What I like about AoS compared to Fantasy and 40K is that the apocalypse, in many ways, has already happened. It is not so direly teetering on the edge. In short, the story can expand and grow in ways beyond - “and then they all died.”

A thing about Age of Sigmar’s factions that the playable armies are usually a single race, while in lore, the factions are very mixed, with some exceptions. For example, Stormcast and Slaves of Darkness only have playable humans, but in lore, includes elves and dwarves. The Cities of Sigmar have undead and orcs, there are dwarves helping out the sylvaneth, there are actual living people in undead controlled areas, and humans worship Gorkamorka. There are factions that are canonically around, but has no playable models. The biggest at the moment is Malekith’s people, but also includes chaos dwarves, a group of undead that are described in a way that sounds very familiar to the tomb kings, and the fimir, which are a destruction faction despite being chaos in fantasy

Actually the point of stormcast is that they all are reforged into a different body, they have aelvish, duardin and human origins, but they loose their identity in the process, this comes out in the lore where they have features of their own race but aren’t quite there, they aren’t actually human at all anymore, only celestial

So the cool thing about Ghur; if you read dynasty of monsters "the realm is alive" is presented as the land will randomly sprout mountains and gorges. The topography constantly shifts on almost a daily schedule almost to the point where it can be divined and mapped out like a weather pattern by certain people. A city was actually built on it on these massive pillars that held the city above the earth and no matter how it shifted around the city the city wouldn't be destroyed. As it expanded they would make new districts by connecting hanging platforms with chains to the city and the poorer you were the further down the chain you would live in. Very interesting design in my opinion

What I really love about AoS is how the gods act. They’re supremely powerful, whole civilizations rise and fall in their name, their actions can change the lands around them, but at the same time they are flawed, petty and prone to anger.
They really remind me of our own mythological gods (Norse,Greece,Chinese etc). It gives them so many layers and opportunity for story telling

This isn't that far off tbh. I think it was in the Malign Sorcery manual, it explained that the closer you are to a Realm's center, the more stable it is. The further you go out, the more wild and magical it becomes, with the very Realm's Edge basically bordering with Chaos. I remember that book had a few missions where you're trying to capture an Endless Spell on the Realm's Edge.

Getting rid of Felix was such a massive bone head move in my opinion. The books were always told from his perspective and more about him than Gotrek. Hell, they're literally about him, hence why the in lore books he wrote are called "My Travels With Gotrek." Gotrek might be more notable and the primary hero of the story, but having Felix as the narrator and co-protagonist put everything in a more relatable aspect of a sort of everyman wrapped up in events beyond his control that made the stakes of failure and success feel impactful, for me at least.

They have spawning pools onboard their ships, which became infused with Azyrite magic, which in turn allows the Starbourne to teleport around through the Slann. Lizardmen are part of Order, alongside Stormcast, Fyreslayers, and Lumineth, though that does not mean they are staunch allies or completely aligned with their goals. In Broken Realms: Be'lakor, a host of Stormcast was being rocked by a Slaves to Darkness warband and an army of Lizardmen marched past and, rather than aiding the Stormcast, they marched on and allowed them to die - they had their own goal and they were not about to be delayed.
As for their gods, they do have a lost god or two, Sotek still exists, and they also pay homage to Dracothion. Lord Kroak is the deity level character that Seraphon can field on the tabletop properly.

However, the more you move towards a Realm's edge, often hundreds to thousands of miles outwards, the Realm's lands begin to manifest more of their raw energy, with evermore crazy landscapes the further out you go.

With all my heart, I want to believe in the success of *Warhammer Age of Sigmar: Realms of Ruin* RTS computer game.
There is a heavy burden on the developers: they have to do the same thing that Dawn of War 1 once did for 40,000 - show everyone how Warhammer is really cool.
So now, for the love of Sigmar, all my best wishes to all who love Sigmar!

The Fantasy-AoS lore transition is like taking your old-and-loved 98 camry that you've driven since you were 16, and it's kinda starting to shit out on you, so you finally trade it into the dealership after like 30 years, and the dealership salesman shoots you in the forehead.
Absolute dogshit, top 3 blunders in GW history.

Currently exactly halfway through but I think I have to finally comment about this.
In the future, please tone down references to everything else :[
It's quite difficult to follow the video when it gets cut every 10 seconds to talk about a movie, a song, a book, etc. completely unrelated to the main topic.
Edit: seems to have gotten better in the second half generally, which I'm ofc glad for, but I'll still leave this up because I really like your videos and would like them to keep being easy to listen to in the future.

Maybe it's just me but it doesn't sound like AoS's nature lends itself to enjoyable story telling. Sounds great as a backdrop for a wargame though which is the intent.
It's just hearing primarily about the scale, power level and hearing "it's whatever the story needs it to be." Makes the character struggles sound like they solved by plot convivence rather than the logical plot progression.

    • @Jpipooly
      @Jpipooly Год назад +3

The grand story is certainly at that level and yet there are stories that scale it back into digestible tales. The story called Dark Harvest is a really good horror story set in the realm of Ghyran. Call of Archaon also gives a good glimpse into the drives of Chaos champions and the desire to serve in the Varanguard

Honestly, Age of Sigmar sounds pretty dope and I would enjoy seeing some proper video games from it. Problem is that the End Times is so bad that the only way to save face is to say that it was pieces made by Chaos Worshippers to try and act like everything went so well for Chaos to make them look good with reality being way less favorable for them.

To Mr. Nowork, I've just recently gotten into AOS, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Is there any way we could get a faction breakdown? I'd love to get a good feel for these but unlike 40k there's not a lot of content that conveys the information in both an enternatining and informative way. (Your Do or Don'ts are great, but I don't see a lot of AOS love in general)

The theme of AOS is cool with ever evolving plot and story. However i prefer the Old World and low fantasy to the world shattering destruction that happens in AOS all the time. For 40K the Devastation of Baal and Dante series is not matched by anything in AOS for story, also the Eisenhorn, Ravenor, Tanith First and Only are all series that just show have so much depth. The Seige of Terra series is also amazing. The new crime series and horror series are adding great depth thats not just Astartes.

@@arcahmwinters70 I didn't say they didn't but they are not as many good ones. But that is normal when its the same writing staff and 30 years more lore for 40K. For some they prefer AOS which is fine but I am explaining why most still prefer 40K.

Honestly this is AoS’s most redeeming quality. If warhammer fantasy is a fantasy historical game with story telling rooted in historical fiction, AoS stories are rooted in Epic fiction, sort of like the prose eda’s from Norse mythology. When I view AoS that way it makes a lot more sense why everything is that way, even if it’s not my thing really.

Any human or elf faction that has units on the tabletop that are primarily firearm wielding infantry. I've seen in some Warhammer total war videos that some exist in that game. I have nothing against a fantasy setting but I do like guns lol. I'm talking about basic infantry or elite infantry units whose primary weapons are like rifles or muskets or something like that. Anything?
