Harris Matrix Tutorial

I had to do a lab on the Harris Matrix in my principles of archaeology class, and found that there really weren't any good resources on how to draw a Matrix. I hope this is helpful, I may have made a mistake or two in the last example but overall this should give you a solid foundation for how to start drawing Harris Matrices.

Are there different versions in American and European Archaeology? I was taught a completely different approach with the numbers and the drawing method in Uni in the UK

same. but this approach here is so much simpler to understan o.o

this approach is simpler. It can be used for the basic. But with the pit. I thougth first the youngest on top then the oldest. So number 8 should come first then 7. and 7 has no contact with 5 and 6 but 9 does have contact with 5 and 6

Hi! First of all thanks, your video help me so much. But I want to ask a few questions: in the 2nd example why did you number the layers with 2 and 3? Isn't that supposed to be a unique layer? The same thing happnes in the 3rd example. Also I didn't understand clearly why did you split the dig in two layers. Thanks in advance!

Sy, but the 2nd example is absolutely wrong. The layer 2nd and 3rd has already exist when somebody created the layer 1st. The correct order is: 5-4-1-2=3
