Its good to see that those areas around Quiapo, Recto, Quezon Blvd and Avenida are now well lighted. I guess, Mayor Isko made it a point to put lighting in those areas. That area was not well lighted 25-30 years ago. Things have improved for the better. Phil GDP per capita was less than 2k 2 decades ago. In 2023, per capita GDP is +/- $4k. Changes should be felt and experienced on the street level. I also observe, streets are not very littered with garbage compared to before. EDIT: Some parts of Recto is still not well lighted.

post-isko, the changes within the actual city of manila are now minimal again compared with how most of the component cities within the metro have vastly improved. the locals have fallen back to the pre-isko bad habits. tinderos are now crowding the sidewalk again, litter is seen everywhere, people are moving to walk on the street again.. i dont want to say something political, but you can tell isko is no longer the mayor due to how its starting to return to how it was pre-2017...
let's hope that major corporate land developers take interest in renovating and developing manila the same way they developed taguig (bgc; mckinley hills), makati, pasig (ortigas; greenfield district; bridgetowne; arcovia), muntinlupa (filinvest alabang), qc (eastwood; araneta city), san juan (greenhills), mandaluyong (pioneer), pasay and paranaque (aseana city). manila city hall isnt interested in improving the city anymore for its residents..

@@derbdep That's the point, why does it have to involve private corporations. These companies exist for profit. Maintenance of the streets really is the job of government/ LGU. It seems the Philippine government followed the pattern of the US which started with Reagan - supply side economics. "Let the government get out of business and allow business to run things." It leads to more productivity and eventually more wealth creation. The result - the rich became richer and did not actually create and expand an empowered middle class. There are really things that government should be doing because it is their job. Not the private sector. Private sector is there to support the LGU. An empowered citizen will be consumers and good for business.
