For the first time since I found you, I didn't know the answer to your bonus question. But, after the quiz was finished, I consulted Google: Terence "Terry" Pratchett, an English author and humorist. With a name like Discworld, I can almost hear echoes of P. G. Wodehouse. Since I didn't follow the Harry Potter craze, I "flopped" miserably in that category. Despite my very poor performance, I am glad you started the new year with such a challenging quiz, Sean.
I didn't do well with the Harry Potter but these quizzes show me had I taken the time to focus and pay attention to the choices, break them down, reason with each one I would have done so much better in social studies (doing my homework would have helped too😉). Gripe: After the first four segments, I bounced; as I had no reason to stick around for the Harry Potter segment. I would have been 0 for 10, as I have not read any of these novels or seen any of these movies. Harry Potter is not iconic Western literature. Consider deemphasizing American/Brit pop culture. Things like asking which two elements are key to gunpowder is more in line with knowing what is going on in the world around us. Modern pop culture is not a worthwhile gauge of what people know about the world around us, imo.
28/50. I think my rank is called Oppenheimer because I bombed. I'm terrible with faces, only fully identified one of the world leaders, did recognize one other but couldn't think of his name in time. Also I've never read a single Harry Potter book nor seen any of the films, so that was all blind guesses. IMO an entire section dedicated to a specialized area of pop culture doesn't belong on a "general" knowledge quiz, these type questions should go into their own specialized quiz.
