- Working of Half Bridge Inverter With RL Load
Half Bridge Inverter is Voltage source inverter that converts DC into AC and the switches are closed for half period of time.
The operation of Half Bridge Inverter with R-L Load is divided into 4 modes of Operation
Mode 1 :
At t1 is S1 turned ON and S2 is OFF
Load voltage V0 = + VS /2
Due to same polarity of load voltage and load current , load stores energy
Load current I0 increases gradually due to inductive Load.
At t2 , I0 reaches peak value and S1 turned OFF
Mode 2 :
Due to inductive load the load current direction is maintained in the same direction as before, even after S1is turned OFF
The self induced voltage in the load will be negative
Load current will flow through lower half of the supply and D2
The stored energy in the load is fed back to the lower half of the source
Load voltage is clamped to V0 = - VS /2
Mode 3 :
At instant t3 the load current goes to zero indicating that the stored energy has been returned back to lower half of supply
At instant t3 ⇒ S2 is turned ON, this will produce a negative load voltage V0 = - VS /2
Load current is also negative.
Load current reaches a negative peak at the end of this interval.
Mode 4 :
At instant t4 ⇒ S2 is turned OFF
Self induced voltage across the load will maintain the load current
The load voltage changes its polarity to become positive
Load current remains negative and stored energy in the load is returned back to upper half of the dc source.
At t5 load current goes to zero and S1 can be turned ON again.
This cycle of operation repeats.

This helped a lot ma'am.
In mode 2 circuit both has equal voltage and opposite polarity,so how current flows,
Can you please draw the diode voltage waveform of this???
