Elsa Joiner I assume you’re a wide eyed, dumb teenager who doesn’t know shit about anything. Y’all are prone to saying sweeping, grandiose stuff like this. I’m glad I was able to turn you around. Now go clean your ears
The Lemon Twigs have good taste in music and all the right influences. And I enjoy their music to a point. Unfortunately, their influences are sewn so heavily on their sleeve that they don’t seem to be much more than that and aren’t definable as their own unique thing. They’ve hero worshipped Beatles/BeachBoys/Who SO devoutly that they’ve left no room to develop and become something themselves. They are actors first and foremost and it shows. They are playing roles. Sounds like they’re doing The Beach Boys Smile boogie. This new record will be their “Smile/Tommy”. I don’t ever see them breaking out and writing from their own source. It’s hard (impossible?) to be original. The influences are in their veins. If the Twigs were 60 year old men doing this no one would be paying as much attention. They might have a few videos on RUclips and play the local bars. It’s only because they are young and cute and have Hollywood ties that they are what they’ve become. We can still enjoy their output for what it is-homage music.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Although, you can't deny the fact that they're incredibly talented at their craft and are one of the best live performers in the music industry right now. That's why I'd rather have them exist than be non-existent, you feel?
hmmm...whenever I see comments like this I sense the ominous presence of the Green-Eyed Monster. Art is to be responded to (or not), not judged. All artists are influenced by those that came before. Bach was obviously influenced by Pachelbel and Vivaldi, so what? It is part and parcel of an artists" natural development to admire, mimic, and incorporate the influences of revered predecessors on the way to finding their own true voice. And the Twigs have many more influences than those you have mentioned, spanning multiple genres. If you were a true creative artist yourself, you would inherently understand this. What are these kids, 20? Oh yeah, let's write em off. Christ, man, to be denigrating these inspired and immensely talented kids at the risk of alienating even ONE supporter, is, well, in my book, despicable. And reeks of a hidden agenda. Bitter people say all kinds of things under the cover of anonymity. Good thing they're successful enough that your wee little opinion doesn't matter.
