    Touch free is so frustrating. I wonder how many accidental exposures during the pandemic happened because of inaccurate reads. Had to visit brother in hospital and they took temp as part of pre-screen. After parking in the garage, waiting in the 90F lobby then walking a quarter block she said my temp was 94. The one I bought also reads 94-95 all the time. I bought a store brand alcohol free oral thermometer and it stays pegged all the time.

    I did NOT know that about the infrared thermometers! I have two different kinds and they both make me crazy because they are always so off from the last reading! That’s exactly why I was looking for a new thermometer. I’m totally jealous of your Welch Allyn!

    • @HospiceNurseAllie
      @HospiceNurseAllie 4 года назад

      I got it a a fair price in comparison to what they usually sell for- but I definitely still use my infrared as well. The difference in readings drives me crazy which is why I ended up with so many because I felt like some weren’t accurate 😜

    Hey! I am looking for a very good and accurate grandfather because I live with my grandfather and with everything going on I want to keep us both safe and healthy, what do you suggest is the best kind for elders?
    Thank you for this very thorough review! extremely needed during these times!

    • @HospiceNurseAllie
      @HospiceNurseAllie 4 года назад +2

      Something to keen in my for our elderly population is that their normal temp can be lower than a child’s or middle aged persons. The most accurate thermometer (besides a rectal) is going to be an oral. I use infrared on my patients for sanitary purposes; I use the same one at home as I do on my patients so I know it works. When looking into infrareds it’s good to take into account one that can change settings depending on if the room is warm or not, as the temp of the room can effect the temperature of the person when taken.

    Im one of those Dads that could often times tell by facial expression as well as The Kiss, when one of our brood, (5G, 1B) had a elevated temp.
    Thank you for your review. Appreciate you taking the time, while sick, to produce a video. I tested Positive the last Tues in Feb 21. Pre-existing Condx had me masked & gloved when going out in public. And double masked a week or more prior to DX. Just shows that no matter the PPE, or if its used, its not 100% effective in providing protection.
    Heres hoping ya had a speedy & complete recovery! Tks again for the video.

    • @HospiceNurseAllie
      @HospiceNurseAllie 3 года назад

      I had a mild cold; this was all precovid. But i agree that the kiss method is the best 😆 a simple mask isn’t 100% effective but it was never to used in replacement of anything; I think a lot of people get a false sense of security with a mask and forget things like social distancing and proper hygiene. I’ve seen people cough with a mask on without covering their mouths 🤦‍♀️ the mask was to be used in conjunction with other guidelines; but the only effective way is to not have contact with people as much as you can. I’m happy to hear you got better! Hopefully this will all be over soon! Stay safe ♥️

    I have the forehead theremometer and it gave wrong readings I took my daughter to the emergency room and they said she had a fever when the theremometer did not indicate it.

    • @HospiceNurseAllie
      @HospiceNurseAllie 2 года назад

      You have to make sure to follow instructions. I find it often will say you have a higher temp than normal due to environmental factors. I also read the packet and it says you have to wait a certain amount of time before taking the temp again. But oral is always the best route. Often times skin temp or room temp can mislead the thermometer.

    • @HospiceNurseAllie
      @HospiceNurseAllie 2 года назад +2

      98.2 F is not a fever and a temperature considered febrile is different for different age groups as well. Typically a fever over 101.1 F is considered febrile, but like I said febrile temps are different depending on the age group.
