The actuator should not touch the power drawbar,i had it all taken apart and there are just some spring washers that need to be preloaded in order to pull the CAT-40 tool holders up tight,i dont understand why the drawbar's actuator would touch the power drawbar's axle. you can fix that to stop coming in contact with a nut at the top, take the actuator out with the 4 alen bolts and then make it have a right clearance so it wont touch each other.

Thanks, that's kind of what I thought too. It's the part of the machine I have not looked at, but the previous owner messed up a number of things, so it could be that it was assembled incorrectly too. If I had the right money I'd go all out to making this a modern machine.

yeah, I'd retrofit that with new servo drives, a couple mesa cards and linuxcnc. That control is just too out of date, and annoying for various reasons.

Are you sure that annoying noise is the spindle drive? It kindof sounds like a hydraulic pump to me - not sure why they make that super annoying whine, but that sound typical of hydraulics.

@@gorak9000 It's both, the hydraulic pump isn't that bad. It is the drives that whine, if I open the cabinet it's really obvious, just old slow electronics. Financially I'm not quite in the position to go all out on a retrofit, doing research into options as to reduce cost, lots of ways of going about it.

Hello Edward,do you remember if the machine must be homed in order for the spindle to turn on?

@edwardpage8346. We have an similar project going on in Southern Finland where we as an hobby project are modernizing an Matsuura MC 710 V . Our largest problem is at the moment that we lack the original manual and the Matsuura want about 600$ to create one and we haven't found any copies on the net. Would it be possible to obtain an copy of the manual from you. Also would you be interested in cooperating and mutually sharing experiences regarding these machines.

Hi Johan, sorry for my late response, yes of course I can send you an original manual and also a list of parameters. I have chosen to replace the whole control system but keep with the DC servos to save cost, I will also be writing it up. I'll be doing an update video soon, a few days away, I'll place all the links there.

Thank you Edward. The manual would help a lot. We have the current parameters already retrieved from our machine but it would be nice to have another set to compare to. Would you be interested in an teams / skype call sometime after Christmas where we could share/discuss our experiences a bit?
