Mr. Dork. There is another way that works pretty slick if you have a welder. You can put a nut over the top of it and weld through the hole to the broken off stud or bolt or in your cast the extractor, then turn it out like a regular bolt. It works great and that's my main go to on even the worst broken bolts.

I'm planning to do the WYBDR and COBDR next summer. I'm sure I'll have a fun time because this bike is so much FUN to ride. Thanks for the content and hope you'll share more about the 300 Rally. I took my Rally to Mardi Gras yesterday., I got so many compliments, looks, stares, and questions from a bunch of drunk people. It was like being an alien amongst a bunch of Harley Davidsons. Even the cops liked it though. The lower crash bars for this bike just make more sense, since it’s that big bulky lower fairing that gets messed up before anything else. And Zeta hand guards, with triple tree mounts, are so rigid and durable, that it protects so much of the upper portion of the bike when you crash. I’ve done it about 4 times so far and zero damage. It still looks new. Motogadget m-blaze LED turn signals from Revzilla is a solid option.
It's great to see another guy on RUclips that's not a beginner rider keeping this bike. I got my learners permit for a motorbike yesterday so I've been wanting a crf300 rally but you hear so much noise from people complaining that there's better bikes out there. The only competitor this has is a drz400e but it costs more for a 20 year old bike with no fuel gauge and uses almost 2x more fuel. The extra power of that bike would be fun, I'm very torn between the 2 models but I think the crf300 rally would be the smarter choice for a 50/50 bike
Your content normally inspires me to continue to develop better habits. Today, your content helped me to justify my poor chain maintenance. "At least I'm doing better than The Dork." LOL, love the content!

People have mentioned the use of a welded nut to remove the EZ-out. Masonry bit is a cheaper and easier solution. Enjoy knowing that the healthy amount of sarcastic self-talk is a commonly shared trait among aspiring mechanics.
I'm straddling the fence on what to buy. CRfl300 or KLR 650. I've always rode dirtbikes. My first bike was a new 1995 KX 125 2 stroke and love the look of them. The KLR is definitely a fantastic bike and has lots to offer. Just trying so hard to convince myself to swap over to a different look. Thanks for the videos. Keep them coming
I feel for you on the broken bolt. One of the engine mounts on my CB500X broke and I shouldn’t be allowed near power tools. The “farmer fix” of drilling straight through and putting a nut on the other end doesn’t look the best but it’s solid.
I'm jealous that you have a lift and a Rabaconda, like a real mechanic. I use a car floor jack with some ratchet straps as a lift but I do have a motion pro tire changer, but its not awesome.

Really, i think it's that these simple bikes are similar size engines to what i trained with during MSF--they are so light weight it is bonkers not to grab one as a second bike for shits n giggles.
Excellent idea to use old kitchen cabinets for your workshop. Been doing that for 40 years. Just didn't have a set to take with me to the new shop. Definitely not a how-to video 🙂 Not your fault, of course. You haven't been taking lawnmowers and lawn tractors, and cars and motorcycles apart since you were seven. You've never done drum brakes, rebuilt a carb, don't know why a two stroke has two rings and a four stroke has three, rebuilt calipers, rewound a stator. By the time yer an old fart like me, you'll have the hang of it.
I'm surprised the 300 Rally is so popular. It weighs almost as much as a DR650 for I think the same price but with half the torque and worse suspension and is actually more top heavy than the big single. You could argue the DR has a carb and only five gears but neither give issue. A DR is faster in fourth or fifth gear than a CRF can go at any altitude and the revs are lower at highway speeds.
Another great video! I just got the word yesterday, my rally, ordered on your recommendation, might arrive as soon as next week! I just bought this bike. I want a set of crash guards that protect my side fairings and can also hold a set of driving lights. Any suggestions for crash bars that meet this criteria?
Always better to go slow and careful when doing mechanic work. When you get in a hurry, bad things can happen. Good job. Been there and done that with the easy out. Definitely a real bitch!
I don't remember; did you replace the way-too-soft suspension? That's been the biggest thing holding me back from this bike, even though I've replaced the suspension on most of the expensive bikes I've owned. This one being cheap SHOULD mean I would assume I was going to do it, instead of avoiding the bike for that reason alone.
Every time you do a garage maintenance video I laugh thinking "That 70's kitchen called and wants it's cabinets back." BTW, who's lift did you go with? I'm assuming Harbor Freight, but you know what they say about assumptions.
Pretty sure those are the original kitchen cabinets from this house. They moved them to the garage when they redid them in the 90s. This is the Harbor Freight lift. Cheapest I could find.

The more mods you add to a stock bike the more unreliable they become. The aftermarket follows popular bikes like a wolf pack follows a buffalo herd. So there are a lot of such products pimped as "improvements." Japanese automotive engineers are some of the best on Earth. They practice "all-in" engineering. That is, almost everything is made to work as a whole. Mods, especially engine, exhaust, and wiring, violate that engineering. You end up with a bike that is not only less reliable, but then becomes a nightmare to troubleshoot. As an example, simple wiring spices become a point of failure that did not exist on the stock bike.
