I use to live in the Bronx 8yrs ago and I don’t think the garbage situation has ever gotten better . I now live in Florida and It’s night and day when it comes to trash
Great video! Fascinating to learn so much about what happens to NYC trash, and how much there is. I am now more determined than ever to cut back on all unnecessary stuff and waste… and to recycle. Thank you Pubic Opinion and the NYC Dept of Sanitation.
Great piece! Cool idea to use AirTags to see where the stuff goes :) Unfortunately “waste-to-energy facility” is just a fancy name for incinerator - they only produce a tiny amount of electricity. The one in Chester, PA is the largest in the US and an egregious air polluter :(
@@publicopinionnyc Good question. I don’t know enough about the pros and cons of each to confidently say. I do know there are serious environmental justice concerns around the Chester facility. It feels like anything we can do to reduce plastic waste and all waste is where we should focus. Let’s make producers pay!
To be honest, if we want to make recycling a thing, all these companies selling the products should start caring, stop mixing of plastics, sticky paper and food waste,. Its difficult to recycle when there are a lot of restriction on what and where should go, but then we have all these products mixed and mashed and unrecyclable.
here in germany we have several bins for better recycling, e.g. paper / biodegradable stuff / plastic and other non biodegradable stuff and then residual waste like diapers, metal etc. I know it's not perfect, but seeing all this stuff thrown together and then burned or put into landfill, seems to be that the US has a long way to go. Uff, let's hope for the best... :D
i don’t understand. Online it says all of manhattan trash goes to essex county to be incinerated. theres no cut clear answer on where trash goes it seems
The boys are on fire

Thank you Hannah! I would love to hear more of your thoughts on waste-to-energy! How do you think these compare to landfills?

Nice video! I’ve had the privilege of riding on the back/side of a few rear-loader and side-loader garbage trucks. It’s actually kinda fun, yo💪 \o/

Landfills aren't actually that bad. The earth has a bunch of space where no one lives. We can just keep burying it.
❤❤❤
Ok but where do the subway trains go when they need to take a nap?
Someone should investigate!
