I started replaying Tomb Raider (2013) yesterday. At one point I was climbing over some open ocean and fell into the water. I was expecting the standard ragdoll death animation, but instead it gave me a scene of Lara falling into the depths below and being slammed into some sharp coral and jagged rusty metal by the powerful ocean current. This game is brutal when it wants to be, man. Also when you die in combat, you can hear enemies *celebrating your death*
Panzer Man I actually find the deaths in the game to be hilaruous. Acording to the voice actress, she had to come with so many different screams of agony for all of the random ways u can die
Yeah, I'd imagine so. I never got that impression though, cause I only heard the same few over and over again after falling to my death 100 times trying to collect all those damn GPS caches. My favorite death is when you're sliding down the river and you can impale yourself on a long spike. It goes through your head all the way, and Lara struggles for a bit before dying. You'd probably die instantly in real life, but that death still gets me anxious if I know it's coming. It's just so horrific in the best way.

To be entirely honest, the only Death on here that's any sort of scary is the ones from The Darkness. It's pure existential dread, because while you have the decayed and warped faces of all your friends and loved ones, the darkness *promises* you that you're not dead yet, It'll keep you alive for as long as it wants to and you have nothing you can do about it. It's a complete I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream scenario where the protagonist is not allowed to die, despite it being their only desire.
3D monster maze is surprisingly creepy given the limitations. Not so much for the monster itself (though it is a bit disturbing) but for the fact that the game tells you what it’s doing at all times and when it’s closing in on you. It’s just enough for the mind to create a sense of dread which increases the closer it gets to catching you. I find that more effective that jump scares. They create immediate shock and fear sure but it’s short lived and more of a cheap shot than anything. Of course sudden loud noise provokes a reaction.
@@harrietr.5073 Being startled for five seconds and being scared are two different things. You'd have to be under 12 to not know that. Not all games with jump scares aren't scary though. Just when that's all they rely on. Soma is terrifying.

It stays with you, some Jumpscare bashers say the silent variant is better yet they are both one in the same (unless you have hearing issues around loud noises, that's fair). Yet you call it immature you jumped to a scare anyone is vulnerable to. People get jumpscared by random things in real life. It is real horror, you just have to accept it scared you. I do, it get's me from leading me into a tense environment and it works. You're not more cool, masculine or badass from lying about how Jumpscares are dumb from them startling you, it just means they are effective. If jumpscares are lazy then tense atmosphere is lazy.

NOBODY KNOWS. His name was Leszek Blazynski, and he killed himself on the date of the photo. Nobody knows how Happysoft got the photo and no one's seen the original. Some also speculate that the date of 8/6/1992 could mean that it's the Eighth of June, not the Sixth of August. That would mean that the corpse wouldn't Blazynski, who died in August. Some say with that being the case, the body may have belonged to Atef Bsesio, who was publicly assassinated on that day.

Something about the LIMBO deaths really disturb me, the physics of the boys body being crushed and such just seems so oddly and off-puttingly realistic.
I don't believe FNAF 3 does have the scariest game over screen including FNAF 4 because there's no disturbing imagery behind the text. The one game over that messed me up was the secret death from one of the tomb raider games. I dont remember which one, but i remember what happened. It was the one where you find a statue of king midus, the king that wished to turned things to gold, but his wish turns sour fast. Anyways, the statues arm is broken off and laying on the ground. Now, games like this usually reward players for being perceptive and exploring, but this moment is where you realize what they really mean by “curiosity killed the cat.” If your exploritive self gets the best of you, you’ll find yourself climbing onto the hand of the statue, possibly to get a better view of your surroundings or whatnot. However, instead of that, you’ll be treated to a secret cutscene where you’ll see laura’s feet start to turn yellow and shiny, and then this change slowly creeping up her legs to her waist. You’ll then see her panick and flail as she desperately tries to free herself from her own frozen half. Before becoming completely transformed, she tries in desperation to reach out for something to aid her, but to no avail. Her surroundings don’t help either, it’s quiet and dark. Try hearing her scream out in fear and then suddenly hear nothing a second later without getting chills. What’s most disturbing is that the camera just continues watching her before showing the game over screen, showing you why it’s best to not be too curious of things.

My mind immediately goes to the game over screens for Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime Echoes. I have to say, as a kid, they were a bit disturbing. The same also goes for every death in the Dead Space games. Great video as always, Tats.
System Shock enemies and locations were so creepy that you literally want to turn it off and never go back. I did so when i got to floor where SHODAN has genetic lab. And about FNAF games, the biggest heart pounding gets not from jumpscare game over, but from fear of something being there.

I think a lot of these were exaggerated. Others were just plain obvious like five nights at Freddy’s 3. While I didn’t really agree with the list, I think you did a great job at the presentation. You definitely added the horror to each death the way you described it. While it didn’t work on me, I’m sure it made others realize how scary these deaths are. I think you guys did a pretty good job overall.

@@cpoao6807 well this list is about scary game overs, not scary games I agree with you that amnesia the dark descent is a really scary game but the game over isnt that scary really like when the monsters get to you they just kinda knock you out or something and you cant see much of what they do to you, however in the penumbra games that were made by the same guys that made the amnesia games when a dog kills you you can hear in the game over screen the dog fucking eating you, or when you drown in frozen water the game gives you a pretty chilling description of how you die, like it lasts hours with you feeling constant pain though all of it

To be honest, I kind of found Hitman: Blood Moneys game over scary. You can see the fear in Agent 47's face as he is shot down by multiple guards, and he can't do anything but fall down and accept his death.
You've never experienced fear until you've played The Darkness in the middle of the night, only light coming from your TV, and then seeing those images after dying.

26:43 I have a good fact about this one but this is a spoiler, so if anyone is interested in playing SOMA (highly recommended) please don't read this now. Simon (main protagonist that you are controlling) in a game have a few versions of his body. two of them are diving suits with dead body inside. those images that comes up while game over screan, are related to those dead persons (yep, there are two diving suits and two different game over screens). there is a some sort of a substance called WAU gel. this is this black "blood". it helps to create monsters like Simon - mashines connected with human bodies. And those woman you can see, are those dead persons inside of Simon. Covered with WAU gel, beacuse it would be impossible for simon to live in those bodies without it.
I didn't expect Slender Fortress 2, a community made, unoffical gamemode for Team Fortress 2, to be on anyones list to be honest. That's a really pleasant surprise!
I’m not gonna lie, the game over screen from Metroid Prime 2 PETRIFIED me when I was younger...the first time I got the game over screen was with the Bomb Guardian miniboss...but as I played through the game (and dying a bunch of times doing it) it eventually got to where I’ve grown used to it. In the words of the Heavy from TF2: “You are dead! No big surprise!”

It’s not so much scary, but I think the game over screen you get if you lose to Lavos in Chrono Trigger is worth mentioning. It’s not downright scary, but definitely chilling, especially when the words “BUT, THE FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE” come up on the screen with the Lavos noise in the background
The mirrors edge deaths always remind me of this one nightmare I had as a kid, where I was being followed by some dog like shadow monster. So yeah it chased me across rooftops as well and I parkoured like a pro for some time only to finally slip on the landing after a jump and fall into the Abyss then short of the impact everything went black and there was no sound no nothing really just a unnatural coldness and then I woke up. So yeah going after that one saying if you die in your dreams you're dead in real life as well, maybe I'm a zombie right now. 😂

Also imo, the eyeball surgery death is overrated.

I think a lot of these were exaggerated. Others were just plain obvious like five nights at Freddy’s 3. While I didn’t really agree with the list, I think you did a great job at the presentation. You definitely added the horror to each death the way you described it. While it didn’t work on me, I’m sure it made others realize how scary these deaths are. I think you guys did a pretty good job overall.

Lavender Town isn't THAT bad. Drought, Hall of Origin, and especially Ultra Ruin and N's Room (B2W2 version) are much scarier

I agree with you that amnesia the dark descent is a really scary game but the game over isnt that scary really like when the monsters get to you they just kinda knock you out or something and you cant see much of what they do to you, however in the penumbra games that were made by the same guys that made the amnesia games when a dog kills you you can hear in the game over screen the dog fucking eating you, or when you drown in frozen water the game gives you a pretty chilling description of how you die, like it lasts hours with you feeling constant pain though all of it

The lava death in Doom was pretty damn funny. What would have made it funnier is if he put the middlefinger up instead.

To be honest, I kind of found Hitman: Blood Moneys game over scary. You can see the fear in Agent 47's face as he is shot down by multiple guards, and he can't do anything but fall down and accept his death.

Simon (main protagonist that you are controlling) in a game have a few versions of his body. two of them are diving suits with dead body inside. those images that comes up while game over screan, are related to those dead persons (yep, there are two diving suits and two different game over screens). there is a some sort of a substance called WAU gel. this is this black "blood". it helps to create monsters like Simon - mashines connected with human bodies. And those woman you can see, are those dead persons inside of Simon. Covered with WAU gel, beacuse it would be impossible for simon to live in those bodies without it.

I’m not gonna lie, the game over screen from Metroid Prime 2 PETRIFIED me when I was younger...the first time I got the game over screen was with the Bomb Guardian miniboss...but as I played through the game (and dying a bunch of times doing it) it eventually got to where I’ve grown used to it.

It’s not so much scary, but I think the game over screen you get if you lose to Lavos in Chrono Trigger is worth mentioning. It’s not downright scary, but definitely chilling, especially when the words “BUT, THE FUTURE REFUSED TO CHANGE” come up on the screen with the Lavos noise in the background

The mirrors edge deaths always remind me of this one nightmare I had as a kid, where I was being followed by some dog like shadow monster. So yeah it chased me across rooftops as well and I parkoured like a pro for some time only to finally slip on the landing after a jump and fall into the Abyss then short of the impact everything went black and there was no sound no nothing really just a unnatural coldness and then I woke up. So yeah going after that one saying if you die in your dreams you're dead in real life as well, maybe I'm a zombie right now. 😂
