, Swimming Pools, and Humble. 😊
I used to only listen to metal but Kendrick Lamar and Ab-Soul are the reason I tried checking out more rap.

now you gotta make a reaction of "meet the grahams"
done and delivered. 😎
@@donmowatt Euphoria was my favorite. Meet the Grahams wasn't for everyone because of the beat he used. LOL I loved it.
