The Decline is a masterpiece. I've seen it twice live and it is my favourite song of all time. "And so we go, on with our lives. We know the truth, but prefer lies... Etc. etc." makes me cry pretty much every god damn time.
Oh yes my favorite part too... once I saw them they played Life o Riley and just when hefe finishes... and so we go , on with our lives we know the truth but prefer lies lies are simple simple is bliss... it was orgasmic😅
The decline is completely unbelievable. Every single second feels earned. There's not one section you want to skip. Any time it comes on I stop what I'm doing and listen. Seriously, it's well known in punk or even alt rock circles, but I feel like it hasn't even had its moment yet. It's gonna go ultra viral 10-20 years after NOFX retires or some shit like that. I'd never heard anything like it. Without it I don't think you get American Idiot's longer songs (which clearly are inspired by the decline) which ultimately made that album as big as it was.

This is the best description of this song.I've ever heard of❤. And thank you and I just listened to it now. Again😂
I this song in middle school, 25 years later it's still hits hard.
I always said they would never play it live, then, low and behold, I went to a show and they played the full thing.
Haha! I didn’t expect to see you here, Preston. Had no idea you like punk rock 👍🏻
I have seen it twice and it was teased twice plus Im going to see it again in 12 days for the last time ever.
Saw it live the 2nd time i saw them. I was 13. My Dad and I started crying when they started playing it. I’ll never forget that concert
I saw them play it live in 2005 in Montreal, what an experience!!
The greatest punk song ever maybe top 10 greatest songs
Agreed 💯
Definitely
Smelly one of the best drummers out there
Mike writes all the guitar parts and drum beats too? amazing
It blew our mind too! 🪄
And he played all the guitars part also (except Hefe lead at the end of part 1)
Erik's descriotion ofnhow he lesrned the parts is how i learn longer songs, i also apply it to studying long lists
beautiful
Thx for everything smelly 😢

American Idiot’s long multi-part songs, as well as its overall story were more inspired by The Who’s “Tommy” and “Quadrophenia” than anything else.
Wow!! It was before pro tools
why even wear a shirt my dude
It's about 33 mins to long😅
