Thanks to Mikey, Joe and Mike! 🗾 Since y'all wondered... there is a willow species native to the mid-to-upper coastal area of Asia (which includes Japan)... and 40 of the worlds 350 species thrive in Japan.
Kiku is a courtesan, an upper class prostitute, Mariko is a courtier, an advisor/influental member of lord Toronaga’s court. John blackthorn is also a courtier or perhaps a retainer since he is now landed and expected to do military service (maybe?)
The priest asked Mariko if she was still having those dark thoughts. Fuji hinted at it when Mariko told her she had to obey her grandfather and Toronaga and not go with her husband and baby. Buntaro is the reason Mariko is still alive.
Another excellent episode of which the tea room scene is the highlight for me. Even with a lack of action, the episode feels really sinister. Also really enjoyed seeing into Mariko and Lady Ochiba's backstory and seeing how the latter is controlling Ishido. Glad you guys are enjoying the show as much I am.

Mikey thinking Ochiba was warning Ishido about Blackthorn is kind of hilarious. Blackthorn is just a pawn and in no way to be feared.
