The above funny line maybe somewhat in jest, but I did have a ‘very real’ confronting neighbourly experience a few years ago with a Pommy neighbour who lived only two doors down. The story goes it was around 1.30pm on a Sunday afternoon and I’m listening to Dire Straits ‘Telegraph Road’ on full volume and if anyone who has ever listened to this jaw-dropping instrumental outro to ‘Telegraph Road’ with ’Mark Knopfler’ on lead guitar, then they’ll know there’s only one way to listen to it, especially if you’re lucky enough to have super-duper high-fidelity speakers firing on all cylinders which will ultimately result in a ‘eargasmic music experience’ to be remembered.
So, on this very pleasant Sunday afternoon and me being in a full state of euphoria listening to ‘Telegraph Road’, I next hear what I think is a 'banging' on the front door, which I then opened, and it happened to be my Pommy neighbour from two doors down. He said to me, ‘Richard can you hear my television’ and a bedazzled me said, ‘of course not, what’s up’ of which he replied, ‘well, neither can I’, and then went onto say, ‘Richard I love Dire Straits as much as the next man but it’s bloody ridiculous how loud you're playing that music.’ So out of goodwill and neighbourly politeness, I never again was to have the pleasure of playing ‘Telegraph Road’ on full throttle and have a ‘full eargasmic music experience’ to be remembered
