Matthieu, you should make more short films and documentaries. This was great!
Wow Michael this is making me so happy, i was scared people would dislike this video because it's not just photos of a pretty girl.
@@MathieuStern most people don't know what they might like.. conservatism is only good for survival, we wouldn't be watching this if van Gogh painted for the masses.. great work! Thanks for making this!
Agreed
Mathieu, it's so sweet of you to reach out to find a correct pronunciation by Dutch natives
Thanks! 😃 I hate when people don't respect other people culture so i had to make an effort
Yes, and now we have no excuse not to pronounce Van Gogh's name as he and everyone around him said it.
@@MathieuStern this video being both informative about the lens and a tribute to van gogh shows such kindness and respect :) thank you so much for this, Mathieu.
@@MathieuStern honestly pretty surprised how close my native british pronunciation is to the correct Dutch one, thought we'd be further off honestly.

I'm sorry so I've been butchering the word for years! Brilliant video Mathieu!. This lens is a gem, I was happy to get a mint copy pretty much, I don't use it often, but every time I do, I'm reminded why I still love it so much! This just gave it a bit more context!
Thank you so much for participating, I hope you will still enjoy maple syrup after this !
@@MathieuStern Thanks for having me on! I was hanging off ceilings after that.
The dutch will never forgive you, we're a very grudgy bunch, ya know!
One of your best videos to date. Locations, research, music, voice over... The subject is also very dear to my heart and it moved me a lot. Thank you for this. Pure poetry.
So nice of you Aris
This was not emotionally pushy in any way, but found it quite moving and it brought a tear to my eye. I applaud you for using thoughts to bring about emotion and not manipulation.
The addition of the pronunciation clips was charming! Nice video. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you liked it! I was hoping it would help
@@MathieuStern, I went to art school and my professors and my classmates, we all pronounced his name the way that Mark Holtze does in the video (because I am also Canadian). I nearly died from delight when I came across this lens on sale from a local seller who sold it to me for cheap. I love it. I enjoy seeing other photographers' work taken with this lens - and watching their RUclips videos. It is a fun lens!
I clicked thinking I’d learn about a vintage fisheye lens to satisfy my photography gearhead. Instead I learned a world of new things. As a photographer and an artist by profession, I found this very beautiful. Thank you Mathieu.
Very cool! I Will make more content like this
Very cool project 👍
Wow thanks !! it means a lot coming from you
Didn't expect Thiojoe to be here :3
Thio!
“Loving Vincent” is one of my favorite films of all time
Lens is impressive but I really liked the story telling more.
Everything about this video is ART!
Mathieu, this was fabulous! I was not expecting this level of depth on a short video, thank you!!!
I’m Dutch (family name Vander Meiden) born in America, and though I knew Van Gogh was Dutch, meaning ‘from/of Gogh’ (for Goch; a town in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, near the border of Siebengewald, Netherlands) because I do not speak Dutch I did not know the correct pronunciation of his last name until this video! (I was schooled by my own people!). It was a great video! Thank you!
This is your best video so far. Loved the lens and the storytelling. Am a Dutch photographer with a love for Vincent's art and have over a 100 different books about him. This video was a worthy tribute and I'd love to visit the village some day when the world is back to normal. Love from the Netherlands!
Mathieu, this was wonderful, a double feature of lens and art history, plus the secret to Van Gogh's pronunciation. Loved the shots you got, fascinating lens. Top quality video, thank you so much!
My pleasure!
This is delightful, Mathieu! Thank you for all of the time and effort that go into your videos. ...more please!
More to come!
What a fitting tribute 👏 Amazing work!
Thank you so much 😀
I love vincent & his painting and especially his hand drawn biography the loving vincent is truly an artwork of century.
Ah...punaise...suis venue pour l'objectif....suis reste pour l'histoire!! Nice video as always Matthieu!! Thanks!
Merci Nuno
Wow, thank you for taking us with you on your journey. This was beautifully done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Not to mention the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam and the Kröller-Müller Museum in the Veluwe, both in The Netherlands. The latter has the advantage of being situated in a 1000 km² national park with stunning landscape photography opportunities.
Mathieu, your channel is interesting, captivating, and a joy to watch.
Quite a lovely honoring of VVG. He did paint a rather flat-colored world with vivid color. Was it the way he saw the world, or was it the world he wanted it to be?
Encore une très belle vidéo !
Le filtre jaune fait aussi beaucoup penser aux films de Jean-Pierre Jeunet...
I´m always looking forward to your videos. But this is absolutely the best so far.
Wow! Thank you for creating such a captivating video.
Love that you included the ‘correct’ pronunciation of his name. I’ve always wondered about that, seems like everybody has there own interpretation of how to say it
Names translate that's why
This video is a piece of art itself
Amazing video, handy lens, it was nice to see the original places of his paintings. Thank you, and keep up the good work!
Brilliant! I love the approach in showcasing this special, well crafted, vintage lens.clap👏
Beautiful!
Absolutely amazing stuff, Mathieu. Makes me reach for the modern-day successor of this lens, the also pretty magical Pentax DA 10-17 mm Fish-eye zoom. Gotta love the way you linked van Gogh's and the Takumar's views of the world.
Awesome. I really love your videos, but I believe this one is the best. The plot, the pronunciation, the landscapes, the theme... exceptional work. Thank you very much. An inspiration...
What a great video Mathieu!
Never knew my takumar fisheye was the legendary Van Gogh Lens all along.😶
Glad I bought one before people noticed it's true value.👌
I actually have one of these in my collection - never new about the gelatin filter holder!
Beautiful... just absolutely beautiful.
So much more than a lens review. I wish all lens reviews were like this.
Cartier-Bresson said “sharpness is bourgeois concept”, and I believe this lens review shows up so many others around, depicting how a lens can do so much more (though it is sharp), like elicit a feeling, a memory and more.
Please keep this kind of thing up Mathieu!
Loved the connection between lens, feeling, artist and place. Absolutely beautiful!
thank you so much , thats what I want to produce more, reviews that are more than just a review.
This is a very beautiful video. Also, visiting those places for this video shows a really admirable level of dedication.
Wow, this is a lovely video of one of my favourite artists. Thank you Sir Mathieu.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wonderful video! Professional, well timed, informative, entertaining. I have known Vincent Van Gogh's art for many years and have seen documentaries and movies about him, but in just eight minutes you changed my appreciation for his art to much positive.
Wow, what a beautiful video! And the music was just perfect for the mood as well. Poetic!
Thank you very much!
Really interesting video, Mathieu! Loved it.
Glad to hear that!
Bravo, encore une très belle vidéo !
Merci
Excellent video! Neat lens and wonderful history. Poor Vincent.

What a great IDEA! 3:56 I love free, long-lasting stuff! I'm on my way to make one of these gorgeous sandals on the southern side of my residential place!
man your videos are so so good
Really enjoyed this one. Well done.
You really took the effort deserves a 👍🏻
What an incredible video! I feel like 8 minutes is to short I could watch a documentary of you taking pictures of these locations especially with such an interesting lens
This was beautiful

As usual, another great video, Mathieu! Interesting!

hey! Great project! thanks 🙏. do we have alternative lens cap ideas? or maybe custom 3d filter thread for this amazing lens?
Taking the time to pronounce Van Gogh correctly, that's an automatic like for me! Plus brilliant video as well 👍
Very well put together Mathieu !
A nice idea that turned out very well.
Many thanks!
Really love love your style of video and editing. Superb
Thanks a ton!
I loved the narration!
An absolutely gorgeous video like always. This lens with yellow/orange reminds me of those Mexico in American movies memes.
Another masterpiece
Shared the video, it deserves to be seen by everyone who likes painting and photography it's beautiful
I applaud you for putting in the part on how to pronounce van Gogh's name correctly. Love your mini-docs! 👏

So ALL your videos become interesting !!!
Wow, thank you, thats a really nice compliment
I love this. Thank you for sharing this
Glad you enjoyed it!
I like the format
I had never heard the theory that he was murdered. His story is so heartbreaking. I loved seeing the actual locations in this video. Hopefully I'll see them in person someday. :)
Delicious. Thank you very much.
I love is as a documentary episode of Van Gogh, vey well done
Fantastic video.
This was very interesting and immersive!
Amazing!
Thank you! Cheers!
Mathieu has to be one of the most original creators on youtube with a unique style
Another cracking video thanks Mathieu. I am Welsh so I now know the real pronunciation of Vincent Van Gogh. The gh is pronounced the same as in the Welsh word "Chwarae" for example, it means play in English, if you were to google the word, you would know, thanks again, it was very enlightening.
Your dedication is another level...i love it, we love it, art & history, passion, bravo from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Wow ! thats amazing
A masterpiece
You should make more documentaries.
This video was very deep and perfectly described. Thanks for this.
Thank you, I will
Wonderful storytelling, my friend! 👍
Beautiful work! Congrats!

What a wonderful video. Fish eye is almost always with me.
Ein super Video. Vielen Dank. I love ist😀❤️
What a sad story of Vincent van Gogh... What a beautiful retrospektive in this lens review. Love it
Great video, needs more views
Although I have the same lens for over 25 years now I didn't know of the gelatine filter holder. Thanks for the info! Great video by the way!
I love the unique flares!
Excellent 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌, want more like these
I will try my best
Wow, those light rays are amazing! And yes the film starring Willem Dafoe is beautiful and gut-wrenchingly sad.
