How to make Coffee Filter Roses with Hey Angela Marie

  • Make AUTHENTIC looking coffee filter roses for less than 5 cents each!!! Make them in custom colors with acrylic craft paint and paint blends. So simple anyone can do it. It's so much fun making floral arrangements for your home with pennies and just a few minutes.
    You will need:
    acrylic craft paint. I used 5 colors for the petals; peach, deep pink and red mixed together and deep red and purple for depth on the edges of the leaves but you can use a minimum of 2 colors, a light color and a dark color. I used 2 colors for the coffee filter leaves and floral tape; dark green and light green, but you can use 1 green if you prefer. I got my paint at Walmart for 50 cents each, but you can get them at any craft supplier for around the same price.
    USE MATTE FINISH!!! gloss affects the filter in a way that makes it more difficult to shape the flower in the end, although it can be done. It just doesn't look as natural in my opinion.
    You also need scizzors, any white glue, wire and twigs from the back yard, which are free and look more natural, but you can use heavy gage wire for positioning in an arrangement or wooden skewers. You also need coffee filters. I got a 150 count pack from the Dollar Tree for $1.00. For the cost of the few drops of paint, glue, wire and 12 coffee filters turns out to be under 5 cents, so with an investment of about $5.50 you can make about 10-15 flowers with plenty of materials left over! For every pack of 150 count filters, you can make 10-15 more, so $6.50 equals 20-30 flowers, etc!!
    Have fun and customize! I have also done both the flowers and leave in 1 pastel color for event arrangements and it looks amazing.
    Thanks for allowing me to bring you this very cool project! Share it with a friend to help save them money and start one of my favorite addictions; being creative on a budget!!! SEE YOU NEXT TIME!!!!

      Thank you. I try to make things look like they would in a store. So many times I couldn't afford extras so it motivated me to try and make them for almost free but not have them look like an arts and crafts project...I hate that home made look. If it looks like that I don't post it. Thanks for watching and I hope you keep coming back.

    They came out lovely. Have you tried using food coloring and a little water to color the filters then place on cookie sheet to dry in oven at 300 for 30 to 60 min depending how many filters you are drying. The acrylic paint you use tends to make the flowers look on the dull side. Also when using several colors they need to dry between colors so they don't run together and turn the colors muddy. You can blend different colors together to begin to get desired color tone but don't let wet colors touch each other they will run together and make a color you were not intending. I did like them and I will be trying different methods to see which look the most realistic. thank you.

    • @heyangelamarie
      @heyangelamarie  6 лет назад +1

      I will be posting a video using food coloring and acrylic paint. it does look a little on the dull side but when you mix them together it looks pretty good. gloss paint helps with the dullness also. it just tends to make the petals a bit stiff for my taste. sometimes food coloring doesn't give me the richness I like. also I blend the colors wet on purpose so that it looks more natural and not stripy. using correct color blending w9ill help them not look muddy. Pink with purple for instance. I really appreciate the tips though. i'll try anything when it comes to art. thank you and please come back again. MUAH!

      @@heyangelamarie I know this is 2 years ago, and not sure you will get this. I do think that some of the issues with types of blending, types of paint, etc. comes down to individual preference. It's fun to experiment with a lot of different mediums and techniques. I saw where one of your posters had used watercolors. I was also thinking about how alcohol inks would work. What made me think of it was this: One year, I was teaching Kindergarten, and we had the kids do an experiment where they colored on the filters with markers first, lines and simple shapes, not solid. Then we put them in water, and the children were fascinated to see the colors spread and blend. Being Kg, we kept it simple; our end products were butterflies. They folded the filters up accordian style, and tied around the middle with pipe cleaners which also became the antennae. Just fluffed the wings up and hung them with fishing line around the room. They were so colorful and pretty. We had done a project involving making ladybugs out of paper plates and they were still hanging, too. Our bulletin board had large sunflowers they had made to learn the parts of a plant. The room was really cheerful! Anyway, that was kind of long, but I enjoy sharing. I saw a tutorial somewhere showing how to make your own alcohol inks using alcohol and markers like Sharpies. They took the felt? ink core out of the markers (even dried up ones) and soaked them in alcohol. I don't remember the details, but you could probably search it. I've always wanted to try it, but haven't found time yet. This is so long now that I really hope you get it. I think I'll save a copy in case you don't get it here. This was the second tute I've watched by you. The first one was the hydrangeas which I still can't wait to try! (At least I think it was you.) But I don't think I subscribed, so I'm off to do that now! God Bless you for sharing your art. It's beautiful!

    Angela Marie, I enjoyed watching your video. I found the music to be soothing. I don't mind reading because I can pause it and usually do. My problem is the visual speed through some parts, like crumpling the leaves, it's just too fast for older eyes :) I would be just as shy about videoing myself. When I get nervous my voice cracks and squeaks. Overall, I love this project. I stopped in the first few moments to like it, save it and subscribe to your channel. Can't wait to see more of your ideas.

      Than you so much! If you mean scrunching the petals, think about crushing a can with your hands only gently while holding the stem just under the flower and scrunching only the top of the flower down to where your fingers are holding the bottom. Not all the way but about half. let me know if you need more of a description than this and I will answer back until you understand. Thanks for your interest and I will always reply. Muah!

      If you mean the leaves, fold them accordion style. Back and forth but with very tiny
      folds after creasing the leaf down the middle. Hope this helps.

    Beautiful: Just a comment. In nature most petals, leaves etc come in odd numbers. I like the old roses effect. Some are so "sharp" they just dont work. Thank You so much.

      I recommend you soften the colors to your taste. I actually prefer it. The video is a suggestion of how you can blend color. My hope/wish is that everyone use at least 5 colors that suit them in whatever their favorite scheme may be. If you say that I would like you to dm me via Instagram @heyangelamarie to show me how you have improved on it with more of the colors of your choice. I will post it and maybe remake my own version on you tube with an update/more detail..probably will do it anyway. Look forward to posting your pics and thank yo so much for watching...thanks in advance for sharing. You may inspire someone even more than I.

    The roses are beautiful. I love the music but also would rather hear your voice bc some things weren't clear in this fast video. I just made a rose while watching- I cut the little slits while the filter was still closed instead of opening the filter and making all those individual cuts. it came ok but I found the glue was making my fingers stick to the petals, and I used very little. Overall it's a really nice video- thank you.

      Also use a wet paper towel after applying each petal. It comes off pretty easy. I don't bother. Guess I'm used to it.

    • @heyangelamarie
      @heyangelamarie  6 лет назад

      add a good amount of red food coloring to your paint/water mixture. Maybe 10 to 20 drops. Play with the measurement. If it comes out too cool, then ad some yellow but inly a little.

    Your flowers are absolutely beautiful. I just wish you would do a talking tutorial. Where you explain what you are doing and maybe give material lost off to the side. I also have a hard time reading that fast and trying to see whats going on. I am a visual learner so although I love the results I am still confused as to how to do this because I was unable to read the instructions and watch at the same time.

      Thank you for your comment. I really appreciate the time. I was and still am so nervous to have my voice or face appear but I know it's necessary. The captions are short because I was worried about what other people said about everything taking too long. Not as much in my future videos. Better every time. You are the first to confirm what I know I need to do. Thanks again. Hope will enjoy the videos to come. Please subscribe and turn on your notifications so that I can find out what you think about what I post from here. I will be keeping the music but it won't seem as prevalent as it does now. Also you should mute it of it distracts you. Much love and really, thank you.
