This should be titled HOW NOT TO BUILD A CAMPER VAN BED 🤣. We had a low budget but we got my tiny home there in the end 👍. Join me as I continue my camper conversion of my Renault Trafic. @@Abeyptfc Hey Mark, I think they offer the best prices when you pay upfront for a longer period. Ends up being under £2 a month when paid in a lump sum 👍. I did the same plan about 2 years ago now 🙂

Hats off to you Brendan. When we're young with a family, we have to watch every penny we spend. I'ts so good to see you doing DIY, with the great help of very kind ppl, instead of getting yourself deep in dept. My hubby made all our furniture when we bought our first home, except our bed which my parents bought as our wedding gift and we bought a beautiful 3 piece suite for £16, second hand. That was almost 53 yrs ago, when we got married. Even now, he renovates kitchen units, doors and al sorts. I do bedroom furniture. We decorated and we landscape our gardens.We've learned so much by having to. We have constructed our current patio, which a builder asked, "which builder has done this stunning patio and garden wall?" He was taken aback when we said, "we have. " He had built us the extension and came across to see us 7 weeks after. He showed us a pic of his work and said "Look, this is equal if not better than my work," so keep going Brendan. Don't fetch experts in when you can do it yourself and learn more and more and save thousands of pounds in your lifetime. Good luck.

Look at all the pallets behind you. All kinds of free slats you could repurpose, for free, or not....for future projects....I know nothing about wood or building. In the US you can find pallets free everywhere. My son in law built his back privacy fence out of them and its gorgeous. Wood is expensive here too sadly. Anyway, how exciting!!! I can't wait to see what you get up to next.
Yeh your right, I did have a pallet that I could of used but I only had the one and companies don't tend to be that generous over here with giving away free stuff unfortunately. I honestly can't wait to get out in it now 😁

Brendan when you need wood have a look out for people wanting to get rid of old beds these can often have a lot useful timber that can be repurposed, this is true of other types of house hold furniture. Love it mate good luck with your project. Mashing stuff!

Brandon, what did you do with the old Bed/seating/table that you removed from the van? For sale by any chance?
Vans coming along nicely to, what I would recommend is sealing the bulkhead (under the bonnet) I’ve bought/sold/broke these vans for 20yrs, sealing the bulkhead will save you scraping the van over seized injectors due to water draining on top of your air filter and down to your head and injectors.. very common problem, there’s a RUclips video to sort this for pennies easy job, saves a nightmare in the future.. 👍

Amazing video :) Can't wait to see the finished product! Just a tip to keep costs down, timber yards are normally cheaper than the big chain DIY stores - I saved circa £150 by getting wood from a timber yard & they cut it all down to size for me at no extra cost!

It great to have someone give you a hand and it's looking great ,but I would think twice before using treated timber in your van, as a Joiner and worked with that stuff it's not good.

If you're taking those old trims off at some point to re carpet them, I would definitely replace that old insulation with some new stuff 👍👍

On your bed you need to space the slats out a bit more and on the ones that slide out put a couple of washers between the screws to lift them up slightly so they slide back over the wood easier when closing it back up. Also ideally you wanna be building the furniture last 🤣 your making life alot more difficult for yourself when you come to sort walls, floor and ceiling out ..... Good luck 👍

What’s the bus like mechanically ? After your last debacle with Renault . Have u had it checked or read up on potential problems ? I see so many van life vids of mechanical woes some of which are basic . How have you tackled the insurance side of the conversion, and do you after converting need a certificate of any type . I only ask as any modification how small is required to be declared any excuse so they don’t have to pay .
Hey mate, yeh the van is pretty solid to be fair. Timing belt and full service has now been completed and 2 independent mechanics have both said they are surprised at how good the underneath looks. Insurance wise, I'm glad I have a minibus to convert as it already came with windows as standard. Just explained I'm in the process of converting 🙂 no hassle 👍
