    Building a parts-caster with this pickup configuration is on my list of projects. I'm leaning towards Robbie Robertson's traditional 3-way tele wiring, but I might go for a 5-way switch we'll see. I want to do a walnut body, black pickguard, soft v neck, lollar vintage tweed pickups, tele knobs just like Robbie's.

    • @Giant_Guitars

    Nice!! I have a 87 MIJ Squier, my very 1st guitar. Ive had it since new. It has the same neck stamps as this guitar. I modded it like crazy when i was a kid so nothing really orig except for the body and neck. I recently put a MIM Fender classic 60s replacement neck with 12" radius to bring it back to life. The old neck needs a lot of work and i hate the 7.25 radius.

    I have the same guitar I bought new in 1990, Japanese 57 reissue. Only mod is a single sized humbucker in the bridge. It was originally a slightly off-white colour, but has gone more yellow over time, but not as yellow as that one. The neck stamp is ST-57 and the body is STD-57, so I'm guessing yours has been put together from 2 guitars or maybe a different model? I'm a bit confused..I thought you were putting a hum bucker in at the bridge, I don't know anything about the Robbie Robertson guitar, so, does this work as before, like, you didn't rewire anything and moved the middle pick up to sit with the bridge. Silly question, but, does it change the sound of the guitar at all or is it purely an aesthetic thing? You kept the original five way switch in it? I apologise for the confusion on my part, like I say, I'm not really up on these things. The colour is lovely. Very unique as you rightly said. Cheers.

    • @Giant_Guitars
      @Giant_Guitars  Год назад

      Yeah totally changes the sound of the guitar, as you move a pickup position that pickup will sound different and the strings vibrate differently along the guitar - so if you have 2 exactly the same pickups and put one in the bridge and one in the neck they will sound different. Compound that with the fact I also flipped the middle pickup the sound is totally different. Robbie Robertson used a 3 way, I kept the 5 way to give unique tones in positions 2 and 4! Courtnay Music now owns this and plays it on stream 3 times a week!

    • @AnthonyMonaghan
      @AnthonyMonaghan Год назад

      @@Giant_Guitars That's really interesting. I missed the bit where you flipped the pick up, which I guess must change the sound/polarity? All a bit beyond me but interesting all the same. Thanks for the reply.

      Instruments are medias of expression just as art supplies are, if they don’t serve the purpose they need to then they can adapt, just as any person could
      You ruin the value as a historic art piece but fundamentally that’s not what instruments are, unless you just want something to invest in I guess, in which case it kinda seems like a tool that’s never used

    Late to this video…and the fact you mentioned Robbie Robertson means that I was correct in thinking that was the vibe you were going for. (And, yes, I believe that Robbie’s Strats had three way switches in them…at least, the ones he used in “The Last Waltz”, anyway: one was a Copper-ish color the other was a Sunburst as the backup.)

    • @georgeprice4212
      @georgeprice4212 Год назад

      Robbie said that he used the pickups in the configuration he did because he didn’t like the middle pickup in it’s usual location - and that, other than the modified pickguard to accommodate the new pickup positions, the Strats were also stock.

    • @Giant_Guitars
      @Giant_Guitars  Год назад

      Yep Tele player originally and didn't like the middle pickup position for his playing style. It's very cool to see! My whole desire to work on guitars is firmly rooted in hot rodding and modifying so I love to see OGs modding stuff back in the day, Robbie's bronze Strat is probably one of my all time favourites!
