I know theater people like "reinventing" things to appeal to new audiences. Sometimes it's better to let iconic works be iconic. Go to a museum and look at a Rembrandt. Should someone repaint it to make it more "relevant" for those who look at it today? Maybe appreciating it on its own terms as it was painted makes more sense. New for new's sake isn't necessary improvement it's just change. We live in an age when music education is nearly gone and classical music in public schools hasn't been around in a long time. What would the original composer and lyricist think? That should matter.
