This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. It's rare to find good quality creator content focusing on the retro micro computer scene in Europe. I remember this game as a kid. I was terrible at it, and all the characters would starve because I had clue what I supposed to do. But the open gameplay and exploration were mind-blowing for me at the time. It eventually led to me enjoying Batman: The Caped Crusader, Blinky's Scary School and of course the Dizzy games.
Very kind of you to say - the Dizzy games were all great, we were all obsessed with Dizzy where I lived. My friends had more of them on the ZX Spectrum than I did for the C64, but I've played them all over the years. Definitely need to add more 'Dizzy' titles to the channel sometime soon 😇🕹️👌
I should definitely look for the Magic Knight games for my Commodore 64 😹👍. They even have the brilliant soundtracks 🎵🎶, such as from David Whittaker (KNIGHT TYME) and Rob Hubbard (SPELLBOUND) 😺👍🕹️.
I'd say they're the top 2 musicians for the C64, I'd rate Rob Hubbard No.1 however, he pioneered many of the effects used on the SID chip and his soundtracks are uniquely unmistakable.
40 plus years later, 40+ year old C64 games are STILL getting magazine style reviews. No one can tell me the the C64 wasn't special. It's the veritable definition of: Legendary Home Computer. What an awesome job you and your YT channel are doing sir. Thank you.
Richard Darling was one of the 2 developers before he founded Codemasters with his brother that later became part of EA. Better than many full priced games, it cost £2.99 instead of £1.99, but it was definitely more than worth it and the awesome soundtrack made it a real classic.
Always enjoyed me a bit of Spellbound. Some cryptic puzzles and a unique atmosphere in the game. I wasn't very good at it though and never got that far.
A great piece of cover art isn't it! I love the cartoon design - need to get the M.A.D games 'Words & Pictures' covers printed in poster format somehow for my wall 😇🕹👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer the whole series is full of it. It's great 👍. Actually this series I felt was wayyy ahead of its time. And so difficult to get into and beat!
I remember buying this for my Atari 130XE, which I later replaced with a C64, when I was about 8-9 years old and didn't know a word of English. I had to use a tiny English-Swedish travel dictionary with miniscule text and didn't get very far before giving up.
It's nice to see another video in this series. I never played these. This looks different, but interesting. I also couldn't help but notice the DOS clip at 3:10 has games that I enjoyed as well! We seem to like similar games! =)
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Same here! LOL! A lot of the people I knew back then either weren't into gaming (we had that gaming crash here)... or they were into very different games.
Quote a good game this, completely different from Finders Keepers. Was a nice surprise when I first played it, was really impressed with the menu system for interacting with characters and items 😇🕹👌
I seem to remember an interview with Jones where he stated there was going to be another installment in the series where Magic Knight takes the helmet off and revealed to be female.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer - Same. So atmospheric. It always felt bigger than it actually was. Bard’s Tale and Times of Lore were technically bigger/better games, but none bring back the same sense of nostalgia that Master of Magic does.
Yeas you can use both - press the fire button on the joystick or if you're using keyboard then it's space to choose the menu. 'H' & 'B' move the finger up and down by default 😇🕹️👌
Cheeky's channel deserves tens of thousands of more subs.
Very kind of you to say ❤️ all I ask is for people to share and spread the love for these great games 😇🕹👌
My friend had this on tape and his dad had blagger and grandmaster chess on tape
Another classic from my childhood. Great atmosphere. Thanks!
Another great game isn't it, certainly had plenty to do in it, some games had loads of depth 😇🕹👌

OMFG my 1st C64 game that I had with the unit back in 1988 omfg!!!!! Thankyou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Aaahh awesome, definitely something that you'll find extremely nostalgic then for sure 😇🕹👌
I absolutely adore Rob Hubbard's music for Spellbound. I think he said this was his favourite of his own tunes as well.
There's so many to choose from - I think Master Of Magic has to be right up there as the best for me 😇🕹️👌

Very kind, much appreciated. Retro till I die 😆🕹👌
Love the music! Rob Hubbard did some really enjoyable music for the system.
I'm with you on that one, it's such a travesty why Rob Hubbard hasn't been knighted by now! For me, he'll always be Sir Rob Hubbard for sure 😇🕹️👌

Richard was responsible for one of my favourite games of all time ' Master Of Magic', what a legend 😇🕹️👌
Always enjoyed me a bit of Spellbound. Some cryptic puzzles and a unique atmosphere in the game. I wasn't very good at it though and never got that far.
Was definitely a 'thinking' game - I was engrossed as a kid, I'd never seen this style game before with the menu commands, revolutionary 😇🕹️👌
"48 Hours, and I'm a Gonner" "🎶If I had a hammer!" 😄

I am impressed that at least you tried to translate some of the words! But I can see now that your English is perfect 😇🕹️👌
The sprite walks like a Peanuts-Character.
Yeah you can imagine that Magic Knight has been lifted straight from a Charlie Brown cartoon 😇🕹️👌

I needed some gaming buddies back in the 80s too, where the hell was you man!!! Haha 😇🕹️👌

The command "BLOW SOMETHING" sounds fairly specifically unspecific.
Theres a lot of blowing stuff in this game haha. The Magic Knight has talents beyond belief 😇🕹️👌
Never played it but I really like the graphics. 👍🏻

kind of remember this
Was pretty innovative for its time, with the newly developed 'windimation' system 😇🕹👌
this review had me spellbound.
The music certainly mesmerises! The maestro that is Rob Hubbard 😇🕹️👌
I seem to remember an interview with Jones where he stated there was going to be another installment in the series where Magic Knight takes the helmet off and revealed to be female.
That would have been some twist! Jones is one crazy dude 😇🕹️👌
There are a lot of musical elements similar to Hubbard’s score for Master of Magic. Still prefer Master of Magic in all respects though.

@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Good to hear. Looks like an intriguing game I may have to try at some point.
