Some of the rear-engined cars have cradles and are designed for the whole engine to be dropped out the back for service so it might not be too bad, drop the cradle, lift the old engine out, put the new engine in, bolt the cradle back in ready to grenade another day.
It’s even simpler then this, I just did this on mine. You DO NOT have to remove wipers or cowl. And you DO NOT have to remove struts. Unclip lower strut connection and move it out of the way. Use something to hold the hood up. I used a few bungees at the striker and attached the other end to my garage door motor mount. Have someone help you lift up on the cowl while pulling the frunk out. And then have them help with holding it up while sliding the frunk back in. Takes 20 minutes if you know what you’re doing.
I didn't take the wipers or plastic trim below the windscreen off to do mine. I released one strut and propped the trim up on some pieces of wood just enough to pull the trunk out.
Thanks.. I wasn't quite clear how to get the hood latch out until watching your vid. I couldn't get one of my wiper arms off, but you can take out the frunk without removing that back panel, though it is a bit more of a pain, especially doing solo. PS, that battery is frikkin HUGE (as well as heavy!) Am I the only weight weenie that really didn't want to put any of that trim stuff back or tools back in? lol
You need to program the battery with a VCDS cable. The instructional videos are online. The R8 is like an iphone. It knows when your battery is getting depleted, and charges appropriately. So when you get a new battery you need to register the new battery with the ECU. This includes the mAh, battery type, etc.
At 6:09, you see your aftermarket positive wire fixed to your stock positive battery connector. Can you briefly explain how you fixed your aftermarket positive connector to your stock positive battery connector? Is it just a ring terminal fixed in place by a nut that tightens the stock positive connector?
I'm not sure if this should also happen with an R8, but with other Audi models you have to program (or registrate) the battery in the ecu. Battery coding can be done with VCDS or ODIS.
Only $239? Wow. My 7 series battery was like $500+. My Tesla main battery was replaced last year...and that was... well free under warranty! That is a good price though.
Because you have to remove the wipers to remove the battery, I would use anti-seize on the wipers. Next time your battery dies you will have a much easier time with the wipers.
My 02 A4 1.8t was stupid cheap to maintain lol. I loved and hated that car. I'm so anti VW because of how bad they are reliable wise but I love them at the same time.
When you said it was $250 for a battery and it wasnt that bad of a price, i thought it was a gell cell. Then i saw it was a regular lead acid one and thought thats not a good deal, then i saw how big the fucker is! Damn bro you sent me through a loop 3 times in 12 minute! Good video! I haven't been this suprised with a video since chrisfix's prius battery swap write up...
where do I find the back story on the R8? I thought I have been calm about my 6 month 335d rebuild. You seem way to relaxed about having an R8 sitting in the garage
I had to do this on mine and just ended up dragging it to the dealer the guy said the cars computer has a small battery inside that saves the settings and everything and sure enough it saved everything even my radio stations
@@generatorjohn4537 The trouble is John, I drive a VW Golf 2 litre turbo diesel. The parts are expensive, but a brilliant car. We do not get much in the way of American cars here in Australia.

JR hey what is going on with the engine? All these people ill stick with my Chevy... Lol theyre missing the point with this car! They think the battery is bad try pulling the engine! You need a lift and an engine stand!

What do they do bring In a battery and build a car around it? You going to leave the battery connected when it don't run?

There is a special tool to remove the windshield wiper arms.
1 Hour? For the first time not bad! I need 15 Minutes, you dont need to remove the wipers, there a lot of easy ways on the r8 :)
is there are video that shows how you do it?

i hope you keep that engine and tear it down to get a good look at the damage. imagine the views an engine teardown on an R8 would generate.

R8 battery change = balls + pain in the
The noise you're hearing after it's been running is a after run pump for the turbo's
gee all you should have had to do was open the hatch in the Frunk and that's it.

The irony of saying super simple after spending forever just to change a battery. Lol

Samcrac changed his battery but it was an Interstate battery I think with a VW imprint. Might be a different size since his wasn’t a turbocharged R8.

No, Mussolini as the chassis comes from the Lamborghini Gallardo... 😀
