    An easier way to do 5:11 (problem 6) is to equate it with algebraic equations:
    Let x be Kali's time: K = x
    and let Matt = x - 1 (put minus one since he left an hour later)
    Kali's speed it at 40kpm and Matt's speed is at 50kpm and let's multiply their speeds with their respective assigned algebraic equations:
    40(x) = 50(x - 1)
    40x = 50x - 50
    50 = 50x - 40x
    50 = 10x
    5 = x
    Let's recall that Kali's speed is equated to x, which means x = 5 so that's Kali's time.
    Matt's time is x - 1 so 5 - 1 = 4, you still get the same answer.

      I’m really trash at math but why can’t you just set both k and m =200 on the table. 40x5=200 and 50x4=200. Is that coincidence? Because that doesn’t exactly give you the answer. Because Matt can drive over 200 since he drove faster. So I don’t get why that works I also don’t get why his answer works. Because Matt’s should be a decimal right?
      Ohh, he left an hour later. I forgot

    As far as I understand there is a mistake in question 4: it asks the time Jose drove before Rob caught up not the overall time of Jose's journey. So I believe the answer is 1

    • @tylermitchell9131
      @tylermitchell9131 11 месяцев назад +1

      It took Rob 5 hours to catch up with Jose, who had been driving for a longer amount of time (because he left earlier than Rob). So that tells you right there that Jose had to have been driving for a longer amount of time than 5 hours. So the answer couldn't be 1.
      "1 hour" would be the correct answer if the question were "For how long did Jose drive, AFTER Rob departed, before Rob caught up with him?"
      But the question is simply "How long did Jose drive before Rob caught up?" (I.e. What was Jose's total driving time up to the point that Rob caught up?)
