Thank you for your RUclips page. I grew up in Monterey California, which is just north of LA by 4 to 5 hours. I used to go to Disneyland starting back in 1970 since I was five years old, My parents would take us to Disneyland every other summer… I do understand that the population of the world and here in the United States has gotten bigger, so of course more people are going to be going to these parks. I eventually moved to the Orlando Florida area from 2002-2014 and and now recently moved back to Florida in December of 2022. I remember an annual pass back in 2002 was $246 that included all the water parks and mini golf and now in 2024 I’m paying $1,400 a year for my Icredi Pass….I’ve been loyal to Disney World now for over 20 years here in Florida, I am a disabled combat veteran of The 82nd Airborne Division and served The Invasion Of Panama and The first Gulf War Desert Storm…My father, was also a disabled combat veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars both of us have PTSD and anxieties and I was just turned down by the video DAS program because it depends on which cast member with their script and their personal thoughts of how they want to handle and deny or not deny an individual with disabilities!
I say If they have proof people are abusing it they need to ban those people for life. I agree! I actually moved back to Florida having a house built and knowing that I was going to live close to Disney and be able to go to these parks, but after being denied after I explained to the member at DAS that I cannot be in tight places or in line too long before I start to have an anxiety attack and I was still turned down so boycotting Disney is possibly the first step, but it will take a large majority of the disabled community to remind Disney that this is Not fair and should Not be all about money!!!bottom line this is about money with Disney they have gotten so greedy that now we’re paying $1,400 for an annual pass if they had kept up with inflation since they open the park in 1971 when I was six years old, the American people right now should be paying less than $50 per theme park but this is about greed nothing else and that’s my thoughts and my opinion but Disney is going to get eventually understand the word Karma! That will hopefully humble Disney eventually when people cannot afford it anymore and they start losing money. The real sad part of it is even their executive or someone who represents their company have in resent years said that as long as people pay, they will keep raising prices so again it’s going to take a boycott or for people to stop paying these outrageous prices in order to humble Disney!

As a past Disney bus driver we were told that we did not get in the middle of refereeing who is and isn't "disabled" since a lot of people who are perfectly OK at 8:30 a.m. aren't so OK at 5:00 p.m. after a whole day walking around the park(s). We just accommodated folks on scooters as "part of the service".
It made no difference to me if I loaded two scooters or no scooters, I just took care of however many scooters were in the ADA corral up to the limit of the bus. I've encountered Guests who complained about other Guests riding scooters (that they thought non-ADA) being allowed access to the bus before the regular Guests but, since those Guests don't have an MD, I advised them that, if the Guests are in a scooter, I was going to load them. They mostly got it.

Universal Studios partnered with a 3rd party for their "AAP" program for those needing assistance with waiting in lines. This program requires you to go to your doctor and get verified, much like getting a handicap tag. Then they need to decide how many people can skip the line with them. Personally I don't think the entire freaking family needs to be able to group with them. Limit it to X number like 6.

Disney was offering a system awhile ago that allowed the person needing special access and up to 5 other guests something like a fastpass for all rides. The way it worked was you would go to the FP line entrance or disable access loading area and scan in. Than you would come back once whatever the posted stand-by line time had elapsed. It worked pretty well.

As I understand it, Disney is now differentiating between immediate family members and unrelated friends, with more limits on unrelated people. That makes sense, since unrelated groups make use of a disabled person. On the other hand, a family with a bunch of little kids shouldn't have to split up.

@@redtiger7268can't believe they used to do this, as a DAS user this is exactly what I've been saying should be done, you should have to physically turn up at ride like everyone else, scan in then comeback but no going on any other rides or shows until you've been on the scanned ride. Also as someone not taking advantage I would happily wait slightly longer than standby queue if it meant I just got on ride.

I have a Handicapped Granddaughter who was born with Cereabal Palsy. She is confined to a wheelchair, cannot stand walk or be out in the hot sun for long periods of time. We have been taking her to Disney World every year since 2010 at various times during the yearr using her own wheelchair that she has a real disability, NOT a rented one or a rented EVC. Taking her there does wonders for her. We have gotten a DAS pass for her every time. We only use it on attractions where you need to use a different entrance than the standby line to access the attraction like Small World, Big Thunder Mountain, etc. otherwise we use the standby unless the line is in direct sun. There is also a miscnception to how the DAS pass works, you DON'T go directly to the front of the line, you use it just like the gennie+ for a return time to go through the Lightning Lane line. Our past two trips to Disney last February and this February we were told she DOESN'T qualify for a DAS pass with her disability, and witnessed people with broken bones in a rented wheelchair get a DAS pass. I have also witnessed the abuse of people with no disability use this system in rented wheelchairs and EVC with large groups of 10 or more. . Now my Granddaughter will no longer be able to get a DAS pass. This new DAS system will discriminate against her and others with a true disability. Disney has NOT fixed the problem, they only created another that will probably involve the ADA and Lawsuits.. Disney is no longer the Happiest place on earth, it has become the GREEDIEST place on earth.

It sounds like, from what you describe that DAS is like Genie+ with the only difference being that you walk up to the queue to get your return time vs doing it ahead of time in the app. If that’s the case I can see why Disney is making it harder to access. It pushed DAS users to buy Genie+ or Lightening Lanes to access the same benefit they were receiving before for free. Not saying it’s right, just saying I can see where there greed is coming in.

The core of this issue is that Disney is way overcrowding their parks. They have the technology to keep every single person out of line if they wanted to do this. They won't do it because they know long lines deter usage. They are OK with you not riding every ride, they prefer that result as you are then encouraged to split your time over multiple days. Overtime this will fix itself as more and more people will go and determine dropping 10K for a week at Disney so you can wait on rides that average hour long waits in Florida sun is not in the slightest bit fun or entertaining.

10 years ago, I went to Disneyland and I suffer from my debilitating chronic pain, 85% of my body due to a condition called RSD stage four. I went like I usually do to get the disability pass, however, they would not give it to me because, the supervisor and the worker decided that they were doctors and because they never heard of my condition they could not give it. I even had three doctor notes from the three doctors that I see and still she said that they could be fake. I never was so embarrassed and so Humiliated in my life by these Disney workers. I went and I told my friend and her husband what happened and she told me hold on. We know how to get to the pass so they both went in there told the worker that he had a mental disorder, and he got a disabled pass in less than five minutes where I was arguing with the workers for close to 30 minutes. I was the only one that went through. There’s two other people that saw me upset. Tell me it happened to them also. I went and called corporate in corporate said all work it will do. Some thing will investigate. They never did a damn thing.I will never step in Disneyland anymore. Now what happens to me if I was to take my grandkids

What they should do is eliminate lightening lanes and instead have a very brief handicap plus 1 attendee cut line for a truly handicapped individual who has a walking capability related handicap parking entitlement approved by a State. That person, 1 stay with attendee, and 1 other person from the group should be issued matching passcodes accessed from the Disney Park app. Their entire group [except for the wheelchair/mobility scooter handicap patron and 1 attendant] would be obligated to use the Standby non-lightening lane. Then when 1 group rep got near the loading area they show the passcode to a cast member who then scans the code triggering an automated Disney Parks transmitted text to be sent to the waiting attendant telling them to escort the handicap patron on via the handicap cut line. Families have been abusing the disability line cutting right in the past to have their entire group to avoid using the Standby Lane.

Disney said DAS has increased three folds since the introduction of Genie Plus system. Of course it would grow since the fastpass system was taken away. Many people with disabilities didn’t need DAS since fast-passes were free. There is not a high number abuse, it’s just that the fast-pass system doesn’t exist resulting people people with disabilities to now take advantage of DAS. Go back with the old system, and the DAS request will go back to now numbers.

That’s the right case. I highly suspect it is not an issue of fraud increasing but rather that people who previously WOULD have been eligible for DAS but didn’t get one because the free fast pass system allowed them a tool to manage their needs without special consideration. I’m in this cohort myself. I would have been eligible for DAS for the past 10 years but never requested one because there were free tools I could use whether paper fast pass or book ahead fast pass to be accommodated.

After seeing all of the youyube video about getting DAS, I can see how the program was abused. Renting a scooter for my visit certainly helped me. Gentlemen, I love your content and your point of view, but I have to disagree with you on this. As someone who spent over 100 days in the parks last year, has navigated the parks with someone with a physical disability, and who also has an autistic child, I have to cry foul at the protests of people like Savannah. There are very few physical disabilities that would preclude someone from navigating the parks and rides with either a wheelchair or ECV. Having spent 20 days in the park last year with someone who needed double knee replacement, I can say without equivocation that almost every ride is easily accessible for those in a conveyance vehicle or wheelchair. Let us not forget that DAS does not mean you don't have to wait just like everyone else. If the wait is 120 minutes, a DAS rider will still have to wait about 120 minutes to ride, but generally only about 10-20 minutes of that is in a line. As it is now, with the serious over abuse of DAS contributing to overcrowded Lightning Lanes, we still end up skipping rides with our autistic son, because there are times when rides like Ratitouille have lightning lane waits of 30-45 minutes on occasion. While I agree that some disabilities other than autism, such as PTSD, may need to utilize DAS, I do not agree that most physical disabilities, and especially not a painful ankle, necessitate special accommodation when wheelchairs and ECV's are very heavily accommodated.

My family has used DAS in the past and we've seen some obvious abuses of the system. We've also had very abusive comments made towards us while using the DAS pass. Both situations are sad considering we have a child with a physical disability that exclusively uses a wheelchair for their mobility needs. Our other child has a cognitive/behavioral disability which presents another set of needs. For our family daily life is a challenge let alone navigating a theme park. We've enjoyed and appreciated the benefits of a DAS pass but due to the current changes we no longer feel we can risk planning a trip to Disney World only to be denied a DAS pass which would extremely complicate our ability to enjoy the Disney World parks.

Disney has made it all about how to soak the paying public for every cent they can get - and the Lightning Lane system is a prime example. You're already paying outrageous lodging (no matter where you stay if it's within a few miles of the parks), outrageous prices for food and drinks, souvenirs are pricey, and now they push the LL. I've got a bad ankle and two bad knees (and have the wallet card for my parking pass), but it was such a hassle last time we were at DL to get any kind of pass that I just said piss on it. We used to go almost every year - we haven't been back in 3 years, and it's not looking like we would go back anytime soon because of the extra prices.

What if that MOBILITY issue can be accommodated by me if I rent a wheelchair or a scooter?
I can’t stand for very long. That severely affects my ability to walk around the parks all day. I use a wheelchair in the parks. I’m 100% certain I shouldn’t qualify for DAS due to my MOBILITY issue. I don’t understand why Disney doesn’t just require people to show a disabled parking placard IDENTIFICATION CARD to get a DAS Pass. It would prove the person has a proven disability or mobility problem since each state requires a doctors note to be given one and it has the persons name and birthdate so people couldn’t swipe their grandmothers. I’m not taking about the placard, I’m talking about the ID card that comes with the placard you can show as proof that the placard belongs to you if an official asks for it. Kids have them for their parents cars, people who don’t drive have them for their caretakers cars. It wouldn’t take care of all of the DAS Pass problems but at least it would be a start.

If you have arthritis in one ankle and can handle walking the entire park and are able to get on all the rides, how are you magically unable to stand in the lines? I understand the need for a pass, but if a person says they are doing the entire park and every ride, and can do all of it except stand in line, I get suspicious.

I don't know about blanket policies or this lady's specific situation. When I was at Disney World back in the late nineties I did stand in line for some ride with a fellow in a wheelchair. It appeared that MS or some neuro disease had claimed his physical ability, and his wife pushed him through the line with the family. Just sayin, it can be done, those people can be accommodated fairly. The point is that anytime any system is set up with "special rights and privileges" for anyone, out from the woodwork like termites come the societal leeches to abuse that system. And pay to play for those special rights and privileges is a horrible set up. It's as if all authority in this world has decided to infuriate as many people as they possibly can these days, with little logic to any of it.

Almost all lines at Disney World are compatible with wheelchairs, and they have accommodations at every ride in Disneyland for them, even the old ones. Do I love the way people look at me? No. But at least I can enjoy the parks with my family. DAS was always meant for other disabilities besides physical ones that could be accommodated by using a wheelchair or other assisting mobility device. The real problem is everyone thinking they need a DAS, even when other accommodations would work.

My call last on the DAS line was very unpleasant. If you don’t get in line for the video call first thing in the morning, then the wait is over 4 hours, and it constantly disconnects you. The cast member was less than pleasant. She kept asking me if I did breathing exercises to be able to stand in line, however my needs are both physical and anxiety. They wanted me to use a scooter, but the scooter is extremely stressful because people jump in front of you and it’s very hard to keep track of your kid while you’re not running people over. Last year I left Disneyland in tears because of the stress. Having to go to the end of the line for a return time increased the amount of driving around in the scooter, which increased my stress along with it. Our last evening there we got caught in the stream of people forced to keep moving while the fireworks went off. We were corralled from the Haunted Mansion all the way to City Hall-I was in tears and just left.

Welp, between this new policy and lightening lane, Iger just made sure that people with disabilities will have a craptastic experience. Also, Jonas, the amount of people with cancer, PTSD, etc that could abuse the system is much lower than the fully-abled that have been abusing DAS (don't get me started on pretending their pet is a service dog) for decades. The coalition isn't saying Disney has to give a DAS to everyone with one of those conditions, only that people with very real limitations caused by said conditions are now barred from asking for a DAS and they shouldn't be.
The last time I went to Disneyland 5 or 6 years ago, I was using a wheelchair and still got "the look" by a cast members because I can be ambulatory for a short period of time. Besides being treated like convicts, they even changed the Hotel room accessable fir those in wheelchairs. They recently changed the 3 bedroom in the Boardwalk DVC master bath. It not inly does NOT have a door leading into the bedroom anymore (which makes the master bedroom nit have it's own access to a bathroom) but the door, that can't be locked for safety reasons, opens to the Family room/Living room for the world too see you when you are on the toilet. Then, to make things even worse, the toilet and shower chair have been changed and Lowered to the point that I can't transfer back to my wheelchair because of the height distance. Plus, the shower chair is so short and leans forward that it makes it that I am constantly in fear of falling on the ground.

I'm sure there is abuse in every system but I think the increase in DAS users is due to fast pass being cancelled. In the past people with physical disabilities were able to use the fast pass system and schedule their rides around their physical limitations. And If they had to leave the park early or had to skip rides, they weren't losing any money. Once Disney implemented genie plus and lightning lane it left a lot of those people with disabilities who normally chose not to use DAS to be forced to do so. They had to choose between a system that doesn't guarantee guests will be able to ride any ride they choose, it is expensive, and it sells out a lot of the time or a system that is sympathetic to their needs and allows them to enjoy the park as best they can. Disney created this mess and now it is punishing guests for their greed.

Unfortunately you are obviously speaking from a place of inexperience. As the parent of an autistic son I can tell you that while he loves the rides themselves, if we encounter lines much more than 20 minutes he will generally begin to enter "meltdown" phase and act out. DAS makes it possible for us to navigate the parks in a way that allows us to manage his disability. It also appears you do not understand how DAS works. When a DAS ride reservation is made we are issued a return time that is generally 20 minutes less than the standby wait time. The 20 minute difference assumes that the lightning lane wait will be about 20 minutes, thus making the wait equal to that of the standby line. We still wait as long as everyone else, we just don't have to do it in a crowded line that can be untenable for him, but instead can find areas that are less crowded and easier for sensory people to manage.

My mom can’t take more than three steps without falling, so we push her wheel chairs through the lines and get Genie+ if we have to. What I don’t have is patience for made up reasons to skip everyone else. You don’t have to justify any excuses to me, I’m not Disney. But a screaming kid is nothing new in the parks.

I'd rather Disney allow the physically disabled over the mentally disabled. The physically disabled still have their sanity, while the mentally disabled range from those who are introverted (posing little risk to other park guests) to extroverted (who could potentially harm or kill other park guests if triggered). Admitting the mentally disabled is a huge liability risk for Disney and other park guests. Can YOU promise me that they are all safe ? Do you have the cash on hand in case you're wrong ? I didn't think so.

Savanna can use a wheelchair, good lord. Where has common sense gone? It is not Disney’s job to correct individual injustices. All they have to do is provide reasonable accommodations that result in a similar experience/like benefit from their parks that is enjoyed by people without disabilities. It is not reasonable for someone to ask to not wait in line because their foot hurts when they could simply use a wheelchair.

Remember what Gabe Newel of Valve says about piracy in video games, "it's a service issue" provide a service the consumers would find more convenient then what the pirates provide.
Same applies here. People flooded DAS when the lines became unbearable, and the service Disney provided was confusing and inconvenient.
Also let me say as someone with higher functioning autism, I would NOT be surprised if a big chunk of that increase were from people with annual passes and autism or similar and never saw the need to get the DAS before because they didn't need to ride EVERY ride every visit. And they could easily plan things out to fit their sensory issue needs.as well as use the handful of fast passes they get from the annual pass to work with when they needed it.
I can see many autistics like myself doing that the moment they saw guest service lines being so clogged up.
But with the way things are they can no longer do that. So they decided to go for the DAS finally.

The credence given to people with issues like autism over people with physical disabilities is a recipe for lawsuits. For example: my dad (has never been and will never go to a Disney park, but I will use his status as an example) has back issues. He walks great and when he is moving around has no problem. If he stands still for more than a few minutes he can and will have spasms in his left leg due to disc compression. Sitting is ok for him. Disney would expect him rent a scooter or wheelchair so he can sit in queue. This rental would be an expense and is not needed for his mobility through the park, just while standing in line. So, for his accommodation, he would have to rent an otherwise unnecessary device and incur personal expense. Why should it be any different for anyone else? Plus exists in the last people to skip lines. That in itself is a solution to a cognitive issue with standing in lines. Das should not exist just pay for Genie plus like everyone else.

I know just know I hate being told to suck it up when I’m in clear pain and limping all over but I have to accommodate everyone else. Who cares that I have knee and foot issues that legit get worse the longer I stand still. I can suck it up for those who say I need to accommodate them.

I have pushed family around Disneyland in wheelchairs while seeing Fakers push their friend around in wheelchairs not even smart enough too keep the $4 Ace bandage tight enough on their leg to fool anyone. I also have a developmental disabled nephew that wouldn’t have been able go to Disneyland without that program. With these changes I m not sure my wife could go again. Most rides built in the last 30 years are more accessible for wheelchairs and I’m glad that the Haunted Mansion is being updated. But I don’t see this going anywhere but a lawsuit. There is a particular attorney here in California that has made his living getting long standing businesses shut down no matter how accommodating the staff there offered too help him, and that is just one attorney 😕

I went to WDW last fall and DAS was a lifesaver for me. I even bought Genie+ on top of DAS because I couldn't handle being in such confined spaces as a line. Even outside of the line, I found it overwhelming by all the people. I think people should experience life as a disabled person before they make such comments. I would love to be able to stand in line if I could because it means I wouldn't have issues with developing friendships and going to events.

Part of the problem with DAS I noticed as a first time user is the booking system, yes technically your not skipping queue as your waiting line time but also you can book the next ride on app as soon as you scan in to booked ride so YES you can get on more rides in the day than other people, make people have to physically go to rides to scan in and this would possibly stop some of the people taking advantage because they wouldn't be getting on the ride any quicker, possibly slower because the LL is not always straight on sometimes it's still a bit of a wait and going in standby lane would have been quicker.
