      Great judge. The ironic thing is that Bundy actually ending up out living the judge. Judge died of heart attack in 1987. Bundy was executed in 1989.

    Judge Cowart died before Bundy ( 1987 ) i was 11 and my dad said he sent Bundy to the chair back in the day!! ;)

    I find this interview very interesting. Judge Cowart was a fine man. Knowledgeable , competent, upright . He stood for the law the victims all the while holding up the rights every defendant is assured in this country. Even that defendant before him , one that was a monster. Perhaps most certainly he ensured every T crossed. Every I was dotted for all involved. God rest that fine man.

    He died at the AGE OF 62 in 1987, he was 54 in this video . He looks like 70 , I don’t know if he was sick here or not
    Can you honestly say he looks like 54? No
    But best judge ever , thank you for your service your Honour. Rest in peace

      Yeah he looked older than his age no way I would have only said 54. The crazy thing is he sentenced bundy to die and died before the sentence. I like his personality though he is cool

      He looked 60 or so here. He has jowls, but his skin isn't excessively wrinkled.

    Love your archive videos. The judge is such a classy person of that times the 70s. Love or dislike him, he did his job very well and I love him for that.

      I love the one video where Ted Bundy has a cigarette dangling on his lips as he's exiting the courtroom . It's crazy how people were allowed to smoke in a court houses hallways lol. Different times I suppose

    He was the coolest judge ever! Seeing him in court my immediate reaction was that this guy is down to Earth and wanted to be as fair as possible. He could be assertive when he needed to be, but wasn't overbearing nor overly controlling throughout. In fact he gave Ted a lot of leeway that a lot of other judges wouldn't do. RIP Judge Cowart!

      I agree, he was very fair and navigated those proceedings with firmness and humanity. He took Bundy on face value and seemed able to park any hostility one may have when dealing so close with a viscous psychopathic serial killer.

    This Judge was absolutely AMAZING the trials with Ted Bundy.
    He kept it professional and was just and true through the whole trial.
    Dealing with a Narcissist like Bundy who represented himself I’m sure was difficult. But we NEED 100 this Judge today. He handled this court case so well.

    I’ve rarely seen another fair and impartial judge as this fine man. Most recently I saw the judge in the case against Chandler Halderdson, Judge John Hyland, who impressed me in the same way. He treated everyone, including the defendant, with the utmost respect and fairness.

    In 1981 I was a visitor at the Florida prison where Ted Bundy was executed. I am a 59 year old woman. I met Ted Bundy in the death row visiting area in 1981 at the Florida prison where he was executed. I remember that Ted would always stare at me. I remember seeing Ted's wife carol visiting with him. I am just telling about my experience meeting Ted Bundy in that death row visiting area in 1981 at the Florida prison where he was executed.

    Not to take away from the horrid thing this person did, but I wasn’t born until 1980. I stopped this and had to rewind it three times to make sure what I thought I saw when I saw him light up a cigarette was really. I’ve never seen anyone light up like that before a meeting or announcement. Wow

      It's a pipe the judge is smoking but this was super common back then. Practically Everyone smoked cigarettes and smoked them anywhere and everywhere.

    Wow. That a presiding judge would agree to sit for a press conference with a case that was still fresh and appeals pending, is something you don't see very often. Judges rarely talk to the press and when they do, they tend to speak in very broad, general terms precisely because of what Judge Cowart said in this video, that there were appeals in the pipeline, and he referred the press to his ruling, etc. He seemed like a very fair-minded judge even when he sentenced Bundy.

    Judge Cowart was a nice guy. Maybe a little too nice. Judge Jopling presided over the Kimberly Leach trial. Judge Jopling was my favorite because he was more of a no nonsense judge. He didn't tolerate Bundy's foolishness.

    Judge Edward Cowart comes across as a judge who had a great sense of justice,empathy,compassion and marvellous insight . Judge Cowart clearly gave Bundy his day in court. even Judge Cowart admits the DP is something knowone wants to face and took the responsibilty of passing that sentence very seriously .

    11:10 ish lol. he's like a professor that is happy to answer questions, but not if you weren't paying attention during the lecture. seems a likeable character. Bundy was lucky to "peform" before him. And I really liked how he made sure to point out that Bundy was NOT a lawyer. Not even really close. But still articulate.

    Are we sure this occured in 1979 ? Judge Cowart's hair here looks a little bit more discoloured, and grey whereas during the trial his hair was much darker... maybe it's just me.

    I would find it very hard to sentence anyone to death even someone like Bundy. Interesting to compare him to the hysterical, over emotional judge in the Nikolas Cruz trial.

    The judge was a disgrace, praising Bundy and telling him that he would have liked to have worked with him. What about telling Bundy how hideous he was, how he destroyed people’s lives and deserved all that was coming to him.

    Why can't we get judges like this on the supreme Court? Instead we get dirtbags like Thomas and Kavanaugh. A man like Cowart would never accept gifts from Harlan Crowe or anyone else petitioning his court.
    I guess a guy like Cowart, a man of this character, doesn't brown nose and suck up to the point that It takes to go that high in the judiciary.
