I'm really digging these new tracks. My relationship with The Dark Pool is pretty similar to how I view Loathe's early material. Exceptional stuff, but I always got the sense that there was something amazing hidden away in their sound, waiting to be let loose if they ever fully lost the fear of unbridled experimentation. A chance to fully mature into the band they clearly have the potential to be. The two singles they've put out seem to be shooting for that experimentation. I understand and empathize with people who enjoyed their older music and are mourning the loss of a sound they'd grown attached to, but I'm personally quite fascinated by what this next album has the capacity to be.
This is a pretty interesting song overall. I really dug it. It's got some Defones-y vibes going on in the vocals. Gives me some other nu-metal vibes, and there's a little influence of Glassjaw sitting in there which I'm always into. There's some other vibes going on, the first verse/chorus reminds me of something specific but I can't quite put my finger on it.
This is wayyyy more of what I wanted from Thornhill than what we got with Casanova. When they said they were planning on evolving their sound, I was hoping that we'd get more of the soaring style of cleans we hear in Cherry rather than the very 90s infused wailing we got in Casanova. I think this song rides a really nice line between the 2: you can hear elements of Casanova, but this is a lot darker and moodier - I really love the atmosphere of this song. Several of the vocal parts, especially on those high notes immediately sounded reminiscent of Jacob's vocals in Cherry. Instrumentals as usual are top of their game. The drumwork has really been standing out to me on these new singles, and George Lever's legendary drum production is a perfect match here. The riffs take the parts of Casanova that I liked but make it heavier overall. I also really dug the song structure. Is this the dream direction for Thornhill for me? No. I would have loved to hear them explore the more ambient side of The Dark Pool. However, this song has convinced me that their new direction has some really unique sounds and flavours to offer, and although the album isn't among my most anticipated of the year, I'm really excited to hear what they do. EDIT: You were talking about the vocals not being as cutting, you're right!! They're definitely using some saturation on the vocals to give it that grungy feel, but as a result it takes away from the clarity of the vocal. Good ear!!
I definitely prefer this single! Thornhill always did the darker vibes really well for their music. Not that they aren't allowed to have fun and go for more upbeat songs, just isn't my preference for them. Always enjoy Jacobs vocals although I do wish there were less effects on his voice, still sounds great though. Would have preferred a more impactful outro too, but again it doesn't ruin the song for me. Overall, I did enjoy a lot but still not going to be on repeat as much as TDP songs were for me!
Stoked to see them with caskets and dayseeker in Lakewood, OH soon. Think it’s tight that. These overseas bands managed to make it happen. Well assuming Covid doesn’t force a reschedule date.
Honestly, I really dug the atmosphere and vocals of TDP and that made them stand out to me. I get progression of sound, but a complete abandonment from what so many fell in love with is kinda disappointing. This feels like it should've been a side project rather than a new direction. It's not bad by any means. I like this way more than casanova, but overall I'm a little disappointed.
This is what happens when your debut album is a masterpiece... and then seemingly changing direction completely. The new material isn't bad at all, it just isn't great. Everyone was CRAVING more of TDP... and we're juts not getting it. You have every right to feel a little disappointed.
I love arkangel my favorite from thornhill I put this song on while I’m in the shower and jacob’s in this song oh man he’s gorgeous I just discovered thornhill while I was on spring break and cherry too you should react to girls club, Alice and call me by my name.
This song is killer. Definitely prefer it to casanova but I love anything these guy come out with. Very heavy deftones, incubus, muse, and loathe vibes. Thornhill are on the path to possibly surpassing the dark pool and that makes me very excited for what's next
We don't need another deftones. Their sound from Butterfly and TDP is what made them unique, pisses me off how fanboys enable them to do this stuff by defending them and arguing that they are growing as a band and 'taking a new direction'. Their sound was already 'evolving' from their Butterfly EP to TDP
Hard agree. To me, they lost what set them apart. Now they sit beside Deftones, maybe even Muse. If I want to listen to that, I go listen to that. I get that their new stuff will probably have more mass-appeal, but it's just not what I liked about Thornhill.
Lets be real, their new material is nothing special. Is is good? Sure. Is it special? Not really. I'm certainly disappointed that we're not getting more of the TDP sound with this new record, and I think a lot of fans feel the same (genuine disappointment). But they're scared of saying what's on their mind because a lot of fans will get hostile for calling out their favourite band. Good luck to them, but if this is an indication of their new album then it's not for me.
Now this is just my personal opinion there is definitely sounds like Deftones I don’t think I like the direction Thornhill is going compare to their last album which is absolutely extraordinary
Since when did they have a new song?! I’m super curious how the new album will sound. Didn’t like the previous single & this one is little too deftones for me.
The Dark Pool isn't generic, the cleans/layers in the cleans (go listen to the isolated vocal version) give them a completely different sound than most other bands. The word generic is thrown around so often that I feel the need to reply to comments like this to point out what generic means. It means that it sounds the same as everything else. If you put on a song from TDP, there's no mistaking it for anything else unless you're not really familiar with the metalcore genre in which case- everything probably sounds the same because you don't know. While I feel enjoying the new stuff/not enjoying their older stuff is totally fair, I just don't agree with TDP being "generic ass metalcore." Anywho, glad you're enjoying Casanova and Arkangel.
The Dark Pool was one of the best albums I’ve heard in the last 10 years. This new stuff I’m just not feeling. Progression is fine & some of my favourite bands do it but why abandon your original sound completely? Casanova was ok but this one I’m not feeling at all. I’ll give the album a listen but not liking what I’m hearing so far. On these two songs, I’m not holding much hope in buying it

Hell yea,I'm feeling it.and yea,the Chino singing is definitely there.but hey, nothing wrong with that.A banger for sure!!!

I really like the Crow asthetic of the video. The airy vox is hard at first, but as the song goes on, gets a little easier on the ears.
Love your videos, Rach! Thanks for the heads up on another one.
This is probably my favorite song OAT
There is new Bad Omens too, its very good.
Dang 😍 He can really sing! Love the melodic sound and heavy grooves.
The snare pop on the drum is absolutely Deftones.
I get Deftones vibes! Really good!
Yes!

the look and the colours reminds me of the movie THE CROW with Brandon Lee
Like good old days. Evanescence, HIM, Rasmus.

Thornhill is channeling Buffy the Vampire Slayer And Batman haha nice!
love the invent hoodie
This song reminds me a lot of my nostalgic bands, The Rasmus, Muse, and Deftones.
Deftones meets the Crow but this guys voice Carrie’s so much more feels.
Son muy peculiares, pero hacen muy buena música.
This song is killer. Definitely prefer it to casanova but I love anything these guy come out with. Very heavy deftones, incubus, muse, and loathe vibes. Thornhill are on the path to possibly surpassing the dark pool and that makes me very excited for what's next
New ERRAAAA
no ERRA- Night to silence reaction yet!?!?
check community posts.
What is Jacob’s other band? I can’t find it anywhere. It would be cool to check them out and see the style differences.
Cherry! They have an EP Safe in your Stare if you're looking
@@ciaran1344 ok thank you, I will definitely check it out.
Thank you again. Find of the year for sure. Love his vocals!
@@Hawksfan2828 Aww I'm delighted to hear!! Any favourites? They also have Girls Club which was a standalone single
@@ciaran1344 I love Alice and how chill the vibe is.
Casanova wasn’t for me, this made up for it.

Hate me but the dark pool is generic ass metal core and this is something fresh..seems like this is the opposite opinion to everyone 😂

Maybe metalcore just isn’t for me 🤷♂️
