Great video! Would you be willing to make a video about handshakes regarding other rules like „who should extend their hand first in different situations” etc.? In my opinion this could be very helpful for people too
In another video Jamila has mentioned that generally, let women decide whether they want to go for handshakes or not. I forgot in what video. But I am sure she mentioned this in one of her videos.
@@ditarezkiautami8753, yes -- the video with that instruction is called the 10 Most Common Etiquette Mistakes: ruclips.net/video/K46XoxenwLM/видео.html
Dear Jamila, this video was very informative and finally explained the etiquette of handshakes. I have, from a young age, had friends in Japan. In Japan a full bow or a head bow accompanied by a wai (hands in prayer position) is a usual greeting either amongst friend or when networking to make new contacts. The deeper the bow and higher the wai depends on the status of the person you are speaking to. My Thai teacher also told me it was a very similar way to greet in Thailand and we always greet each other in such a way at the start and end of each lesson. It is a good enough way to show respect and friendliness. I generally avoid those who prefer to shake hands especially as we are now in a pandemic era. Even so, it is good to see how the etiquette of handshakes works as it may be good to know should I ever need to break my own rule of avoiding handshakes. :-)
Thank you for taking a time and share your knowledge with us @Jamila Musayeva. It is indeed very informative video. I shake a lot of hands after closing a business/sale, I noticed when I give a firm handshake, eye to eye contact and genuine smile people tend to Trust me more. As always you are much appreciated Jamila, please do the second video. Thank you! Sending Peace and Blessings, Kahrmen.
Thank you so much Jamila! I also read once that you should shake hands with elderly people very gently because many of them have painful arthritis in their hands and even a firm grip can cause pain. Personally, I’m grateful that COVID convinced many people to stop shaking hands altogether: I have small, sensitive hands and always seemed to run into bone crushers 🥺. What I do now when meeting new people is to place my hand over my heart, introduce myself, and do a very slight micro-bow. It works so well, and sometimes people will even mirror that behavior back to me! I feel like people get the first impression that I’m warm, caring and pleased to meet them which was also my goal back pre-COVID when I was still shaking hands. The only thing I dislike more than bone crushers is the fist bumpers, in practice it might be more hygienic than a hand shake, but always feels like a fist bash 🤜
Eagerly waiting for the Part-2 of this video.. You explained all kinds of handshakes in great detail.. thank you for such an amazing video .. thank you Jamila .
Thanks for the useful tips. I really hope that you make part 2. I'm always timid when doing any kind of handshake so it's nice to know the rules to bring some confidence!
Oh no! I'm so guilty of looking at my hand when giving a handshake! Thank you, I'll work on that! :') Also, I never gave it much thought, but IT IS uncomfortable when people grab you closer during a handshake, specially when the othe person is an older man.
Hi Jamila, thank you for sharing that with us. Could you please tell me should the women always accept the handshake and how to avoid it, when wanted, decently? I read somewhere that the woman should initiate the handshake, never the man.
I would love to know if there is a proper way to avoid handshakes? I am unable to handshake right now because of a chronic pain reason but I often feel very awkward, and unsure if I should say something or what to do.
I would really appreciate if you can make the second video, for me, it's something quite interesting, both in a personally and socially way, how dominance is made in a handshake. I think you can always have a very precise perception of how someone is with a handshake
in india we simply put our hands together to greet other people. the problem of sweaty hands, aggressive pumps and encroaching personal space all are solved with a simple namaste :)
I would appreciate more Etiquette videos about work place. It's time to get back to office and educate ourselves about the right or wrong would be beneficial.
I always have to watch your videos more than once because your voice is so soothing and relaxing that it relaxes me too much. 😄 Ever considered doing an asmr video?
This was very useful and helpful, reminding me of very unpleasant moment of utter embarrassment - I was sure that rule of a thumb was that female should remain sitting while shaking hands with male only to be overwhelmed by a strong sense of shame, realizing that it didn't felt right. I was simply rude in attempt to be proper. To make things worse, I was also sure that it was female prerogative to decide if she wanted to initiate handshaking with a male if the age difference is not significant - otherwise, if a male is significantly older, it's his prerogative to initiate handshaking if he chooses to do so. Anyways, I'd love to hear your suggestions in regard, since the etiquette is evolving and rules have changed. Are we still keeping gloves on while handshaking (females)? Are we still taking sunglasses off while greeting/handshaking/talking to another person? I'd also appreciate if you'd be so kind to share your thoughts on introduction process in general - when we introduce ourselves to other person and when we introduce two or various persons to each other. I'm struggling with priorities in such situations (do I introduce older person to younger or vice versa) and Bridget Jones 2 scene of introduction of Perpetua to Mark Darcy comes to mind. :) Much appreciated! Stay safe. XO
