If the speakers are near however you still would have a hard time hearing yourself because the cheer/uproar from the crowd or the crowd singing along will echo together with the music bouncing from the speaker. Because of this, singers have a hard time listening to what's coming from the speakers to properly sync with what they're singing. Ear pieces have some kind of noise-cancellation feature where what's more prominent for them to hear is what they are singing or what their members in the group are singing. This is why sometimes singers without an ear-piece properly working sings late to their song. Try listening to Taeyeon singing "rain" live where her ear piece is malfunctioning.
