There is a wonderful play put on in Oregon maybe 20 years ago called "Ghosts of Cellilo" and it tells the story of the falls, second only to Niagra and the customs of 6 tribes who fished
the falls every year on platforms & made dipnets. The fish were huge & fed lots of families all year. The Dalles Dam covered the falls, but they still are there under the high water. I am
so glad to see this beautiful video of people still fishing in the old way and catching beautiful big salmon.
We don't fish to the last fish this shows how he is concerned about the future generations love this guy.
85 years old , my hat off to ya......a beautiful place......
Native American. Veteran Native Americans. These are the most beautiful people on earth. They protect their families. They protect their country. They protect their communities. All men worldwide could learn a lot from these beautiful souls!!
What a beautiful and educational video! Thank You 🌸
lisa will you pls marry me
We need to increase hatchery output in order to give our wild fish a better chance at returning home
Been here with some native friends! Love the salmon ppl
Make those libs cry!
God bless them to keep heritage going.
Traditions are fascinating.
It's actually--> this: CHRACHICHON! I sit, on this chair, and answered, this woman, while she, sat down also- in her chair.

I would really like to know of the older guys lives. Their hats really sparked my interest.
That is unique 👌
what an amazing place to be... luck them
I Like fishing 🎣
It's so sad I remember 30 years so many salmon in the ocean. I wish we could bring back those numbers.

If thats the case, vote blue bc democrats believe in conserving for the future
@@jerrythao9321 start your own party you mean? all modern politicians in the USA are corrupt to their cores...
@@jerrythao9321 you realized thats why Californias fisheries are so fucked? its also the same reason why we only get a calendar year for our hunting and fishing licenses because these democrats can't articulate the difference between that and a license that lasts a year from the date of purchase. Same dumb asses let striped bass run amuck and screw around with the waterways to the point where native salmon aren't really a thing in califronia anymore
@@jerrythao9321 LOL!! There are no "blues/Dems" only Marxist/Commies. I gather you're either a politician, or just plain ignorant. You can't tell my people what's best for them, you have no idea how much has been taken in the name of the government. The Bye-done Regime has sold America out to China. What do the Natives do now? Count on the blue? 😆😅🤣. Since you're trying to be "helpful" how's about you go to your mighty leader and have them honor the original agreement for fishing rights on the Columbia River Gorge? Then, head to the Smithsonian and ask for the ALL the personal affects they stole from Memaloose Island? And, have yet to catalogue.
Nice Video very good
Wow amazing. Love to watch this kind of video
when in need indeed
Alaska has awesome salmon dip nets too!
Much respect for them and their customs and the fact that they were veterans oorah
I understand chief & my deep condolences. Its exactly like your history, we were drivin off our land also.
Deprived of education, our customs and belief.. jw ireland
How can you be denied your beliefs? 😂😂😂😂 You just believe and that is it...what a clown 🤡🤡🤡
Good video
Very nice
WE BUILT THIS CITY ON ROCK N ROLL! AND SALMON!
Would be a great and safe idea if they left kayaks tied to the platforms beneath them, in this case let’s hope they are experienced enough to handle one. I’m sure it’ll help and that way they have security and safety when enjoying their life long tradition.
Just a thought 💭
On the Klamath river tribal lands they extend a gill net from bank to bank and take every fish over 4" in girth....the downfall in salmon numbers is directly tied to the native Americans taking all the spawning fish out of the rivers.
Yup 👍
Amazing
That river is a blessing

Really REALLY happy some native americans are keeping their culture, knowledge, identity and way of life alive.

The most healthy way i ve seen so far
This entire Earth would have been better off in the hands of these guys, natives!!!!
@@tima.478 I always thought the same, they actually understand we rely on nature and they don’t waste a thing they take from it
@@NDwhITeBoYZ Exactly, and they also leave a very tiny footprint if any at all!!! (no trash, no waste, no dumping of non-biodegradable products)
Super early in the morning 12:01AM hehehe
Keeping up with the ancient ways, traditional lumber and monofilament.
That's right, and I'm sure the natives didn't improve their equipment and techniques over centuries... they are keeping the principles dude
@@RUclips_is_full_of_trolls Like the wheel??
@@RUclips_is_full_of_trolls like metal untensils??
@@gravel_guppies4620 lol are you really that mentality challenged? The material used varies over time, shape, structure, techniques... you think the first people that settled in that area just had it figured out from the start? No, they built and refined their techniques and technology over hundreds of years... always using the best tools and technology for a successful harvest... stop being butthurt by some guys netting salmon and surely eating it... how many fresh fish have you eaten or wasted? Fish that were harvested using commercial techniques that produce mainly by catch
@@RUclips_is_full_of_trolls mentally challenged? Maybe. But you're kinda arguing against your words. I dont have time nor mental capacity to explain but eventually you'll figure it out.
Its wonderful seeing the beauty of native cultures but occasionally there are few that always ruins it for everyone.

Catching brooo
Whats so traditional about modern long aluminum poles and nylon nets?
Tools of old were made of hemp twine attached to wooden hoops and long poles... it’s just much easier with today’s technology. A thinner wire hoop net gives less resistance against the fast current.
The practice is moron
They are leeching the system same as white man
@@DarkVenom1432 what system would that be?
With modern tools and paved spots they can easily... But how is it traditional?
I wanna net one
ok your videos... i'm from indonesia
A única comida,número 1 da minha vida, é peixe!!!!!
nice trick
V NICE
I'm here 2021
Me too
Those huge commercial fisheries trolling the bottom of the sea especially the coral reefs are the problems.
Do the tribes have a set quota? How many are you allowed to keep when open?
Didn't you watch the video? There not there to make quota
They are there to waste the fish.
They just let the fish get rotten. They don’t eat fish that much and they are extremely filthy
Pure and just beautiful people there
🎉
Untuk anda. Salam dari indonesia. Ditempat itu sepertinya ada emas cobalah dengan metal detektor.
Imposible...continue comfirm gaes...
It’s not fishing it’s netting.

That seems like, it's fit for: cilicone metal- structure.
Everything deteriorates over time. Yes, metal may last longer, but which would be better for the river should a slippery piece of rusted metal fall into the river? This is the way it's been done for centuries, and hopefully for many to come.
Это в какой стране???
Wow is so dangerous
What you didn’t see is the Yakamas selling their catch to commercial buyers.
So, they can do whatever they want with them. You like money? so does everyone else. you are on native land
Go back to Europe then ?

you could also fish bottom fish out of a kayak, but that would require you to move a bit more. thats a sustainable fishery that even i without a tribal certification can harvest all the meat i need to live.

I can see many americans talking about over fishing and those fishermen playing “ancient culture”. You can’t kill fish but you can go ahead with red indians. Wow..!
I love traditional fishing!
Make America native again
Ko hau America ko America a hau I am America America is me
Hi
Ok.
I didn't see any fishing in this video.
Fishing isn’t just using a rod
@@jackclair6945 if you are not using a hook or bait you are trapping fish. That is not fishing. I mean I'm not telling you you can't have your opinion on the topic but *I* did not see any fishing in this video.
Why is it not fishing, fishing can be a wide range of things
These people aren't out on the river to enjoy themselves. They're out there to put food on the table, help give themselves an economy (so, in other words, they're there for their survival), and keep their traditions alive. They're not there to lose fish with a hook and line in that current. Any intelligent person who is trying to actually catch fish in order to eat would do what they are doing.
These are trout fishes
That's not fishing. That's called catching.
joe bustos thats rigth
joe--Have you ever tried handling a very large net? Don't speak of what you don't know---
Brian Skinner No I use a pole to fish. looks pretty easy if that old guy is doing it.
joe--I use a rod as well but remember this--if it looks easy you are watching someone good.
Brian Skinner let's see stick a net in the narrow part of flowing water, wait for fish to swim into net then pull up. Seems pretty simple. Not knocking there tradition but that's not fishing.
МОЛОДЕЦ АХПЕР
Those who came here from Europe for a new life, stole the land and pushed the Natives into poverty and wanted to cut off their livelihoods. Your ancestors must be proud!
That happened all over the globe to all kinds of people's. if you do your homework you'll find the life of the Indian was not a fairy tale storybook there was mass genocides, slavery ,'starvation ,headhunters. and some tribe's would not be here at all if not for the European. just sayin
That was the law of the land, Indian tribes were fighting each other over territory all the time,
Your soy boy, woke bulshhit is severely misguided
When a native does it in they're homeland its "not right" and "over fishing" or "poaching" but when white people do it its perfectly fine ive watched more videos of white people dipnetting in Alaska then any native in the lower states and obviously we are out numbered by the white fisherman and its not just the white people either each year there are more and more people fishing you can see non natives that are fishing shoulder to shoulder on almost every river when us natives have the same rivers boundaries that we cant fish past an we cant use fish finders like the people on boats do
