I live in a pre-war building and I mistakenly purchased regular locks to replace my falling door knobs.I didn’t even know the name of the lock that I had to buy for these pre-war doors. This was a great help.
Brings back memories- my bedroom in my parents house had a knob that fell apart. I would be trapped in my bedroom. I kept a screwdriver to insert and turn the latch. I'm going to fix my parents door as it still does that 40 years later!
Oh my god amazing. Love that story. One of our closets is missing it's knob in our guest room, same deal, screwdriver until I finally get to fully replacing it on my to do list haha.
wow ! Thank you so much all my door knobs are falling off and I have tried putting them on again and go to grab knob and there it comes off again .I'am a widow husband passed away 4 yrs ago from cancer .I'm am going to try this wish me luck.God Bless
Also get a door knob that has a pin in it instead of screwed on. You can add it yourself if you feel like it, just drill a small hole and put a screw, rivet or nail( any piece of metal works, really, just make sure it fits and is not sharp) trough it. Makes it so it doesn't unscrew unless you remove it first. Have door handles like that that been around for more than hundred years.
We replaced ours a year ago when the old handle broke, but now we're having the same issue with the knob being super loose. I haven't had success in tightening the screw, but shouldn't these last longer than a year? I'd hate to have to keep replacing the whole thing every year.
Hi there! You can also find them at your local home center (Home Depot, Menards, Lowes, etc.) Here's one on Amazon that looks similar to the one I got amzn.to/3UVK6K4
Oh wow! We haven't had any issue so far and that thing gets opened a dozen or more times a day (the kids are always trying to sneak into the pantry for snacks haha).
No it's not what year thinking that's supposed to be ice cream. I'm going to quit using that symbol. No offense intended. My husband and I replaced the mortice locks in our house....We obtained the replacement from a locksmith in Europe.... That symbol stands for chocolate ice cream ..... 💩👌👌👌 God bless 🙏
We feel bad about that.... Glad I read your response. Those doors are beautiful....... Sad homes have been stripped of quality craftsmanship. Mortice locks have class and style. We redid the hinges as well. Someone painted over antique hinges. .... Why people paint door hardware is 🤔 Have a good evening. God bless you and your family 🙏

Literally the exact video I needed - same original knob I’m replacing with a matching one from Habitat ReStore. Thank you for this!

very surprising that I needed this as you make this video, very convenient.
Ooh. It’s like I read your mind!
Is there a way to add a thumb lock to these? Or do you just leave the key inside?
Yay to a new door knob! Thanks honey ❤️
This video is exactly what I need. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Hey I got a question

Oh I’m so sorry for your loss. You’ve got this though!

Good tip!
I never use a level to install the escutcheon plate, just measure from the door edge for the top and bottom of the plate.
ah good tip!
I want to replace my mortise lock.
Can i buy a new one and fit it or everything has to be the exact size.
These are all pretty standard in size so you should be good. But keep the packaging just in case. I’ve learned my lesson on other projects haha.
Thanks so very much
You are very welcome!

Oh wow yeah should totally last longer than a year. Have you tried maybe some loctite in it? Something like this amzn.to/3KqHSMC
@@MADEbyAP I was just going to ask this thank you!!

Thank you so much sir 😍
The problem is getting the knobs to stay on the screws strip in the knobs end up coming off
Oh totally. Mine were so old though I couldn't find the right replacement screws. I will say that the new knob is holding on great without any issue.

I've got one thing to say:
🤣
😂😂😂😂
Those door knob are absolute garbage we replaced ours with he exact same and they didn't last. The company had to recall

Painful to watch.
Technically un-informative as possible while having to endure corny cheesey personality.
But compelling enough to leave a comment. I call that a win!
💩
Ha. That good?
