As a Korean I truly dislike the standards of Korean/Asian beauty. Jinkyung is a great example of a unconventional beauty that defies Korean standards. Many Koreans have lost sight of different types of beauty and think that beauty can only be defined by big eyes and small faces. I truly respect Jinkyung for staying the way she is and I hope other Koreans will realize this. Her looks would be much more popular internationally because I see jinkyung as beautiful and charismatic looking as for the idols and other mainstream celebrities as cute/beautiful.

As a Korean person living outside of Korea, it saddens me to say this but your observation is not an inaccurate one. Obviously I know this is variety and so sometimes they exaggerate the things they say. Mainstream media and a lot of the general population tend to have tunnel vision, and they have a certain look. They don't call everyone else ugly...they just go over/ignore them and make a big fuss over people like Kim Tae Hee and Suzy. Who I think are pretty, but just that: pretty. A little bland, boring and not distinctive. I feel like this is even more pervasive on mainstream media than in the average Korean, which is a problem because media does have an influence on the populace. Young peeps particularly can be susceptible. A lot of kids in school feel like their features are not desired, not wanted, not good enough according to the standards. Hence the desire to change it. Which is sad.

I feel definitely that European men usually would like women to look a bit more mature. Women like the ones mentioned have that very child like face; makes them look cute but not beautiful, in a way that a niece or sister could be. In the view of the Europeans. (generally speaking of course; everyone's different still)
I think it also has something to do with the fact that Europeans/Westerners usually have mature features and are definitely used to seeing mature-faced people. Like, it's what they are used to. Like she is actually so pretty!!! she has a very good and long body and neck, her face is very symmetrical, everything is where it is meant to be like her nose is not too long or shot, her eyes are not too apart or close, her mouth is not too big or small. I think Westerners appeal to her more because our ideal standards of beauty are more different. Parted hair, strong bone structure, fierce eyes, tanned skin. Whereas in Korea, yeah you couldn’t walk up to her and say she was ugly but she doesn’t fit into that “by-the-book” ideal type they admire. Not to say she looks masculine because she doesn’t but I’ve noticed in Western media they tend to go for women with harsher features

I feel definitely that European men usually would like women to look a bit more mature. Women like the ones mentioned have that very child like face; makes them look cute but not beautiful, in a way that a niece or sister could be. In the view of the Europeans. (generally speaking of course; everyone's different still)

I think Westerners appeal to her more because our ideal standards of beauty are more different. Parted hair, strong bone structure, fierce eyes, tanned skin. Whereas in Korea, yeah you couldn’t walk up to her and say she was ugly but she doesn’t fit into that “by-the-book” ideal type they admire. Not to say she looks masculine because she doesn’t but I’ve noticed in Western media they tend to go for women with harsher features
