I've played a female Roegadyn since I started, back in January 2014. We've always been the least-played group - typically about 1-3% of any given server. Back then, that meant I could go weeks without seeing another one, whether NPC or player, outside of our occasional interactions with Merlwyb. Then, in 2.4, they introduced this brash, brilliant character who fits right into our squad and is unapologetically herself. And then, not even a whole patch later, they took her away again, in as permanent a way as possible. I'll always look at it as one of the worst storytelling decisions they've ever made. Since then, there have been minor femroe characters flitting in and out of the MSQ (Midnight Dew in Idyllshire, Stark Woad in late Stormblood) and important ones in its side content (Mitsuba and Misija come to mind), but there's never been another I thought might endure as a member of the core supporting characters. When Endwalker came out, it had been around six and a half years since 2.5. I was pleased that Ishikawa had acknowledged Moenbryda frequently in Shadowbringers, and even moreso in Endwalker as the story and sidequests progressed, but I still expected it to come to little. And then this scene happened, and I ended up full-body sobbing into a pillow for almost ten minutes, so much so that my wife came over to check on me. It felt like someone finally understood just how important this character was to some of us, and offered us a long-belated catharsis. I didn't realize until that second how much that meant to me. I still miss her, but I don't feel cheated by her loss in the same way as I did before.
I play femroe and basically exactly built like Moenbryda so I was unbelievably excited when she showed up, twins! And then…. I play a walking reminder of what happened to her, I had so many feelings here
Moenbryda became my favourit "Scion" the moment she entered the scene. I love loud, energetic characters who bring out something new from the people around them. I was devastated by her loss, much more than about Haurchefant. I was so happy that they included her.
Apparently Moenbryda was one of the NPCs Ishikawa created according to an interview. And she apparently was furious when another writer went and killed her off so quickly. I like to think that both ShB and EW are her revenge. She lost her beloved NPC so now she gets to make the rest of us cry.
At PAX East this year, Yoshi-P said (for our pleasure as much as his own), the Urianger-and-Moen's-Parents scene is his absolute favourite. What a moment to witness.
I've seen the scene of Urianger reuniting with Moenbryda's parents multiple times on other people's playthroughs and it makes me cry. Every. Single. Time.
Ah, I see you've reached the Advanced Hugging Technology cutscene. It's a shame it took so long to be able to rig that up properly, even for a cutscene with two specific characters so they don't have to make it work for everyone - but I don't think there's anyone more deserving of being in that hug.
I think a part of why they didn't do it for Thancred and Ryne (as many would like) is simply due to their size differences. I imagine the 3d skeletons to be quite a bit limited, and it might just not have looked good.. Or perhaps they just felt a hand on the head to be more appropriate for Thancred.. *shrug*
@@ExileTwilight The skeleton rigs are actually really really complex. The reason they don't do this often is because it takes a hell of a lot of effort to get all the bones moving properly.
I knew Moenbryda's parents weren't going to blame Urianger, but I fully epected Bloewyda to slap him silly for avoiding them. The hug was instant water works.
The moment with Moenbryda's parents, for me, was and is one of the best moments in the game. I don't know how many times I've seen this and I still bawled right along with you. Again, thank you so much for sharing.
I've been playing XIV since ARR beta phase 3 and out of *every* cutscene, NOTHING has hit me as hard as this scene. In ARR, I felt anger at Noraxia's fate, at Livia for harming a *child* like that. In HW, grief over Ysayle especially. Sympathy for Count Edmund. Again in SB for Gosetsu and Tsuyu, and of course in ShB, everyone knows. But all of those emotions paled in comparison to how rough Moenbryda's parents hit me. The only time I had to step away from the game to take a breather.
Midgardsormr is my favorite. Dude traveled across space as the last of his race, "died" destroying the Agrius, then just decides to wake up and do whatever he wants between naps. Even though he's dead. And NO ONE QUESTIONS IT. It's just like... Well of course, you think death would be anything but a mild inconvenience to him?
I just saw this cutscene for the first time last night myself. I have watched it over and over and I cry and cry and cry. This one hits hard. Harder than Moenbrydas death back in ARR to be honest. Back then I didn't know how very important she was for him but after seeing this I wish I could go back and save her as well. But now at least Urianger gets the closure he deserved.
Moenbryda's death didn't bother me much. I think i had a few tears for her... But seeing this closure for Urianger... One of my favorite characters alongside G'raha. It made me cry like a baby so so much. especially after seeing him struggling through it the entire time. He might have done so many questionable things. But he is a good man. just wanting to do the best he can. He deserves the hugs. and i am so happy he has family that cares do deeply for him.
Did you wonder why everyone was asking you if you did Coils? You didn't include that part in your video but during the talk with Kokkol the WoL can have a PTSD flashback where he imagines the White Raven's ghost haunting him, and Alisaie has to comfort them. That isn't an option if you haven't done Coils and all you have is the cheerful "should I go get the whatsits" or complaining about more chores. One thing to keep in mind for Moenbryda is it's been longer for Urianger than for her parents, since he spent years on the First, but he's still in mourning. So the WoL and the scions are out on a leisurely boat trip. While the WoL is below deck to go to the bathroom, their fishing rod jerk as a fish gets hooked on the line. So Y'shtola grabs a hold of the rod and says: "Until our friend returns, I will hold the line." Meanwhile, Alisae is keeping a watch for more fish from the rear of the boat when Alphinaud join her. Alisae pouts and says: "I can look aft myself, you know."

Zenos' dialogue is one of those unbearable truths to many. I accept what he says. Yet I retain my own will so do not feel compelled to act in such a way. But Zenos is correct in his assessment.
Zenos has always been honest. You don’t have to like him to acknowledge how he acts. Trust me, I don’t like him but he is so different to many other antagonists with more complexities.
Zenos is absolutely right in what he said. But at the same time, so was Alisae. She struck to the core of Zenos' problem, his great malaise - He seeks connection with others, like any other person. But he's unable to, save through the thrill of battle. But he struggled to find even one person to connect to this way, and even then they turned away from him. Alisae pointed out that if he could not care for others, they would not care for him. Obvious to most, but Zenos is a complete sociopath, and human emotion is an enigma to him. He sought to cause despair and hatred because that would make the WoL fight harder, but it wasn't what he really wanted. What he WANTED was a connection with them. Alisae's words forced Zenos to consider that the petty, unimportant things other people pursued were not petty and unimportant to THEM, and that it didn't matter if HE valued or understood them. He had bid them find meaning in their lives themselves, yet had always dismissed that meaning they had found, and that blocked him from making the connection he craved. He was broken, irredeemable and vicious... but even he evolved a little in the course of the story.
The worst part about zenos... Is that he's right. We may not agree with his specific answer to the question for himself, but the conclusion that lead him there is 100% correct and in a way that's why he's so dangerous, he's the last person you'd want to have the freedom that comes with that understanding.
And yet, that's also why he's wrong. He has the answers and intelligence to reach them, but he lacks the heart for lack of a better term to understand it.
I don't have nearly as much to say about this section, so instead I'd just like to say it's been a pleasure to come along this ride so far and that seeing you cry may have been the closest I got to crying as well, which is a bleeding miracle mind you And, let us-no, no, I'm not making another Eldwalker pun, we've had too many by now
Nothing guts me quite as much as Urianger trying to venture that it was his fault Moenbryda died because he asked her for help ("No, more than that. T'was I who...") and her father cutting him off. This scene is his VA's finest hour in the game. Just realizing that that was what Urianger had been carrying around for the... well, let's not playing along with the time bubble, all the years since that happened - certainty that it was his fault she was dead.
Only now when i'm watching this, during the adamantite scene where everybody shows up, everybody that doesn't really play a main role is fucking ROCK SOLID, like they ain't breathing or moving LOL
Of all the theories I had about endwalker, I never thought they would make me cry about a character that died before Heavensward. Lol hit me like a truck
The evaccuation is such a hail mary that I just assume it's true ourpose was to give the world hope so they dont transform while the real plan is enacted
This makes PERFECT sense, and it never occurred to me! "Hey, the world is ending, and you have to defeat a cosmic horror at the end of the universe to survive." It would absolutely tip some people over the edge into blasphemies.
Anyone who can forgive Zenos or think this expansion 'redeemed' his character better frickin' respect Fourchenault by the end. I would bear the hate of the entire world if it meant saving the people I love.
To think the payoff for Moenbryda was nearly 10 years in the coming. I cannot think of any other game or other media that played that kind of long game.
1. the Urianger scene is definitely the hardest cry I had the entire game. An absolute masterpiece. No notes. 2. The Zenos scene to me almost feels like a fourth wall break calling out all the simps for supreme genocide-doer Emet-Selch. "Would you be happier had I a good reason?" No, no I would not. Though a sizable portion of the playerbase seems to disagree on whether Emet even counts as a villain, despite him being almost incalculably evil, just because his evil had a tragic backstory, as most evil does.
Someone being labeled a villain a lot of time mean some mustache twirling "I'm a big bad" type of character. It's hard to put Emet into that bucket. He is a villain but I think many prefer to just say he's an antagonist. Also understanding why someone is doing something makes it much harder to throw on labels and dislike. His character is easy to like, but what he does is still awful.
F in the chat for the people who do the "What do you mean EVERYONE?" scene and get the shorter versions. Or Alpha and Omega are missing from the crowd.
As much as i like Jullus he is a bit of a hypocrite here cause as long as it fit him he did go with all the atrocities the empire committed. Cause he thinks his reason was justified. I mean they were about to release the black rose and only zenos came to prevent that by killing his own father thus changing the future G'raha came from.
G'raha: "Good to see you back. How fared your journey to the First?"
WoL: "G'raha, remember how you left a working time machine on the First?"
G'raha: "...there are a lot of implications in that question, and I don't like any of them."
Love how you're not back from Elpis for even five minutes and Zenos goes and answers Hermes' question.

Good stuff brother.
*insert spiderman meme* it's you, but it's me!! But you can't be me? We have the same glam and are both lalafellian Popotos o.o
Last time we had a hug, it was Dulia’s backbreaker. Which one would you prefer?
Of all the theories I had about endwalker, I never thought they would make me cry about a character that died before Heavensward. Lol hit me like a truck
I swear, Urianger with Moenbryda's parents broke me ;n;
You said Mappingway has the cutest voice
Fun fact: It's the same VA of Livingway :D
The end draws nigh..
They don't call it "Feelswalker" for shiggles.
Alisaie: Zenos!
Zenos: ...
Alisaie: Bitch.
Venat has done far worse than Emet-Selch ever could, and is even more easily forgiven for her motives.
Or Alpha and Omega are missing from the crowd.
when he says I wish I knew why people like graha so much..... while he is graha.
i still think we need a stable path to the first.. introduce fourcheese to Dulia with a list of what he did to make my twins cry..
It (fire) wood.
One of the BETS MOMTERS in thsi game. Wonderfully scripted, voice acted. great great story
And thats not even worst part....just wait. :)
