"Lend me your lockpick" I've known Ethos for all of 30 seconds, but if anything happened to them I would kill everyone in the room and then myself. What a legendary random.
funfact ethos probably did the d20 emote to decide who takes the item if u had done the emote and rolled a higher number they would have given it to you :D
Im guessing he must be pretty new to online matches since pretty much everyone after their first games decided to not use d6 and d20 emotes since you either get both or get what u want
I cant believe i almost got into a game with you!! Its really does suck that it got disconnected… i would love to try and play a game with you again!!❤
Mattman, At around the 10:20 mark Ethos used the D20 emote to gamble which of you got the item, as when you use the emote it rolls a random number between 1 and 20 (and culture is the highest roller takes the item). The D6 emote has the same gimick

I love the vibes of communicating without text chat. Like, I dunno. Something about multiplayer where people sorta mime to each other has always felt very wholesome and charming. When communication takes effort, it feels satisfying and rewarding I guess. FromSoft game multiplayer works this way in that there's no text chat at all and so all communication is through miming and emotes and such, and it creates some really cool moments. It's also kinda... deeply sad how transient the interactions are? I feel like one ideal of a multiplayer experience for me involves running into the same small set of people like this. Almost like the NPCs, which you encounter throughout the game. But then I'd want it so that at the end you can like, add them to a text chat and just chat instead of saying goodbye forever lol. Though in a game like Dark Souls this doesn't really work because people progress at different rates lol.
Spelunky has an online with no text chat or emotes so people communicate with whips and crouches and running around and it's pretty darn funny. Whenever you do something stupid everyone just run around like headless chickens then gang up on you, or crouch walk to seem disappointed. To be fair isaac is a little more complicated in its mechanics, so I think a text chat is warranted
@@sunlightFrequency Yeah! Exactly. There's something very wholesome and charming about these like... friendly interactions with total strangers where your ability to communicate is lacking
To answer why the Angel Beam looks different: For online multiplayer, if you're ever in a room that's bigger than 1x1 (Any shape) and there's any enemy with a laser (Brimstone, Revelation or even technology iirc), they could start preparing their laser due to 1 player, but the other(s) could be too far away to notice it. So they added a light as a bit of a warning for those far away. It's really easy to see it appear a lot in greed mode due to being in a 1x2 space
Hearing how much more energy your voice had gained after the basement paperclip play was really cool. Those little moments that get you just a little more pumped and energetic are what makes life great
14:00 end of floor curse room is bc self damage used to affect deal chance so you had to do them last or take the deal penalty. I don't remember when they changed it. Rebirth?
I actually think it is a repentance change. Before that, doing curse rooms and sac rooms with Red Health had the same deal penalty as getting hit with red health. I'm glad they changed it 😔🙏
I actually didn't go to the curse room because I wanted to make sure we had enough hearts first. Unless I have a teleport card, I always save curse rooms for last.
fun fact, you can use items like the necronomicon which many players overlook to temporarily pause the game, back when co-op was local/remote you paused the game to easily align items, so you can use your active to do the same
Ethos starting a run with 'lend me your lockpick' and getting every secret room under the sun tells me he has incredible game sense Then forgets book of secrets...
@EthosArris Book of secrets is one of those items you just want to use as much as possible Can either cause the map, blue map, compass effects and just honestly reveal useful information about the map and what you're missing. It's so handy.
Mattman, in co-op you can easily take both items in alternate floors etc by deciding on a timer where you both start going for the item For exemple : Check your timer by pressing tab and decide to go on the item at like 15:00 since you both have the same timer, then you just go at the same time and ignore the input delay thing
at the end ethos probably thought he was the one at the left so he walked right, plus you gave him the confused effect which i think inverts his movement
The online is so much fun. I even entered a fun lobby where everyone was just T. Lost and we had around an hour of T. Lost sheanigans until we started to get disconnected one by one by the game itself. Even had a similar lobby but with just Forgottens.
So the dice emote thing is basically like a coin toss but whoever gets the highest number gets to keep the item, or if the item is bad the one with the lowest number has to pick it up
The reason why we all use to go curse room last was because any damage would break your deal chance so it was batter to kill the boss and only then go curse room last
Hey Matt, at 11:19, the new binding of issac tech I've been using online is using the D20 emote and whatever number ot lands on, you can look at the seconds on the timer and go take both items when the time hits on whatever number the dice lands on Ex. I roll a d20 and it lands on 18, when the seconds timer hits 18 we both grab the item at the same time
i remember when i first started watching isaac youtubers i was playing the game without sound and so youtube without sound as well. around A MONTH AFTER THAT i learned that matt actually talks in his videos. then a few months later i remember being on his fnaf stream with a webcam and now i cant get his voice nor face out of my head. it's burnt into my brain like that one guy that burnt jerma's face into his family's tv
what me and my friends do to get double items in alt path is we're like "okay i'm gonna use the dice emote and when it finishes rolling move up" and we've been pretty successful with it so far
Man, Isaac online is so much fun for runs like these, I did a T. Forgotten with 2P Apollyon run yesterday where I got Gnawed Leaf and Monster Manual and became a bullet shield for the Apollyon in chest + void since we were both gonna die
3:29 Me and a couple of friends actually managed to take both items, even with the insane amounts of input delay A little tip to make it almost always work: Position yourselves close to the pedestals, preferably under them, then count to 3 and run to the bottom wall, keep an eye on your friend and once both touch the wall run straight for the items It works like 95% of the time even with lag, anywhere you can do the little wall run, hope it works for you guys
"Going to curse rooms last is old school", makes sense since I'm pretty sure there used to be no difference between enemy damage and self-damage, both would ruin your Devil Deal chance
The fight at the end gives you knock out drops I think and that messes with movement. I think ethos was still trying to win just wasn't ready for the confused state his character was in
I found a more consistent way to get both pedestals with less communication where one person starts running from far back and the other person starts moving towards the item when both people are lined up. :)
A little rant But I wanted to try isaac online and I played a game of 3 where I said that I'm not that good at the game (I have like 30 hours on it) and they said it's fine and flamed me the entire game The way I deal with this is not replying and muting (but I actually don't know if you can mute people in isaac :v) But anyway that was my first and last game of online isaac that's not with my irl friends Seeing this video made me want to give it another shot Edit: I forgot to mention until I finished the video but funny enough I won the pvp
Hello matt, Quick Coop tip, using a book or card or really and item that pops up and pauses the game can be used to sync movements to get both items on alt floors
First time I played online with friends i was screaming at my friend who was playing Maggie with 6 red hearts and multiple soul and black hearts, because he kept taking good intems and all the soul/black hearts even though i was playing Azazel and had 1 heart left with no heart containers and my other friend was playing Judas, same thing 1 red heart. Had lots of fun tho, we won so thats something
Hey Mat I got an Idea for the alt floor treasure rooms, if you would base the start of running to the items based on the timer (i.e. both start to run at 2:30) you can actually manage to both get the items consistently.
When I was getting the achievement with a friend of mine we had just barely beaten Blue Baby after 3 times in the chest and he immediatly stood over Delirium portal. I shouted "no" so hard at that moment.
the way i do the duo item take is to go at a time on the timer, so if i was at 14:30 id say start to take at 14:35, its the most consistent way ive found to get both items because the timer is global and not client side
i love everything about repentance plus, they’ve solved like every quality of life change i could’ve asked for. but it’s so buggy mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn. i literally just crashed 2 seconds ago on an hour and 30 minute delirium run. pure agony.
the emote bar has a functional d20, so basically when me and my friends find a broken item in the treasure room, we just d20 to see who gets it, and its always funny
Something that I figured out with a friend doing the double item pick up is timing it by shooting tears, like shooting up to 3 tears then move up so we both get the item
End of the floor curse room is cause until repentance released, all red heart damage counted against deals, including curse rooms. It was never worth going to curse room pre repentance unless you goathead or flight+tp.
Matt you roll the d20 for who gets the item. Because everyone wants the good items or the only treasure room item. So always recommend to roll the D20 emote for fairness!

10:09 i think what he meant with the d20 emoji is that you would use the emoji too, and who ever gets the higher number takes the item (cuz the d6 and d20 give a random number)
I just got done playing a game with Ethos. Real cool guy, he played Caine while I played Azazel. I wish I could've chatted with them more, but I was on Steam Deck so typing wasn't exactly an option. Ethos, if you're reading this: I'm sorry we disconnected, I really enjoyed playing with you, man :'
4 weeks and 2 days of asking Mattman to fill up his donation machine (close to the max) because it's been on life support for too long. The offer still stans BTW. We were here for the long run, guys.
A good job as usual, and a nice video. My only criticism is that when playing multiplayer, it would be good to think more about interplayer synergy. For example; if you had gotten Ethos to take Crooked Penny while keeping Hourglass, things could have gotten very silly.
14:30 I bet he went curseroom after fullclearing sorta because back then entering with red heart damage would loose you deal chance. Tough he didn't go after the boss fight
10:27 dice emotes are usually used to decide who gets an item. In this case though I think ethos was just making a joke about gambling because of crooked penny, I can’t see them rolling for it since neither of you would want it anyway (or they were rolling for the blind I guess?)

I enjoyed playing with ya too, man! And, I know that feeling, I was on steam deck too. You were great as cain.
BABE WAKE UP MATTMAN JUST DROPPED
4 weeks and 2 days of asking Mattman to fill up his donation machine (close to the max) because it's been on life support for too long.
The offer still stans BTW.
We were here for the long run, guys.
21:52 i got a panadol headache ad right after this split second
26:09 "Do you wanna finish" -- Lazy Mattman to Ethos, 2024
Getting hurt by a bomb at the beginning is a very Ethos moment
The curse is still active "the next time you get a death certificate you need to pick Ludovico's"
Mattman (and his teammate) didn't ignore the curse
ethos da goat
Thanks!
A good job as usual, and a nice video.
My only criticism is that when playing multiplayer, it would be good to think more about interplayer synergy. For example; if you had gotten Ethos to take Crooked Penny while keeping Hourglass, things could have gotten very silly.
Ah, that would've been smart! I didn't think of that.
10:12 the d20 emote works likes a d6 as in when you use it is shows a random number. So bacically the 15 means nothing
PLEASE FIND A WAY TO BRING ETHOS ON MORE I LOVE HIM
such an ethos moment
