The Probe GT was Motor Trend Magazine's Car of the Year in 1993. It was also included in Car and Driver Magazine's Top Ten List for 1989, 1993 and 1994.
I had a '96 GT with the manual 5-speed transmission. It would do 80mph + in 3rd gear. It was fairly powerful for a 2.5 liter V6. Handling was what really impressed me with it. I got around 26mpg city/highway in it. I bought it new. It was the medium alpine green color. People would ask, "what kind of car is that?" or "Is that the new Mustang?" That dark green didn't make the lines stand out as much as they did in red and white and even the black paint jobs. I sold it in 2001 or '02 to a buddy of mine. He drove it all the way through college. Funny thing was that mine being the GT, it didn't have cruise control. My best friend at the time had the 4 cylinder SE with cruise. LOL. I really enjoyed the sunroof and the hatchback. I also had the chrome rims. Anyway. I guess I kind of miss that car now that I think about it.
This was my first car as a teenager. It had beautiful rims. Was siezed from a drug dealer before I owned it. I had it for years and years. It was burgundy red and beautiful. It was my first "girl". :) It was nearly all stock minus the rims and radio. What crazy is the probe got me SO MANY GIRLS... looking back at it, I'm like WOW... I really wish I could buy it back and restore it. I loved that car. Thank you uploader.
Haha, i hear you! I just turned 16 and got one as old as me... '96. It is such a pleasure to drive and i got the gt model so it is great fun. If its as good as you say then i think i will really like it... I have only heard great ratings about it so i am very pleased.
I had two 93' Probe GT.. first was automatic and 2nd was a manual. I actually prefer the auto.. when you stomped on it.. it was like a slingshot... fun ride.. In between Transmission repairs that is. lol I went through 2 replacements and 1 rebuild. The handling was the best I have experienced too.. so low to the ground, wide.. could hug corners so well.

my first car was an 89' Probe LX.. I got T-Boned in a mall parking lot by a 1986 Chevy Cavalier that was traveling about 12 mph. About 65% of the glass surrounding me exploded like a bomb. I had shards of glass in my face and head, the Probe was totaled. After the crash, the owner of the Cavalier got out unscaved, placed his bumper in the back seat and drove off...
I had a 1995 Ford Probe GT. It was great for the first 2 years....and then it literally fell apart in every way imaginable. It was by far the most poorly built car I've ever owned. This commercial is pretty funny though...the lady with the British accent, trying to make it seem so sophisticated!
Sounds like you had a bad one. Did you buy it used how many miles did it have? And for the time they weren't exactly a dull or drab car. Also gonna note my 93 PGT or probe 24v if you prefer has over 160,000 miles. Still runs strong no problems at all.
- Mine is still strong at 190k miles. Was and is still a great car. You may indeed got a bad one. (One made late on a Friday afternoon right before quitting time for the weekend at Flat Rock) 🙂
I hear you, I hear you... My GT is nice, but the SE... THE BEST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED.... EVER. She is just barely over 194,000 miles... runs like a champ.

Very cool. I am now on a mission to get mine back on the road. Not many are left. Hope yours is still doing well.
I wish I was high while I was watching this
My Uncle had one. I remember he added a second "r" to the "Probe" on the emblem on the back of car making it say "Prober"!
That is one car I do miss owning live to have another GT
This cars interior reminds me so much of a 1991 Dodge Stealth
I have two, a 95 GT, and a 96 SE. Both Automatics... The GT is White. the SE is Black (and for sale).
Que coche más bonito.

What color combo is the GTS? Mine is black with white stripes, I always liked the bright red with the white stripes.
