Anyone else love the fact that Dan Willson (Withered Hand) is his badminton opponent and Kenny Anderson (King Creosote) is one of the evil judges? Just picking my jaw up from the floor after realising this! 😱😍
You know that feeling when you find an artist and become obsessed with all of their works and that’s all you listen to for the near future? Yep. It’s that feeling again, can’t wait for the new album Hamish!
Sure 6music is kinda cool, and it’s great they give this adequate airplay but, I have been aware of Hamish Hawk for over a year thanks to my own good taste (and the RUclips algorithm)…
Perhaps the greatest song of the last few decades. Saw Hamish in Sheffield recently which only backed this up., Magnificent! And the video bears repeated viewings too
You could use this song as a tool to teach people the art of songwriting. It has many expertly delivered devices in four minutes and keeps the listener's ear glued to every subtlety. Smart.
Discovered him today on Spotify. I'am realy overwhelmed. What a joy to my ears and brings me right back to the great nineties of Morrisey/The Smiths, Pulp, The Veils and other great music. An hour before a friend asked me what my favorite albums were so far this year. None came up in my mind. This year sucks., i was thinking. couldn't find one. Ghehe god is realy existing...isn't?
Heard it yesterday on the radio for the first time and have listened to nothing since. Love it. Brill. Goosebumps every time. Ordered the LP. Hope to see you in Edinburgh!
I saw Hamish a couple of times on Idlewild's last tour. I remember this song being played but I couldn't find it anywhere afterwards. Cool to hear it again now! Just noticed Rod from Idlewild in the video, heh.
Why is this guy not a superstar??? I'm an auld 80's/90's indie guy. Hamish is different level. I adore what he does. Got to see him live recently, it was an utter joy. Danced all night. God bless you Hamish. please keep doing what you do.
It's thanks to local radio station Wave 105 and d- jay Steve Power for discovering Hamish Hawk and playing his new single . I loved Neil Hannon with Divine Comedy . Going to pre- order Hamish Hawks ...great name by the way album ,the first of many I hope.
Was recommended this song by an episode of Cracking The Cryptic, and Simon is absolutely right; this song is an earworm and a banger. What a voice! My god I'll have to check out all of your other works. If anyone's curious, it was Cracking the Cryptic's episode "Find a Friend in the Sudoku Fog"
I've been playing Hamish's music this last year in Vancouver BC Canada on My Radio Bandcouver show at Co-op Radio. Will give this charming tune a spin this week. BBC 6's Marc Riley introduced me to his finely crafted music. Cheers.
Visiting St Paul's as an adult is one of.. I think, the most amazing moments of my life. The view from the top and the precarious climb along a wooden walkway up to a gallery and then up and up a stone stairs and through a rickety, high, wrought iron ladder, with bolt holes through the holly walls seen with a eye you can view and see down below, one at a time. The view is parallel with the London Eye and for less money, and the tranquillity below the dome and the Murmur of conversion and relaxation and imagination and eyes open wide and listening.
Another fantastic track from the forthcoming album “Heavy Elevator” (out 17th September folks. Get it bloody pre-ordered radges!) Can’t wait for it. Got tickets for Hidden Door and McChuills in November (Intimate venue! Ya dancer!). Gutted to have missed out on the Summerhall gig, but will be pestering them for any returns. Bit late to the party but f*****g love Hamish’s music after hearing “…..Tiree” on Radio6. Gaun yerself Hamish!
Hamish, I have just heard this on Radio 6 and it has floored me! My parents are Mauritian by birth, with an even greater mixed ancestry. Never in my 48 years did I think I would encounter a song with this content - and title. Cannot wait to play it to my wife. Currently, I am thinking of my dear late Uncle who had similar international sporting success, also representing Mauritius! Thanks.
Ditto - well the bit about 6music anyway and it’s been bugging me since what it reminded me of - The Killers with Neil Hannon On lyrics/vocals maybe…. Great in any case.
Hello!! I too am also of Mauritian heritage and came across this! It’s a wonderful song for our heritage to be recognised in, and my husband is Scottish too and is a little hamish hawk like too which sweetens the deal even more haha
Is that Kenny Anderson as one of the judges? I digress, this song hell the whole album is just an astounding piece of work. I didn’t think I’d ever feel that teenage level of fandom/love for an artist ever again. Thank you Mr Hawk for rekindling a small fire in my coal black heart. X
When everyone turns of for the shoot and you realise you have a badminton net but no stands for it, but luckily the gaffer has a couple extra light stands. :)
Lovvvvvve this song. Suuuuch a beautiful voice. Sounds like if Alex Kapranos sang a Morrissey / Divine Comedy song. Musicians love comparisons, right? ;)
I owe Spotify my life for putting this on my discover weekly

Shout out to the sudoku crowd
Yep, here after the Simon shoutout :)
You know that feeling when you find an artist and become obsessed with all of their works and that’s all you listen to for the near future? Yep. It’s that feeling again, can’t wait for the new album Hamish!
I second that emotion! Brilliant lyrics, lovely tunes - what's not to like?!
I have that same feeling. He's pretty brilliant!
@Ben Chesher
You're right! Just heard these on Radio 6 about 5.14am this morning.
Loved it! Now caan't wait for the album.
I too am obsessed
Same. Actually obsessed!
Cracking song, reminds me of Neil Hannon and The Divine Comedy (who I loved) 👍
I was convinced it was the DC when I first heard this a few weeks ago on 6 music.
I thought the same. There is something Morrisey-esque too.
I thought the same after about 2 notes!
Echoes of early Morrisey & Yann Tierson.
Have a listen to Father John Misty Q4.
Probably my song of the year. Utter joy
Future classic.
Without 6 Music i doubt i would have heard this masterpiece
Myself also. I mean Radio 2's obsession with excessive playing of Ed bleedin' Sheeran is starting to get annoying.
Gotta love 6Music!
Sure 6music is kinda cool, and it’s great they give this adequate airplay but, I have been aware of Hamish Hawk for over a year thanks to my own good taste (and the RUclips algorithm)…
@@stewarttaggart7764 hahaha tell me how I can be more like you Stewie, you're clearly a cut above. Praise be the RUclips algorithm
@@Bazzla737We should all strive to be "MLS" (More Like Stewie) 👍 😊
Fantastic once again from a seriously underrated singer
A man on a train told me about this artist…. thank you 🙏 Hope you won at the races that day 🏇
Perhaps the greatest song of the last few decades. Saw Hamish in Sheffield recently which only backed this up., Magnificent! And the video bears repeated viewings too
I was sold on the title and then I was sold on the song. Nice.
Ha! all I googled was a harrier hawk! And typo sent me here . And this is a really good tune!
I was in London last week and was singing this in St Pauls Cathedral. My Daughter said what is that song you keep singing?Love it.
Gloriously, unashamedly Scottish. Love HH.
Imagine having a name as cool as Hamish Hawk
That's not his real name, it's Niles Crane
A winner. Fantastic song. By every listen it gets better and better. Thanks Hamish.
Seen Hamish hawk at the proclaimers gig last night got to say I hadn’t heard them before but now I am obsessed amazing band live
When I first heard this I would have bet a lot of money it was the wonderful Divine Comedy. It obviously isn't but it is still wonderful!!!!!
literally obsessed with the album now. Mercury prize for me
Chris Hawkins played this on 6Music during my drive to work on Thursday. It's beautiful.
Anne Frankenstein played it abOut 5.25AM about a week or so ago.
Smashing at that time in the morning.

I did just yesterday...had exact same thought process and experience :-)
That feeling at St. Paul’s… the immensity, and that it was finished in his life. Yeah, Hamish… nailed it.
What a great tune. The fact that King Creosote is in the vid just makes it perfect. Now engaging in a HH exploration.
...at and Withered Hand too🏸
Thank God for 6 music otherwise where else would I have heard this, has me in tears with emotions..BRILLIANT
Just heard Catherine opens a Window..Beautiful
Gotta love 6Music!
I did a tour to St Andrew's and and some fishing villages in Fife, Scotland.. the tour guide was Hamish's dad and he played his son's songs
Heard Hamish on Radcliffe and Maconie on 6 Music on Saturday, had never heard of him before. Haven't stopped listening since.
When he sang the “Glaswegian chapel” line at St Luke’s the other night it was absolutely JOYOUS.
Here from a recommendation from Cracking The Cryptic.
🙂
Utterly in love with this fantastic song
King Creosote commentary? Nice!!
i came here from cracking the cryptic ("find a friend in the sudoku fog")
same! I understand why Simon had this song stuck in his head
Heard it yesterday on the radio for the first time and have listened to nothing since. Love it. Brill. Goosebumps every time. Ordered the LP. Hope to see you in Edinburgh!

Like an intoxicating mix of Neil Hannon, Jarvis Cocker, and Billy MacKenzie!!

Definitely a cross between Morrisey and Pulp? 🎉

One of the best records of this year and listened just 3:)
I own one copy but it is still in his store

Radcliffe & Maconie brought Hamish Hawk and this song to me. Superb!
Jim, dear, it's living the dream.
Glorious. Best song for years
Insane bit of songwriting! Thank you!

I saw the Smiths reference!
Truly great songwriting. This is the high nbar and not enough people know it's there.

A huge thank you to big old Pete for sending me here, what a great song, put a big smile on my face.👍😎🎸
Absolute banger.
This song is like a melodic Wes Anderson film
Awesome new song Hamish. Will be keen to see you perform again soon
Good work at Rockaway Beach Mr Hawk 👍
Goddamn, I like this. Went and listened to the album and loved it within the first few bars.

This is the best pop song written in this decade by a country mile. He has bottled lightning with this one.
Bakerloo, Unbecoming comes close in my opinion. Two truly great songs
Agreed
Yup. Damn right.@@Thiagoo662
That last ten views was just me again, cheers.
Great song, great album.
I'm definitely pre-ordering the vinyl LP I love all your songs 👍🤘

yep - i am sure it is!
kenny helped him get his early demos released
Good spot!
The guy he is playing against is Withered Hand, and Idlewilds Rod Jones watches on
Divine Comedy meets Arab Strap, I'm in....
Cracking the Cryptic brought me here
This fantastic song has been stuck in my head since the first listen. Thank you!
I like this song
This sounds like it could be a Divine Comedy song
Yeah, I thought it was when I first heard it. A worthy successor.
Totally agree, he definitely shares Neil Hannons effortlessly classy vocal sounds. Glad I found this.
I just discovered something great.
That is good quality stuff. (I made a typo in good (typed god) and part of me wanted to leave it in.) It is god quality.
Strange enigmatic title, great song!
youtube recommended this to me. not disappointed at all, great stuff
Impressive song. Will catch him at Psych Fest in Manchester.
When everyone turns of for the shoot and you realise you have a badminton net but no stands for it, but luckily the gaffer has a couple extra light stands. :)
Mic stands not light stands. Deliberate attention to detail to add to the surreality of a badminton match in a music venue. :)
Pure wonderful talent
BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Extravagantly good tune 👏
Lovvvvvve this song. Suuuuch a beautiful voice. Sounds like if Alex Kapranos sang a Morrissey / Divine Comedy song. Musicians love comparisons, right? ;)
And here I am again!
Well done
Who was the Mauritian Badminton champion of 1973 ?
BRILLIANT

AMAZING
Lyrically top marks...

Is that Dan Wilson (Withered Hand whipping you ass on the court? Looking forward to your new album release... Asia records are taking pre orders now.
think he does backing vocals too!
Winner!
Is that Leith Theatre?
Yes, it is.
Is that King Creosote commentating (kenny A.)?
Belter! Great track… is that Kenny Anderson sporting new hairdo and cans?
From Cracking the Cryptic, anyone?
When you discover a talented man and immediately think he could be the new Neil Hannon..
I'm here because Simon told me to come here, find a friend
Legal essa banda influência de The Smiths ou dizemos morrissey deveria ter mais bandas legais nesse gênero
Edinbraaaaaa
Reminds me of Carl Puttnam from Cud. Not a bad thing.
I still miss The Smiths.
🤩🤩🤩
Karen , this is terrific. 👏👏👏
I hear Morrissey
Radio 6 Music caning this. For good reason.
