IMSCARED is an absolute classic in 4th wall breaking horror games. I really wish that multiplayer game with a similar artstyle, also from Ivan Zanotti had come out, the name escapes me now but, I played the demo a couple times with friends and it was a blast every time.

The I'm Scared steam edition is incredibly fun to go through and get done, the only things that really get tedious and annoying are the grocery store level and the achievement hunting Like the fourth wall breaking is fun and well implemented, but having to constantly close and open the game to get things done is so annoying after the sixth or so time
Well that actually works with the story, As White Face wanted you to stop playing and the best way to do that is to make it annoying to play. So I count that as a half-win, making the annoyance work with the story, But Ivan did make it a bit too annoying.

The puzzle solving for the grocery store is pretty neat in my opinion, it’s not just a case of “I need to quit again” but more like “what do I need to do this time”
I would think more "also crawl", given that it's no more of a game than Imscared was, and you could argue it uses its chosen medium less effectively than Imscared does.

There's still even more to the game after the true ending. When you delete the heart file and in the light world and go to the street, there is a new npc you can talk to that's out of bounds beyond the giant fences. I believe you need to have/play through the demo Ivan released as the demo has a file in it that will allow you to offset the players x and y coordinates to clip out of bounds to talk to the "curator" that takes you on a little extra segment that reveals Ivan is planning on making an update (possibly this year) that may include more community involvement.
i remember playing imScared on the family computer in the livingroom, it was connected to the tv and had a wireless keyboard. it was late at night, i was probably like 13 ish? i had my friend over and we were freaking out trying to go to bed that night. my moms always been into weird stuff so she had a phrenology head on the banister between the kitchen and living room, so it looked like there was a white head staring at us through the open area.
I remember playing the 2016 update with friends in high school, even bringing my laptop to my friend's room and one of us taking keyboard controls and the other taking the mouse for one of the chase scenes. When we were at the very end that last jumpscare got me so badly I had a visible delayed reaction before screaming.
A Dark Place is essentially the product of wanting to make something Imscared-inspired but it essentially straddling the line of plagiarism anywhere it draws from it, while any other sections are just poorly made (and quite shoehorned, I remember it randomly opens and closes the disk drive for literally no reason at one point)
Honestly this should be an excuse to cover "Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion" since Kira got permission from Ivan to put White Face in his game as a DLC speciman. In fact after a FnF mod on Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion came out, more people want to cover it and if that wasn't interesting enough, you can actually battle White Face in that mod but accessing the secret song is tricky as it pulls directly from the source material (You basically have a game crash on the freeplay selection screen, and Spooky pulls up a RUclips vido on how to fix that with the original voice from I'mScared used. You have to figure out you need to step away from the Cat-dos and you end up Guiding Boyfriend into picking up a heart. You see White Face and you get another tutorial video about what to do next. You eventually get a text screen asking you to guess ite name and there's a third video with a cipher that basically gave you the answer: No, not White Face or HER, they mean its name in Spooky's game; Unknown Speciman 1). That song was really cool and even had HER come in for a bit before White face shoots her like in the game
As a IMSCARED obsessed person I must say, did you know one of the phrases that appear on the correct map tab is "Never gonna give you up"? Because I find that silly.
This and A Dark Place are honestly my favorite meta horror games, Kinito Pet is also good but these 2 are more nostalgic to me Just the idea of an entity messing with your computer and communicating from stuff like the files or even notepads and its always neat

That’s why I prefer the original short version. I like the extra content in the Steam version. But it loses its scare factor after a while.

Back in like 2018, I tried to play Imscared and luckily stopped playing it. It also was labeled "Bad games" by my father alongside two other horror games Spooky's Jumpscare Mansion and even Bendy and the Ink Machine.
I'd love it if you'd cover the Chzo Mythos indie horror point & click adventure series made by Yahtzee of Zero Punctuation fame. There's four games but they can all be knocked out in an hour or two each.
