  • Published on Apr 14, 2026
  • U.S. Senator Reverend Raphael G. Warnock was raised in public housing in Savannah, Georgia and is the first in his family to graduate from college. Senator Warnock attended Atlanta’s historic Morehouse College and went on to receive his doctorate at the renowned Union Theological Seminary. Since 2005, he has served as Senior Pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, the spiritual home of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
    Elected Georgia’s first Black Senator in 2021, Senator Warnock sits on the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Agriculture, and Finance Committees. He has championed legislation to cap the cost of insulin for seniors, invest in our students and our workforce, and address the maternal mortality crisis.

    Leaders do not need to be rich, political, or religious. They just need language, caring and wisdom.

    "a vote is a kind of prayer," I really like that, even as a diehard atheist, you're alright Reverend Warnock, keep up the good work

    • @cmkv28bc
      @cmkv28bc Month ago +23

      Yes, it's like a prayer in that it is an expression of what one wants and ideally it's what one wants for all our citizens (e.g., healthcare) instead of for oneself only.

    • @cmills7308
      @cmills7308 Month ago +6

      It is a beautiful sentiment.

    • @rhondah1587
      @rhondah1587 Month ago +5

      @cmkv28bc For me, it's more of an opportunity to put voice to what I would like to see happen combined with a hope that the majority of others have the same aims for the future of us all. That hope has been up and down and trying to keep hope in my fellow citizens is getting harder to come by.

      @jamesmarchione170 Month ago +1

      @rhondah1587 I didn't mean to interpret him literally, I just thought it was beautiful language! My whole point was sometimes religious and secular people can come together with sentiment we can all get behind in different ways. I think we should fund education with a tax on religious institutions, personally. Every altruist is on the same side regardless of our beliefs. "Come together, right now." -John Lennon

    The gross national product does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages; the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials.... it measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile. As a fellow Georgian, I was so proud to see Sen Warnock show up in MN after Alex Pretty was shot. The mainstream media gave that incident very little coverage. Having a US Senator show up gave the injustices happening in MNPL more weight. TY! 🙏

      I wonder what your being a devout Christian has to do with your concerns about the horrendous White House administration? America, despite the Christian right and white supremist in America claim, is a secular constitutional republic - religion is not supposed to be a factor in how our government works. Sadly that is not the case - but I hope we will soon return to our secular roots.

    Thank you so much for this interview. My new perspective is there are so many forces trying to divide and all we can do to glue people together is essential. My local library has programs that bring people together and a nonprofit supplies us with free books for kids.

    As a former theology professor who understands "evil" as a privation if the good, it is a very fitting term for what the heart of American Christianity, atomistically centered on human interest (above and against the rest of creation) in service of personal gain (cultural and economic might figured as salvation) is inflicting on our nation and the world. A majority of American Christian voters chose this by electing this regime. May the fringe of American Christianity, represented by people like Thurman, MLK, Lewis, and Warnock grow like a mustard seed. May the rest of us make justice, dignity, and the integrity of all "creation" central to our ultimate concern or "faith."

    I know as Americans, our memories are often short or simply void of substance, but does anyone remember how frighteningly close his 2022 victory was over Hershel Walker?
    There is no true comparison in the character & senatorial aptitude between the two men. However, why could it even have been such a close thing to the voters of Georgia?
    I cast no stones, because my own southern state is confusingly red-purple.
    I am very grateful that Rev. Warnock was elected to do the good work he is so clearly born to do.
    I would also like to compliment the high quality of interviews Professor Richardson has been presenting lately.
    Thank you.
