    Another nice video Cal. I have to say the line lay on your reel looks awful, no wonder you get wind knots. Good rod rings, good braid and reel means zero wind knots, all season.

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад

      Thanks. I literally hardly ever get wind knots. This is different braid to what I’ve been using. I normally use Daiwa J Braid which rarely knots. This stuff was lighter varivas braid. I fished in a 25mph cross wind the day before with my brother and that’s where the original knot came from. I managed to untangle it after this session in the video. I agree with you, the right braid, low diameter, good rod rings and a good reel will prevent that happening loads. Thanks for watching 👍🏼

    Hi Cal - good video. I read somewhere recently that the trick to help reduce wind knots in braid is to pour water over the spool (bottle of fresh water ideally) to wet it before you start. I have tried and and it seems to help, maybe the line just gets that bit stiffer when wet. I use spiderwire smooth which casts well but is prone to wind knots. So will keep trying this and see if it sorts the problem - I have had it ruin a days fishing after hiking a long way - maybe taking a spare spool is a wise decision?

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад

      Yeah that’s an idea worth trying I suppose. To be honest, I’ve not had many wind knots lately so I don’t see it as much of an issue (hopefully I haven’t just jinxed myself😂) a lot of the time I’ll shield the line with my hand as I’m casting. Wind knots are a pain yes, especially because braid is so expensive and it’s a nightmare if you can’t untangle it. I always have a spare reel in the car, I don’t carry it with me though as I like to take as little as possible. Fortunately in Guernsey, you’re never too far away from your car when fishing a mark. Thanks for watching and for the comment 👍🏼

    Great video Cal i'm going to buy the same set up you've got tomorrow, not that there's any bass along the Moray Coast where I live but i had alot of fun spinning for mackies this summer and need a replacement for when they return. Tight Lines bud the closest I get to bass is your videos or the fish counter in Tesco.

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад +1

      A set up like that will cover you for all lure fishing so it’s a good choice. It’ll be light enough to have some fun with some mackerel but it’ll also have a good amount of strength to handle anything bigger too 👍🏼 Thanks for watching! 🎣

      Thanks 👍🏼 Ideally you’d probably want some boots with studs in I’d imagine but I just wear wellies 90% of the time. I have Guy Cotton ones at the moment. My waders are pretty standard too so they just have normal boots attached. They do the job though, apart from the odd slip here and there 😂

      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад

      Thanks. Ive actually been using Daiwa J Braid 8 strand for about 18 months and its the best braid ive used so far. My other reel has the Varivas braid on because Veals sent it to me as they were out of stock of the Jbraid. Ive since got another back up spool. I agree with you, very little wind knots, its a quality braid 👍

    Another nice video Cal. Question, when loading braid onto your reels do you use mono backing first or just wind on braid only.

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  2 года назад +1

      Thanks. I back it with mono first yeah. I use anything between 15-20lb then tie the braid on.

    Hi Cal,great vid cheers👍have you had more hook ups with the bomb or stealth glide?

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад

      Thanks. I’ve been using the bomb a lot yeah. I’ve had quite a few bass on it now. That was the first time I’d used the stealth glide so it was fresh out the packet. It was too windy that day to use it properly and I’ve not been out since. It has a nice action to it though so I’ll definitely be using it more over the next few weeks.

    Another great video Cal. Mark looks like it’s got massive potential. My son and I would love to visit the CIs for fishing. Any chance of a rod and reel review as we are both fans of Penn and Shimano.

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад +1

      Yeah you should definitely visit sometime. I've only used the rod a few times so far however, i'm really impressed with it. It has a fast action tip so very good for working surface lures 👍 I've been using the Shimano Nasci 4000 for a while and it is an excellent reel. I bought the Shimano Sahara recently because i couldn't find the nasci anywhere in stock. Thats also a really nice reel too. Shimano reels are very well made. They're also a little smaller then other reels of the same size i.e, the 4000 is more like a 3000 etc

    • @rhyswilliams1413
      @rhyswilliams1413 3 года назад

      @@FISHINGWITHCAL my son has exactly the same spinning set up - Nasci 4000 (lovely reel) and Nevercrack. They are brilliant. There is a new Nasci out now so maybe that’s why you couldn’t find one - old ones out of stock and new ones not yet in stock.

    Hi cal . Question for you. Do bass take lures when the water is murky as I know first hand they take lures when water is cloudy. ? Top fishing as always.

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад +1

      Yeah they will do. It can be tougher going if the water is really murky but using something like a hard lure with a rattle or a soft lure with a paddle tail will still attract them to it. People will vary on opinions on weather to use a bright coloured lure or a dark one. I think it depends on the venue and conditions you’re fishing in. You will still catch bass on lures in murky water though. 👍🏼

    Also, what braid do you recommend ? Great videos by the way.

    • @FISHINGWITHCAL
      @FISHINGWITHCAL  3 года назад +1

      Hi. It’s a Shimano Sahara 4000. I had 15lb Varivas braid on in this video. I switch between the Sahara and the Nasci 4000 and usually use 26lb Daiwa J Braid. Daiwa braid is the best I’ve used so far. 👍🏼
