  • Two Russians ended up fleeing their country by boat to Alaska to avoid war mobilization. Maksim Teyunaut and Sergei Nechayev used to live in Chukotka, Russia, but sailed to the nearest Alaskan island of St. Lawrence as soon as officers arrived to mobilize them for Russia's war in Ukraine.

Got a lot of such Russian draft dodgers here in Serbia, Russians are generally discriminated against in the West so most of them go to countries like Turkey, Georgia, Serbia, even Mongolia, Kazakhstan... but I guess some of them end up in the west too. A russian draft dodger family opened a bakery close to my house, served awesome food, unfortunately closed after a few months. Then another Russian family opened a fast food place, spoke to their son there. He said during the September 2022 mobilization they wanted to send him like meat to Ukraine, and threatened to send his father, uncle, brother to the worst zones if he refuses, so they, collectively as a family decided that Russia is not a normal country and came here in Serbia. Even gave me some snack on the house, although a bit too crounchy/crispy for my taste haha. But let's not pretend Ukraine is also not mobilizing, it's terrible, they break all your fingers and beat your body until it is covered in bruises if you get caught and refuse, a few guys even got beaten to death in Kyiv, 650.000 eligible men fled Ukraine and many, many more bribe their way out or simply lock themselves in their apartments/houses, and for good reasons. Conscription is evil, noone deserves to lose their arms and legs, be tied to a wheelchair and bed for the rest of their lives and wear adult diapers so a handful of rich millionaries can profit off of their sacrifice, war is a huge scam. Let's not even mention PTSD which makes veterans commit suicide every day.
I just wonder, is this an old story from September 2022 mobilization or recent thing? Also, on a side note, why do so many people have broken phone screens...be careful now.

But right now we just have people illegally crossing the southern border and then claiming that they are seeking asylum when caught. its insane and is putting a massive strain on our social services and society. We can deal with a few hundred thousand illegal immigrants a year. But over a million each year? You can't have such massive numbers of people who contribute little in taxes and instead require money from the state to support them. Also with Korea and Vietnam, the US got involved in wars there and you could say that allowing in people seeking asylum from those countries was our responsibility. We do not have to do that with every country though, and you can't be called a refugee when you travel past multiple perfectly safe countries in order to get here.

I live in Helsinki, Finland, just few hundred kilometers from St. Petersburg. My office is close to the main railwaystation is Helsinki.
I remember the first months of the Russian attack war against Ukraine very well. There used to be a connection train from Helsinki to st. Petersburg, but as the Russians attacked Ukraine, Finland started closing all the connections to Russia. This led to absrud amounts of people fleeing from Russia to Helsinki through st. Petersburg. The people had as much luggage as they possibly could carry, looking like they'd never go back - atleast as long as the war is going on.
Every day, three to four loaded trains came, and then it stopped as our country closed the possibilty. I'd say just through the Helsinki railway station alone, there came over 100 000 people in the first months.
