Nice i've just learned this but have to practice on the metronome to get the entire theme up to tempo because it's quite difficult. Really like your choice of fingering as it's the most practical i've seen so far on youtube and also because i'm used to play with gypsy jazz picking technique i can easily copy it, Thanks!!!!!
I learnt the head on guitar about 20 years or more ago but I was so bad at improvising back then I never performed it live. Fun tune though. You're really inspiring me back to jazz guitar. Thanks.
For playing Bird and Bud stuff on the electric I have sadly let go of the rest stroke method, or at least when the tempo is high and my amp is loud enough lol. I still use it but on acoustic I use it always. Means just that the style is different for me then. It's the duality of guitar. Highkey jealous of how you make it work here, great video!
the first phrase does lend itself well to other posintions ( 3 at least ) (for phrase #1) I find the first finger on the 1 -Ab on fret one position my fav. C Parker Oscar, Peterson, G Benson and see Stochelo use that on the 10th fret same shape for Fmaj and Dm I read one of your Stochelo's transcribe comments saying 'one of his fav"
Hi ! It's a Mile's tune 100 %. There's a big clue in the theme: the long chromaticism part on the Fm. Miles was doing long chromaticisms all the time in its playing. Charlie Parker used to play chromaticisms but way shorter (4 notes max perhaps).
I may point out some important details. First, you don't need to pick all notes. If course it's a matter of taste, if find it more natural and interesting when notes are produced with different twang and timbre. Second which is crucial for bebop: the accent is more on the weaker beat such as the 1 and or 2 and. that is quite uncommon for gypsy jazz. but bepop will sound best with contrasting accentuation.
@@ChristiaanvanHemert Maybe you will become a real musician one day. there is a chance. With my help and a bit of luck you can make it. I will look closely to your Donna Lee clips and see what I can do. I am very good with tiny details.
@Denis Chang, c'mon dude. I know you what you're after but you can't ask Schneesieber to also help you. Just helping me become a real musician will be a full time job.
This is young Miles composing Parker-style (before he went cool-jazz). Miles mimiked Parker's pivot-shifts and enclosures, connecting them with long and fluent chromatics. Awkward to transfer this brass-stuff to a string instrument. Impossible to play for most of us git players. There is a killer version by Guthrie Govan out there. Check it out.
(8:30ff) for the difficult Phrase 4 my way to get along with the tricky notes over the Bb-7 -> Eb7 -> Ab6 sequence is: Bb7 Eb7 Ab6 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------5---7---5----4---------------------- ---8---6---------------------------------------------------6----8--------------------------6----5---------- --------------------6----10----8--------6---5---8---------------------------------------------------6----- --------------8----------------------8------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ...it's a bit of a stratch for the c-note on the 10th fret with the pinky but for me it works quite well esp for the right hand imo. all the best from Frankfurt, Matthias :) 👍

Happy to see this video. I am currently transcribing Charlie Parkers solo on this tune!

Greaaaat man! Yeah
I like the positions you do this in better than the standard ones too
Thanks!

Haha, I'm just happy if I hit all the notes. I leave those kinds of details to real musicians. I'm just a lowly RUclips guitar player.

Guthrie Govan will own this stuff with economy/alternate-mix and it will sound more aggressive than Stochelo ever did even in his dreams
Btw, I love your content :)
Probably true on an electric guitar but no way that's gonna happen on a GJ guitar!

The limpest fast picking hand known to man. BUT HOW DOES HE DO IT!?
Donna Lee in Ab is pretty awkward on violin too. The solution is to tune your violin up a half-step, and play it in G.
Or just play it in G, let the others sweat ;)
@@ChristiaanvanHemert Use a capo on the violin lol
the fingering on this version seems easier to play on an electric than an acoustic. was having a hard time.

0:17 wrong notes, please correct my friend.
