- Davangere Benne Dose / Benne Dose / Davangere Special Benne Dosa Recipe in Kannada.
Ingredients for Dosa batter ;
Raw rice 3 cup
Poha medium 1 cup
Urad dal 1/2 cup
Methi seeds 1 tsp
*Soak above ingredients for 5 - 6 hours
*Grind to smooth and allow batter 8 hours for fermentation.
Add curd 1 tbsp & salt to taste,mix batter well.
Ingredients for Chutney :
Green chilli - cook in boiling water for 5 - 7 minutes
Clove 1
Cardamom 1
Cinnamon 1/2 inch
Star anise / chakra phool 1
Fresh coconut slices 1 cup
Salt to taste

I used to eat Davanagere benne dose near Netkallappa Circle. It is not available anywhere in Maddur. I was always missing it.
Today, I prepared as per this video. Tastes the same as Netkallappa Circle's. Thanks for the video.

Gorgeous dosas!! ...and the homemade butter is just too delicious... I usually use brown rice as it is more wholesome. I will try making this same recipe with brown rice... great recipe! Also if you can put English subtitles so you can reach wider audience.

Wow great recipe...!!! Any reason why put cold water on tawa before dose.. Have often seen this on hotels as well...???
To reduce the surface temperature of the pan. by doing so, you are giving sometime for the dosa batter to settle down and begin the cooking process. But, if you don’t do it, dosa batter will immediately stick to the pan and it will be burnt.

Ma'am....How u season the iron tawa. Dosa coming out so nicely
Before the first use, heat the cast iron tawa on a medium flame. Pour a few drops of oil on the dosa tawa. Use half-cut onion to spread the oil on the entire cooking surface of the tawa. Keep spreading the onion a couple of times, until the onion turns golden brown. Then with a tissue or paper cloth wipe the excess oil from the dosa tawa. Repeat the process for 2 - 3 times & then use it.

Curd will make batter very sour as it is also being fermented for 8 hours
Add less, curd gives a special flavour

Update: I tried using dosa rice and it came out really tasty. I gave a try using idli rice but it wasn't the same taste .was not happy with the texture.

Hi mam, should the batter get fermented completely?? And is it ok to keep outside for more than 8 hrs??
During summer days fermentation takes hardly 8 - 10 hours even if it is kept outside.

I am from Davangere.. Chutney ge chakke lavanga hakallaa.. only yellakki, kobri, salt n besida mensinkai saaku for original taste
Mam can we use regular idli rice that is boiled rice also or only raw rice to be used.
For this type of Dosa use raw rice as it gives very good texture & amazing taste..

Sudha when you mention raw rice, is it idly rice, or any kind of rice. Eg Basmati etc.
Standard white rice which is used as cooking rice is raw rice. You can also use any available rice with you.
