- My Yamaha Fazer FZ6-S2 ... Valve clearances... Need checking. Let's do that then.
On the FZ6 S2 the valve clearances need checking as a service item every 24k miles or so... That was 2k miles ago... Best dig deep into my innner self and the inner workings of this highly engineered and cleverly built engine.. and hope they are ok!!
It's not a diesel... Not a Peugeot... and has no turbo....What am I doing!?! - NOT A CLUE!

hello, im 19 years old and very new when it comes to maintaining bikes myself. I've only ever done oil and air filter, thats all. Im thinking of picking up a used FZ6 with 59K km and the seller says its been "yearly maintained" but he has no idea about valves. The price is good but this service potentially not having been done is my only worry as I would either have to pay a fortune for it to be done, or do it myself. This looks very scary to do myself.
Hi there .. it's pretty intensive digging this deep into an engine for the first time ... Id say the biggest issue is if a valve clearance is out of spec .... You'll then need to change the shims out for different size etc... I'd recommend negotiating a lower price to factor in the cost of paying a garage to do this for you 👍🐖🐖

Great video! I've owned a 07 since new and have just about 50k miles on it. One of the sports bike forums has a write up with photos of step by step changing the spark plugs without removing all the other stuff. I've done it in about ½ hours time. Cylinder 4 takes most of the time. I like to know how to do things and do most of my own maintenance, but will pay my (trusted) mechanic to do the valve check and adjustment, 😆. Some things I just don't have the time or patience to do myself with my schedule. Shim under bucket valves on a 4 cylinder is one. Maybe some day when I'm retired.
Haha! Yes, I'm all about the learning too. I just ensure I have the time to overcome hurdles if I get them. So I don't rush and make errors. It's good to hear of a FZ6 going strong with 50k on the clock! Did you get a report on the gaps? Curious about wear. Mine is on 26/27k when I did mine. Thanks for watching and subscribing 😃 🐷💪
@@PiggyPower didn't ask for one, as the dealer did it under a service contract I had with them at the time. I'd be surprised if the where out of spec. These engines are built like tanks and most people don't ride them as hard as they are built to run most of the time. Many people have ran them up to and over 100k without having to change shims. One thing to keep an eye on is the timing chain tensioner since they can fail causing major engines damage. These engines are noise, but if it sounds like excessive chain rattling best to check it. Other then that, with care they will last a long time.
Yeah nice. I had no other options in my mind when I returned to bikes. I couldn't see anything else on the market at this price that does everything so brilliantly. And reliably!
2007 fz6 has 36,000 on it haven't had it long checked valves around 34,000 and we're in spec leaning towards a couple needing adjustment soon planning on checking again this weekend just for peace of mind. First bike and I plan on doing all my maintenance videos like yours help alot
No worries! Yeah a couple of mine were right on the one end of it... But then, they could have been that way from factory= no wear at all! I've heard of 60k mile bikes still within spec, just keep on top of oil changes and don't redline from cold!

Noooo. They are designed to spin up fast. Get her up there! I find beyond 13k rpm, power tails off (which corresponds to peak power rpm) ...8k-12k rpm is where it sings!
@@PiggyPower i run it out to around 8500 sometimes have felt the 10k kick a couple of times, I try to stay calm on it don't want any tickets plus I've only been on a bike for about 2500 miles total ever
What is the square controller by your left-hand grip? I've spotted that in your video and one more on fz6
