***QUESTION OF THE DAY**** Help me name my new grain mill! It has to start with an "N"! I currently have Betsy Bosch and Wanda Wondermill. Let me know your thoughts below!
This is the mill I moved to after a few years of using the Kitchen Aid attachment. This is 1000% improvement. I can get the flour so fine it's nearly identical to store bought...except more nutritious. Best purchase ever! I was at a windmill grain mill and saw those gigantic stones they use so when I saw the stones in this mill, I was excited. I can make flour so fine with this mill it's suitable for pastries. Also, the speed at which you can go through the berries is wonderful. In less than 2 minutes I can mill almost 1,000 grams of flour. There is a issue with flour dust but I solved that by placing a tea towel over the spout and the bowl so we don't get dust everywhere.
Yes, the Mockmill has a cover and I can use it while grinding my grains which makes it slightly quieter. I like that. The Mockmill has numbers to tell you the coarseness and with both written (in the pamphlet) and video instructions (online) to show you how. It was easy. Also, the coarse/fine adjustment is a lever on the side and the entire bin is available for grain which means it hold a LOT of grain.
Suggestion.. on adjusting to finer grind. The grains that are in the hopper, are preventing you from turning the dial. Dump out the wheat into something. Tap the mill to remove any grains. Now, turn it to fine grind. Now add back the grains.
I actually have been able to adjust the stones while it's grinding, but it's certainly easier to do it before the grains are put in! I've learned where I like it to be :-)
If I understand correctly if the grind isn’t fine enough I can run it through again with the “stones” tighter together. Mine will arrive next week. Can not wait! Thanks for your review!
I got this mill a year ago and just tried it today. I didn't get very fine flour for my first time but did use it as 1/3 of my recipe. Bread is good and the leftover flour I made hot cereal! Will take some practice to get it better😊
I just bought a Nutrimill Harvest Grain Mill but haven't used it yet. I also plan to have chickens so I am happy to know I can grind my own feed if needed. I loved your demonstration and all your comments. After watching you I feel confident about using my new mill and look forward to using it to bake bread and baked goods. Thank you!
This has been so helpful. I’m trying to decide what I want my first grain mill to be and I think this is a good fit for my family. Hoping I can learn the knob since I am so new at baking.
I just found you today after throwing away yet ANOTHER loaf of bread that would not rise. I have given up on yeast breads for the most part and consume grain by way of quick-breads, pancakes, and such instead. I've been a baker of bread for 20 years but have not figured out how to make yeast bread from fresh ground flour, even after three years of milling grain. I watched your video of your basic loaf recipe and I cannot wait to try again! I subscribed and will be watching through the rest of your videos. I have a German Komo Mio mill and like it very much. Thanks again for the videos.
I was the same way. Took me several years to get the courage to try a full yeast loaf again lol Then I was determined to figure it out! Let me know how it goes ,and welcome!
You will love her simple bread recipe! I could not make a good loaf either til I found Felicias amazing bread. I make the white and red wheat and even cinnamon swirl from this. Everyone loves it!
Thank you for this. I have a Mockmill 100 (as you know, it's also a stone mill. As you may know, it, too, empties into a bowl. I LOVE it. I'd like to get another mill and Mockmill is currently out of stock everywhere, so maybe this will be it. You can't do anything that will have oil in it but if there's a problem with something coating the stone, I can take it apart and clean the stones (according to their directions) - which is nice. BUT having taken my Mockmill apart once this Nurimill appears much easier to take apart. That's nice. AND I didn't get any kind of brush...which I don't really 'need' but would be nice to have one solely for my mill. My Mockmill sounds very similar to this one. I'm impressed by this one, so far. I LOVE my bread using this and my Zojirushi bread maker. Amazing, light - yes, light - bread and so delicious.

I have the mockmill lino 200, I was going to get the professional, the guy said do you hav ea business.,No ,You do not need that one , so he suggested the one I got..so due to many surgeries ,i have nit used it yet had it for over a year now ,but should be similar to the nutri mill, so happy you are doing a review ,the more I can learn before I start the better...I have to dig it out and get it set up and ready to use ,I did go ahead and get the Bosch mixer thing for the bread dough ..I was thinking because I'm already getting arthritis so bad in my hands it would be a good idea...I would love to learn to make my own fresh grits ,I love grits with some cheese and butter
Thank you so much for this review and answering my many questions! Because of this video (and many others, but mainly this one, ) I bought the Nutrimill Harvest and got the mother's day affiliate sale and we love it!! It's so much quieter and way way way faster than the Kitchenaid mill attachment we were using. Thanks Felicia 👍
I ordered this mill Saturday and it's scheduled for delivery tomorrow or Friday. That being said, this video showing up in my feed was fortuitous. I'm anxious to start the process. I'm completely new to the whole grain thing so I can learn without having to relearn. I ordered wheat berries and they are scheduled for delivery Friday so everything will be here in time for the weekend. Hopefully, I can get my family involved in eating healthy grains made at home. I hope you do a video on grinding grits with this mill. That's not something I can get where I live but really came to appreciate when I lived in NC. It would be great to be able to make my own...especially since none of my family has ever had real grits. Thanks for your video, as always well done.
I would also add a caution for those searching for wheat berries . . . do NOT use seed wheat! It has often been harvested with chemicals, and then treated with chemicals to prevent insects, and you do not want those chemicals in your food!
Who told you that grain is harvested with chemicals? I grew up on a farm. We grew wheat every single year as did all the farmers around us. Here are a few things you may not know: 1) All wheat berries are 'seed wheat' unless irradiated (which destroys the wheat's ability to germinate) or sprouted and dried (it cannot germinate twice). 2) No one that I know of uses chemicals to harvest. I've never heard of such a thing and I would've since I grew up on a farm and my father grew wheat as did all the farmers around us. Chemical use would be way too expensive and unnecessary. Wheat is easily removed from the stalk simply by rubbing it between your hands. Harvesting is done via a combine which **mechanically** separates the grain from the stalk. It does not use chemicals. Chemicals touching the grain when harvesting would affect the moisture content of the wheat which is tested when delivered it to the coop to get paid for the grain. The truck is weighed full and then empty and a sample of the wheat is gathered from the truck after it is weighed in a special tube and is tested while the farmer is dumping the wheat. The weight of the grain and the moisture both make a difference in what the farmer is paid. If the grain has too much moisture it will mold in storage more easily so, the price of the grain is negatively affected by additional moisture. That said, there are some food stuffs, like Almonds, that are 'pasteurized' with chemicals - actually a type of gasoline in gaseous form. Not all almonds are done this way but many are including the brand Costco uses. (So there is that.) Hope this helps!
Natty Nutrimill. I have the Mockmill stone grinder that fit's Kitchenaid Stand Mixers. It makes great bread flour, and I like that the coursness of the grind is adjustable. Have fun with your new grinder.
My kitchen aid mixer went to mixer land in the sky today. I ordered a Bosch from the attached link on your website. I hope u get some type of credit for it 💕🥰. Keep the great videos coming... I love them all
You can get parts for your Kitchenaid to repair it. I just put new brushes, and a new speed control switch in my 50 year old K5-A 5 qt. lift bowl mixer. I changed out the internal gear grease also. Congrats on your new Bosch purchase. What model is your Kitchenaid?, and what isn't it doing?.
@@chevyguy6961 thank u for telling me this💕. Unfortunately I am not a small appliance kind of repair person and honestly Felicia has made me drool over her Bosch. So when my motor smoked and quit while kneading whole wheat bread I happily said goodby and grabbed the opportunity to purchase the Bosch 😁. Glad you restored your kitchen aid as I'm sure you are old friends by now💕
Lily's white flour for those of us who cannot afford a mill right now is a great choice. In honor of that company's effort to help us I thought a nice name for your nutrimill would be Lily.
Great review and I have looked at this myself. The only thing that disappoints me is that it can't be a manual mill. I want a manual mill that can be used in a grid down situation. I dont think there is anything on the market, $300 or less, that I can get, if you have suggestions in this regard, I'm all about hearing that. BTW: Saying this in all l9ve - it doesn't need to be cute, just sturdy and needs to work 🤣. Thanks for this video, it was extremely informative 👍 Blessings to all! 🥰
Thanks for making up my mind. I'm a truck driver and the compact size and lack of dust that will be getting inside my truck were the deciding factors. One question, will this grind flour fine enough to make cakes?
Okay, so I am a year late but I just found you. Haven't even seen you use this mill I'm so new. And what did you name your girl there. IF I would have been on time, I would have said "Nana," because she looks old fashioned and is the traditional stone mill from back in the day. I say this as a term of endearment of course. 😊
If you had to name the easiest and best mill for someone who has the money but only wants to buy one mill which would you suggest? Also the best place to buy grains and corn. Thank you
Got you covered! How to choose a mill: ruclips.net/video/oM6k-htoP88/видео.html And best places to get grains: ruclips.net/video/dcM2BL8tjaM/видео.html
Hi, Do it matter if the wheat gets too warm while milling if you plan to use all of it at that moment? I'm trying to understand why warming up the wheat too much is so critical if its going right into the oven. Thanks and I like your video
Well you don't want the grains to get too hot when milling because it starts cooking nutrients out. However, mills made today make sure they're not getting too heated to start doing that.
Oh I’m so glad you have one because that’s what I have and I’m still having trouble getting my bread right so now you can help me decide if maybe I’m not getting my flour fine enough.
I have a mockmill. It grinds pretty fine. But if I want the typical kind of bread that I am used to making, I have to sift with the finest mesh that I can. I have size 60 mesh sifters.
@@GrainsandGrit I have yet to make a loaf I would call sandwich worthy. It’s either so dry or crumbly or dense, and the last two times I’ve had a gritty texture even after I expected all my grain beforehand making sure nothing foreign was in it. I called nutrimill and asked if I could be getting some of the stone from the mill into my flour but they say that’s not likely.
I use organic dried white corn I buy from Azure Standard. But you can use another type of corn if you like, so long as it's dried! This is what I order: bit.ly/3dyqrsP
I think if you keep it Nanci (cuter if spelled with an "i", though). Although it might be fun to use more elaborate names, the 2-syllable name is catchy - it also seems to go with the other names you've got going on with your appliances. What do you think? Secondly: I use the Mockmill 100. It has a cover for the hopper.
Do you still like it? I ordered one which will arrive in couple of days but then took my time and read lots of reviews and now regretting already that I rushed and ordered it. I ordered mockmill100 first but since it wasn’t gonna be shipped till end of May I had to cancel cause I need it sooner.
I do still like it actually. I use it exclusively. The ONLY thing I have to "complain" about is it's not as fast as my Wondermill mill. But since the Wondermill is an impact mill that is to be expected. I honestly don't have any complaints about the Nutrimill Harvest and I use her A LOT!
You did a great job reviewing this mill. I have the Country Living which is quite large and was thinking of a smaller one that can sit on the counter for quick one or two loafs. I did not know until this review that they both won't grind grits and that is important to me. Thanks for doing this for us!!!
I was super excited to do a full review like this! I know it can be hard to know exactly what a mill can do without someone telling you. And just to clarify, the Nutrimill Harvest SHOULD be able to do grits because of the ability to choose how course or fine the grain is. Now I just have to figure out how to do grits from the whole corn kernel ha
QUESTIONS: How fast does it mill fine flour enough for a batch for your bread 🍞 loaf? And does the flour get hot after using it for a while? And does it make very fine flour? Also, is it quiet?
I can mill all the flour I need in about 2-3 minutes (i have never timed it so it may be less). No the flour doesn't get super hot. And yes, it makes fine flour for my loaves just fine. I have used this mill for cookies, biscuits, muffins, pancakes, and bread no problem!
@@micahlantz905 Glad to help!! :-) I know picking out a grain mill is such a big decision! But whether you go with an impact mill or stone mill like the Mockmill, Harvest, or Komo - you're going to get a great grain mill.
I saw it on your counter in a video and was like someone got a new toy and didnt share lol.. i have nutrimill classic but just got myself a new mockmill 100 and love it!
@@megangurwell364 yes I do want to get my hands on a Mockmill! I have a friend who has one and has offered to let me borrow it for a review :-) Haven't done it yet, but I am hoping to!
Hello! My aunt and uncle are looking into getting a mill. This one looks great but it concerns me that the flour isn't that fine with it. Will it make the nice light and fluffy bread or is it too corse of grains? My whisper mill makes very fine wonderful flour. But the kitchen aid mill I had to run the wheat through twice in order to get it fine enough. So is this nutrimill similar to the kitchen aid in that it needs to be milled twice?
I use this on a near daily basis. I also have the Wondermill (same as Whispermill) so I can definitely compare. I can get fine flour sending the wheat berries through the first time just like my Wondermill HOWEVER you do need to adjust it to make it that way. But good news, you can adjust the stones while it’s grinding to find the consistency you want. My bread hasn’t changed at all switching mills. I can still get fluffy soft bread 😄
@@GrainsandGrit At Thanksgiving, I made your bread recipe that you shared and people loved it so much. My Uncle might now get my Aunt a mill for Christmas! What is the best recipe book for them to get started?
@@LoveofHoliness Oh that's great! And there isn't really any one cookbook I can recommend. I know Sue Becker with BreadBeckers has her book and their red cookbook that I first used getting started, but I don't like every single recipe in it.
I have been using this mill exclusively since I got it and I have been able to grind fine flour for my bread. My bread never even changed when I switched from my Wondermill. You just have to learn where the stones need to be to make it fine.
I just unpacked mine and the control that changes the grind size will not move - so I can not adjust grind. Rice just goes through and comes out whole grain again. any suggestions??? Ive sent email to company but as its Sunday I haven't had a response.
hmmmm I never had any issues moving the control. Definitely contact the company and see what they say. It shouldn't be difficult to move! Let me know what they say!
I am, but there are some things I miss that my Wondermill has. I will be doing a video very soon about how to choose a grain mill and talking about the key differences between them 😄
I tried to grind wheat with my vitamix. Just not happy with the outcome. It’s very course and gets too warm. I want to purchase either the nutrimill classic or nutrimill harvest. Please help me decide! Lol
I really like it. Much better than a Ninja and hand cranked mill. I've made pancakes and just finishes banana bread. I'm a little intimidated. I don't want to crank it to tight and mess it up. I do get a hot smell coming from it sometimes and I just back it off a little. Am I doing something wrong?
So you didn't even say whether it produces super fine flour.... I watched it all the way through just to see if it does. Does it produce super fine flour?
I have used this for bread and cookies and the flour is perfectly fine for those. I do think the Wondermill impact mill makes slightly finer flour but not by much. This will still make flour fine enough for your needs! I have also realized that certain flour just mills finer than others (for example, soft white wheat mills finer than hard red wheat).
@@micahlantz905 When you first turn on the mill it is VERY quiet. But it does get loud when you start to mill although I would say it is slightly quieter than an impact mill. It is not as high pitch of a sound as the impact mill is. As far as speed, it is faster than a KA attachment, but not as fast as my impact mill. Still a good speed and I can have all the flour for 3 large 2lbs of bread milled in about 2-3 minutes. :-) Maybe less - i have never timed it.
The video isn’t a sponsored video, but the grain mill was sent to me by the company. According to RUclips, that falls under the “video contains paid promotion” label.
You can mill dried beans, but I have never tried garbanzo beans before. I know they are rather large. I have milled whole corn, red beans, great northern beans, lentils just fine!
@@GrainsandGrit , Thank you for replying, I have other question. What are the right wheat berries l need to cook fine pastries and cakes? .I see so many options in Amazon, I'm considering on getting a grain mill too 😀

If you had to name the easiest and best mill for someone who has the money but only wants to buy one mill which would you suggest? Also the best place to buy grains and corn. Thank you

@@GrainsandGrit yay thanks
I instantly thought Nancy, but Nellie would be cute, too! 😊 Also, your review convinced me to get this one! 😁
I still use it almost daily a year later! And her name is Nancy 😀
It may be, but it may also be other things. What's going on with your bread?
I have a mockmill. It grinds pretty fine. But if I want the typical kind of bread that I am used to making, I have to sift with the finest mesh that I can. I have size 60 mesh sifters.
@@GrainsandGrit I have yet to make a loaf I would call sandwich worthy. It’s either so dry or crumbly or dense, and the last two times I’ve had a gritty texture even after I expected all my grain beforehand making sure nothing foreign was in it. I called nutrimill and asked if I could be getting some of the stone from the mill into my flour but they say that’s not likely.
@@kimbrooks1491 Hmmm, what recipe are you using?
@@artsymamanana Weird, my bread has been perfectly fine. You'd never know I changed mills.
Do you have an area that you can place the mill on a higher surface to be able to use a deeper bowl or bucket or flat sided plastic container?
That's a good idea!
Great video! Thanks a lot for helping me decide as to which mill to purchase.
Glad this was helpful!
Glad I came back to watch the whole video thanks
So amazing
To clarify this one does not make flour ? Only cracked grains ?
It makes fine flour all the way to cracked grains and everything in between.
@@GrainsandGrit no kidding!!
A must have THANKS
I just bought the nutramill harvest. What kind of corn can you mill in it to make cornmeal? I know it can't be a corn that has moisture in it.
I use organic dried white corn I buy from Azure Standard. But you can use another type of corn if you like, so long as it's dried! This is what I order: bit.ly/3dyqrsP
I put the fresh flours sticker on my nutrimill - it looks adorable on there.
I definitely like the Nancy name for her. Or Fancy Nancy as in the kids books.
Thanks, Grace! I'm still trying to figure out a name although it does look like most people are going for Nancy or Nellie!
@@GrainsandGrit I think you do a draw if you can't decide in the end. We'll watch you pull her name out of a paper bag. It'll be a *thing... 😆
Are you concerned about grit from the stones over time? Thanks, enjoy your channel
No I am not. You can just run white rice through them to help clean it out.
I have done sprouted grains in mine, but I purchased mine and they were completely dry and hard, just like regular wheat berries.
@@GrainsandGrit awesome! I just received mine yesterday! It came with the smart canister, bamboo board and a scale for $329
@@LeOlamVaed ooo you took advantage of the sale! Great job!
Nan is a great mill name.
@@GrainsandGrit I forgot Nellie or Nettie. I love I'm not the only one who names things LOL
@@GrainsandGrit that answers that perfectly and thoroughly! Thank you so much
@@micahlantz905 Glad to help!! :-) I know picking out a grain mill is such a big decision! But whether you go with an impact mill or stone mill like the Mockmill, Harvest, or Komo - you're going to get a great grain mill.
I bought this model but I can't get my flour fine enough am using hard red berries. Are you happy with the grind. Any suggestions?
I am. I find that turning it until the stones just start to squeak is a good fine ground. It’s about the 7:00 position 😄
How much does it cost?
You'll have to check the website for current pricing. Link is in description.
I saw it on your counter in a video and was like someone got a new toy and didnt share lol.. i have nutrimill classic but just got myself a new mockmill 100 and love it!
lol I was just waiting a bit longer to share! My friend has a mockmill 100 and I have thought about asking to borrow it for a review!
@@GrainsandGrit hello...I am debating on the Nutrimill Harvest and the Mockmill 100. Would love to see a comparison on that!
@@GrainsandGrit
That is so great to hear!

At Thanksgiving, I made your bread recipe that you shared and people loved it so much.
@@GrainsandGrit
I ordered that red one, hopefully it arrives soon!
Any tips of recipes to avoid in it?
Most of the purchaser reviews report that this machine doesn’t grind the flour fine. Seems like the stones need a great deal of polishing.
Ive sent email to company but as its Sunday I haven't
had a response.
hmmmm I never had any issues moving the control. Definitely contact the company and see what they say. It shouldn't be difficult to move!
Let me know what they say!

Are you still loving this mill? We need an update video.
I am, but there are some things I miss that my Wondermill has. I will be doing a video very soon about how to choose a grain mill and talking about the key differences between them 😄
@@GrainsandGrit it’s the one I have (I commented below when you first posted this) but I wonder if it mills as fine as others.
I tried to grind wheat with my vitamix. Just not happy with the outcome. It’s very course and gets too warm. I want to purchase either the nutrimill classic or nutrimill harvest. Please help me decide! Lol
Definitely the Nutrimill Harvest. I really like the fact you can grind fine flour to cracked grains. Plus I think the Nutrimill Harvest is prettier 😄
@@GrainsandGrit it is definitely prettier! Just wasn’t sure if you were loving it or not.
Get a 60 mesh sifter.
I have a nutrimill classic and from seeing this review I would go with the Harvest!
@@artsymamanana what for?
Have you checked to see the price
I love mine.
Why do people worry about grains being heated up during the grinding process, baking uses way higher temperature 🤔
True!
I bit the bullet and bought one today.
YAY!! Let us know what you think of it!
So does it grin corn but not pop corn? .....what's the difference?
Grind not grin
It will do both. I just always do regular corn since I always have it on hand 😄

@@GrainsandGrit thanks for the input! Another question. How fast does it mill flour for your loaf of bread? And is it very quiet?
@@micahlantz905 When you first turn on the mill it is VERY quiet. But it does get loud when you start to mill although I would say it is slightly quieter than an impact mill. It is not as high pitch of a sound as the impact mill is.
As far as speed, it is faster than a KA attachment, but not as fast as my impact mill. Still a good speed and I can have all the flour for 3 large 2lbs of bread milled in about 2-3 minutes. :-) Maybe less - i have never timed it.
New Nettie.
I've actually named her Nancy! It just seemed fitting :-)

Can you grind garbanzos?
You can mill dried beans, but I have never tried garbanzo beans before. I know they are rather large. I have milled whole corn, red beans, great northern beans, lentils just fine!
