If the percentage of mistakes are that low then you should take responsibility for the mistake and pay them
If it was a misprint, I would think that the lottery commission would be liable, especially since they allowed it into circulation.
No sir if you read the official rules it says it’s not liable for fraudulent or misprinted tickets on their website
@@Chad121130 not entirely true. Many non lottery court cases have proven just because you claim you are not liable, doesn’t remove liability. Example: a car dealer has a sign that says not liable for items left in your car. That’s not true. Once the car is in the dealers possession, they are liable for their people’s actions if items are stolen.
The lottery knows misprint tickets happen and are put into circulation, they could be found liable.

This happened to me at the Alladin.
It was my first time there,
I was on my honeymoon.
20 minutes in, I won $22,000 jackpot ! The bells went off, for 20 minutes before a worker finally came over, and reset my machine..and said, "it was a malfunction." And then left !.....

For the slow you can't win a full jackpot amount without max bet and you can't win over the jackpot which is on the machine. For example you can't win 10 million dollars at the casino on min bet of 25 cents for example when the machine clearly says the jackpot is 12k and so forth. Regards if you play slots your a fool that's how casinos make there most money.
Now in regards to the ticket case it's obviously supposed to be 13 that's like saying you get a miss printed $5 bill that has a partly printed $20 on it. Doesn't make it $20 or $25 it's still a $5 . Yes it happens every once in a blue moon on coins as well worth nothing but what a collector would pay way over face depending on rarity. We can go through hundreds of other examples but comes down to common sense. Should they have to pay no? Simple has under the number different letters to indicate it's something else obviously misprinted. If it had one written out on both numbers and then they said it wasn't a winner would be an actual case. As they say lawyers are like leeches but won't fly here they just want attention

My buddy just hit a 25k jackpot at the casino we have been going to once a month for 3 years. They said the machine wasn't set up correctly. Guess I'm done gambling because you know you will never win but there is suppose to be a chance. There isn't a chance.
Maybe if Florida lottery is forced to pay this ticket there will be no more misprints. It would take a $500,000 mistake to ensure it never happens again.

I have done that all the time with my tickets and there was a ticket where I had no matching numbers and somehow it was a winner and yes I got paid out for it there was one ticket that was a $40 winner and none of them numbers match

They should have someone else read to them and then maybe it will become evident as to which meaning makes sense. Your totally write!! Their total idiots. It’s amazing though, because you can tell when they finally decipher the correct spelling of they’re/their/there. I scan every ticket...ive literally won 250 between 5 tickets that were 100% losers based on the playing rules....its a really bad problem in jersey

As crummy this situation is, he'll lose this case. The validation caption clearly doesn't match. His best bet is to sue and accept a settlement.
She did sue and the courts ruled against her at every level. But we had to remind them that this is wrong.

Damn .... I have thrown away sooooo many tickets that said they were losers.
How about if I say all my losing tickets were misprints.
The winning number has it in numbers and letters as well as the winning numbers. If you use a knife to scratch it can remove ink... or you have a scammer cut two tickets to look like a winner. Also ALWAYS scan tickets to see if they are a winner.
I always check my tickets they want you to throw them away they miss print winners as losers to of course go in their favor hope she gets her money

We did. The first judge was very receptive to our claim. Suddenly, he was replaced and the new judge ruled against us on all counts. The appellate court protected the lottery as well and affirmed judgment against the ticket holder.

There have been MILLIONS in unclaimed lottery jackpots in Florida. The lottery should have to pay the $500k out of that.
$500k is peanuts to the Florida lottery which makes BILLIONS.
The state wouldn't even have to pay the whole amount after taxes where deducted.
It should be up to the State to have to sue the company that makes the tickets to recoup the money they should have to pay out because of that company's error and not properly maintaining their equipment, poor oversight and quality control.

The lottery probably does this on purpose so some “top prizes” are are actually “misprinted” to look like losers and get thrown away. I’ve never heard of this happening until now. What a shame. It says on the tickets match your winning number and get prize shown. I hope this lady gets her money! Makes me not want to play anymore.. People in Florida should rally together and boycott the lotto until the Florida lottery or the courts gives this lady what she deserves... her $500,000. This story is infuriating. The tickets should clearly state that some may be misprinted to forget about matching numbers just scratch the barcode and scan to see if you won. Absolutely atrocious!
A older couple came n to a store I go to 24/7 and he ask the worker did I really win 2 million. Well he put it in his machine and told the guy it's a winner but can't cash it it really is 2 million. So he gave him a lottery form to fill out b 4 he left store and took picture of it and the people. Me and the store clerk followed him outside told him to get in car and have a family member take them to I guess Orlando or Tallahassee idk. But I saw it with my own eyes #14 2nd column 3rd #. They were not shaking nothing. Bet I would be, omg
So the lottery should refund the misprinted tickets, why they get to keep the money If its an error.
I got 2 words on a $2 Catchword with a 2x multiplier in MA...and it came up not a winner...it's only $4 so I don't really want to go to the office and fight them. But it's bull crap!!
What I want to know is why gas stations and liquor stores can refuse to give you the last ticket in the display case ..

@@JJKid-yw7vk sometimes, a blank / void ticket is used as a display for what the ticket looks like. The so-called "last ones" in the box are not always real tickets. I work in a convenience store, we get a sample of what the new tickets will look like each month.
Most of those lottery boxes have a display slot. The tickets that are placed in them are clearly that, a display only. They are not real tickets.
I say pay out! It's not the consumers fault that their equipment malfunctioned. Besides, they make so much money off people every day that $500k is nothing to pay out!

Unfortunate. But when you take the emotion out of it, it's easier to realize the lottery's stance. I would recommend they include a disclaimer that this well may happen. And as well there is a protocol and a three-point verification. And that determines a real winning ticket. That would go a long way in cutting back on such a calamity.

The number 3 was missing, the letters underneath say "Thrtn" or whatever short version of 13 is. You can see misprint....tough shit and scratch your replacement ticket. I wouldn't even fight that.

This is not a mistake.This should never ever happen. What if he had made a life and death decision based on what he reasonably believe was a winning ticket? What if he had quit his job after seeing the matching numbers? If Florida lottery officials knew of this misprint occurring, then the ticket should carry a “clear” warming on the ticket.

Most state lotteries have an app you can download on your phone to scan your phone to scan and check your tickets.
I’ve had a misprint happen more then once nothing more then 20 dollars, still… that is wayyyyyyy toooo much to happen in a publicly backed lottery system.

Michigan lottery does this ALL THE TIME. Got me the first time on a cash word for 100 bucks. $50 the second time on a wild time. Another $50 on a cash for life. Disgusting racket!

I've had a "misprint" in my favor b4. No winner was visible on the ticket, but when I beeped it at the machine, it said it was a $15 winner. Always beep your tickets b4 disposing of them... ya never know... and recycle the scratch cards, if you're able.

In Florida here I saw a man's ticket #14 it said 2,000,000,000 on it first time on my life. Then week later 1,000,000,000 a lady 88 yrs old when I saw these tickets in my hand I fell down lmaf. Week later I won 500$ 6x in 6 days. Touched the tickets gave me luck

All the lottery is fraud, they took the machine from retailers accusing them cashing player ticket helping them don't pay taxes, they not saying the retailer has to pay taxes and retailers can't cancel players tickets if the player refused to buy it

If you scan it and it says you won, simply turn the bastard into the clerk and get your money. Regardless, you should always scan your ticket at those vending machines they have and double check every ticket you scratch regardless...plus, depending where you live... a lot of tickets have "2nd chance" drawings that you can enter on their website for losing tickets, in Colorado where I live you can do that and you get a chance to win second place prizes.

@@HBK970 I work in a convenience store and snag up the tickets people throw away to do this. I have found winners multiple times because people overlooked or did not scan them before trashing them. I have also got some pretty cool stuff from The prize store from the points collected off the losers 😁.
In just about every state if not all states that have self scanners or scanners in retail stores, if you scan what is what you think is not a winning ticket but is, by law those retailer clerks must scan those tickets to verify it anyhow. So make sure you scan all your tickets, its very easy to miss winners or losers either throwing away winners or assuming it is a winner if its misprinted and its not a winner.
It sucks they found that misprinted ticket, but legally there's nothing she can do here. Even though its not specifically shown on the ticket, common sense would tell you verify that ticket or all tickets to be sure to not screw yourself.
That's actually possible because I bought a $1 ticket, won $30 from that ticket, and the back of the ticket never even have a $30 winnings on it. Plus my # didn't even match any of th winning #!. Crazy because the store owner still took the ticket and cashed me out and said that he would deal with it! The ticket came from his store,. Couple weeks later I pass by the store and they were shut down!!🤔
I bought a cheap tikcet and the numbers came off. I think the quarter I used made the numbers come off. I'm glad I didn't have winning numbers on there
