Another great video and fun to watch! Your solar setup is amazing. And you seem to be a jack of all trades.....very handy! Funny to see the Mrs do the heavy lifting. You and her go very well together.
Excellent progress! Starting with a small solar power system & generator creates a practical need to monitor & conserve power, while starting with grid power tends to promote excessive consumption because electric utility power rates are so cheap. A more sustainable community needs to be based upon universal acceptance of the need to monitor & conserve power, water, and other vital resources by the entire community. (Mainstream societies are not sustainable precisely because most citizens do not accept the need to reduce their resource demand footprint, and modern economies are structured to incentivize more consumption, not less. Which will become a fatal flaw during a century of rapidly developing global climate change.) Your use of 20ft shipping containers looks more & more brilliant with each passing week. With core community services rapidly deployable from two totally portable shipping containers, a small community or homestead can get operational & down to business in a big hurry. Plug & Play makes a whole lot of sense, and I hope others who are thinking about making the move to a more sustainable lifestyle will see what you've created and follow suit. (Incorporating a potable water system into the core utilities containers is another must have feature, and some sort of humanure septic system is also critical - perhaps one that extracts biogas and produces safe, usable organic fertilizer as well.) Much love from your fans in the US.
Great series of videos on your journey. Have you considered adding a small wind turbine and hydro generator to your system. they would help to keep your batteries charging 24 hours a day and on rainy days when the sunlight is reduced. A small 'overshot' waterwheel would be a nice feature in place of the waterfall that you created. It would give you the sound of running water that you want and also generate power. Great to see that you have your priorities right, 'A great place for a break and a cup holder'.
Hi Dave, really nice system you have there! If the breaker of the generator trips when you're using your mig welder, put all the extension cords that you have between the generator and the mig welder. It serves as a "dampener" for the power peaks that the welder draws. I have the same problem at home, but with a 50 meter powercord between the welder and the wall socket, that problem is gone, and works great :) (i actualy use a "haspel" which is still wound up, so it acts like a coil. Overheating of the "haspel" is apparently not an isue, because the built in thermal breaker has never kicked in). You can atleast give it a try, else your welder is useless :(

I don't know about Portugal, but here in Japan if you make friends with concrete companies, they will bring leftovers to you to "dump." If you arrange to have them "dump" it on your terrible eroding road, you could pave it. I don't particularly like concrete, but it is a way of making use of an otherwise waste product. You could also have them dump it into paver sized forms and brick your road if you don't want just concrete.
During winter early morning 9am to 11am you will get 3 times more power with tilting, 2 times more power between 11am and 1pm. Excess power in summer can heat water storage. Great watching.
Perhaps it's acceptable in the weather there, but where I live that setup would get torn off the container and mangled within a month. Makes me wonder why I live somewhere that regularly gets severe storms, frequent lightning, high winds, heavy snow, high heat and humidity, brutally cold winters, ...
Yah, just one severe windstorm can destroy those extremely expensive panels. It's best to study the last 100 years of weather history in order to appropriately ruggedize the mounts and frame against wind sheer. A little research can protect an expensive investment.
You may think about adding more battery's , That way when your battery bank is full can store more power then blocking .And the winter is coming with its shorter days. Thanks for the videos.al
He has a 10kwh lithium battery. For now I think this is overkill. The nice thing about solar power and the battery bank is that you can expand so easily or add a different source of power. He could just add the generator for emergency use.

Amazing effort, professional job, great result. I think you are almost done when you solve the drinking water issue. I am wondering that how will you figure out the welding machine high amp needs. You might need profssional welding machines in the future projects.
I think you've done a great job here. Very organized and well thought out. A question/concern... for the excess power going to the battery; I think it was ~80W when you were showing the computer screen. Since the battery is fully charged, where is this power going? Is it causing the battery to heat up? I'd be surprised if the system you are using doesn't have a mechanism to disperse this excess power, but was curious how it accomplishes that.
I'm not an expert but probably a smart relay that shuts off the charging power to the battery. The excess power, if not used directly by appliances, wil just be heat dissipated by the solar panels witch they can easily handel. At least this is how I did it on a smaller set up but I'm no expert.
Yes, the charge controller handles excessive charge by dumping it. You could think of it as a loss, but of course it only happens when your battery is full.
@@roedyhellyeah I hadn't heard this about solar panels before. From what you said, they sound like capacitors in the sense that they can store the energy until discharged.
