- Today we'll be taking a look at my recently acquired JVC TM-1375SU pro CRT monitor! I've had my eye out for a pro-grade CRT for quite some time and that time has finally come. With more lines of resolution and higher precision circuitry driving them, they're the pinnacle of NTSC CRT technology.

I think people don't realize it but some of the older technology has so much well-made components that it could be better that's why I'm wondering is it better than some of the newer stuff
Back then TV was Made in Japan and most brand are from Sony, NEC, Panasonic, and JVC (Victor). Now a new TV is made in China and look like TCL, Lowsense, and Skyworthless Brand TV is getting popular here in the US. People these day must like not so well made TV. Samsung is still crap like it was in the 80s LG was okay though they were well made.
Early on as youngster I learned a newer is not better, when people learn to critically think and not be sheeple......well that's a whole other story
great lighting and cinematography. instant sub for me. great production value here
Nice grab! I also have a JVC pro monitor (TM-H150CG) and it's amazing. The high resolution dot mask looks perfect at 240p - just scanliney enough, but still soft and cozy. I like the look better than Trinitrons honestly.
I've never had a Trinitron TV that had less than 9 bajillion hours on it, so I can't really say which I prefer just yet, but I'm reeealy liking the picture from this JVC. Like you said, it's better but not too much better. The picture on my Diamondtron PC monitor is so perfect that it's almost like an LCD.
I want to connect my JVC TM-H150CG to the computer
does anyone know if this Plate is for this?

and which cable should i use?
I'm from Brazil
@@griffensanderhello can you Please give me contrast settings?
I just picked up this exact model on facebook for $60, cant find any sales information on it but im pretty sure thats a steal? Been looking for a PVM under $100 for years and now i finally have my own!
Damn, it looks crispy !
Amazing
Nice, mine is TM-140PN and looks exactly like your screen.
If i press "Phase+Menu" at the same time, it triggers special OSD menu where you can adjust the overscan.
Got a TM-H1750CG for free yesterday 🤓
Too lucky!! 🙏
one question, could you get an external rgb signal if you connected a transconder through the component or s video signal?
I recently bought a JVC TM-A130SU, some "Experts" says that it is not a PVM because they do not have the same number of lines as the TVL series, but personally I find it very nice for arcade games, I have another Sony PVM with RGB, obviously the colors are more vivid and colorful, but for some reason I always end up playing on the JVC.
I have it connected via S-VIDEO, could you tell me about your experience with this monitor?
Soon I will upload a review on my RUclips channel about this monitor.
Great video, thanks for sharing it.
You can RGB mod this monitor.
i just picked this monitor up anyways you recommended calibrating the color
Where can I get one?
For a Nintendo 64 would you recommend just using the HDMI converter plus the HDMI converter cable with signal processor built into the cable
Extron is lagless?
How does this monitor compare to the JVC TM-A13SU ?
Does the monitor not have component inputs? I could kind of tell you were using s-video cause looking at it through this video I could tell the colors were a little bit faded when compared to the consumer CRT I have that has component inputs. I would definately recommend RGB modding this, that is if you are confident you wont electrocute yourself to death. I'd never work on a CRT myself after all the warnings I've recieved from others about the risks.
I've worked on CRTs many times (just finished recapping a 13" Trinitron last week) so I could do the mod, but I'm not in any hurry. I can tell that this monitor will be due for a recap in a few years so maybe I'll RGB mod it then.
Also: working on CRTs isn't nearly as dangerous as some people make it out to be. Just don't touch the flyback while the TV is on and always discharge the tube before removing the anode and you'll be fine. I wear a pair of welding gloves while doing yoke adjustments so I don't have to worry about what I touch.
Hey, getting this lovely crt monitor soon and would love if you did a tutorial for RGB modding it.
Do you prefer shadowmask or the trinitron monitors?
For PC monitors, I prefer Trinitron.
For TVs, I can't really say. I've never had a Trinitron TV with less than 9 bazillion hours on it, so it's never been a fair comparison.
@@griffensander Yup the first Trinitron I picked up had 21,000 hours on it. Service menu didn't help geometry so needs internal work. Same with the 42" Behemoth of a Trinitron that apparently survived a bomb blast in Dubai.
@@lullylew9083 Kudos to you for having the courage to move a 42" CRT. My back trembles at the prospect lol.
In my experience, servicing the internals (I.E. Recap) can only do so much. If the tube itself has a lot of hours on it, it's just not going to look as nice as a tube with less hours.
@@griffensander Yeah for sure. I'm willing to give it a go. In general the picture quality is really good outside some geometry issues and still totally usable. Here's to hoping it improves somewhat in the end.
Great video! Can I ask if it was difficult to film the screen? What camera settings did you use?
It wasn’t too difficult. Professional monitors like this usually have a very precise sync rate of exactly 60hz, so you just have to set the shutter speed of your camera at 1/60th of a second. It’s much harder to film consumer sets that often run at 60, 61, 70, 70.5hz, etc.
@@griffensander Thanks very much for the info! Are you doing anything in particular to light the body of the TV without the screen catching glare? This is the best footage I've ever seen of a CRT
The body is lit with a softbox, and the footage was shot in LOG. I then masked off the CRTs screen in post so I could color-correct it separately from the rest of the scene. This is how the monitor is lit properly without the screen looking gray.
How do you plug this into a modern pc? I want to use one as a second screen if that is even possible.
I use the Extron shown in the video. And VGA source is compatible.
@@griffensander oh... guess i should have opened my eyes but thank you for letting me know.
Can you share any more info about your color calibration?
Sure! I used a Spyder 3 colorimeter with the HCFR software to calibrate RGB Cut and Drive against 30 IRE and 80 IRE patches respectivly, then I profiled the monitor at 0-100 IRE in 10 point increments. Average deltaE after calibration is 0.8, with the highest point being 1.6 at 10 IRE. It tracks gamma fairly well, but comes up too fast after about 70 IRE. I haven't checked on the color gamut accuracy yet because it looks good enough to my eye.
@@griffensander how’s the Spyder 3 been for you? I looked into getting one 3 years ago, but a bunch of folks on forums were scoffing at some of the specs. But I figure, for occasional personal use rather than a business, it’s probably fine? But I never bothered to actually look into it to confirm to just buy it already.
@@kaitlyn__L I've heard those complaints too, and I have no doubt that newer models are more accurate, but for what I use it for it works fine. I can't perceive any tint to my displays after calibration and the calibrations are always very consistent across multiple displays.
I've only found one display it struggles with. I have a 4k 10bit AdobeRGB monitor I use for video editing and it has never been able to calibrate it. It always gives very skewed colors that look worse than my sRGB screens. This may be a setting I got wrong in DisplayCAL, but I've never looked into it because to my eyes the monitor is already perfect.
The software it comes with is garbage though. I use DisplayCAL if I'm calibrating a PC and HCFR if I'm calibrating a TV. Both are free and work very well with the Spyder 3.
would be fun to mod it to RGB though. I think S-video is good but I guess RGB is another level of sharpness.
Any tutorial for this RGB mod?
Man, lovely piece but what a dropped ball on JVC’s part not adding scart inputs to a pal compatible set.
You can add a scart slot, I did.
great set, but pvm minimum for me is component and rgb.
That’s also the maximum. You’re missing out if you think component/RGB is that much better than S-Video.
I watched your videos dear... i was looking for best camera phone in Nokia's flagship for my small youtube channel = (beautiful craft 39k subs)... my daily driver phone is nokia lumia 1020 and my each video recorded through this phone... I can't buy any best dslr camera for videos due to money.. So that's why i was searching for phone.. accidentally i was found your review about nokia 808 pureview... which make me confident to buy old phone and test to it for my youtube videos and photos... Thanks... your are doing great work than me!!.🤗🤗
I love trinitrons because they bait the mongol hordes away from the real CRTs.
Why do you use this
Because I prefer the way analog video sources look on a CRT over how they look on a modern flatscreen.
@@griffensander why and why dont you get digitalized versions and watch on high end plasma or oled?
@@yahu5988 I have a high end plasma, I just prefer the way CRTs look. I also find it fun to repair them.
Why are you whispering? Lol
Bro why with the ASMR mic.. It's weird and creepy. Otherwise good review but I feel dirty.
