This surgery literally saved my life. I really through the Gastroparesis was going to kill me. I was miserably sick for a decade, with daily projectile vomiting for the last three years, and I am cured thanks to GPOEM. If your lower pyloris is non-functional and or covered in scar tissue, and your GI dr can test this, you can possibly be cured, too. This isn’t for everyone but dilation is a less invasive way to determine if you are a candidate for this. I desperately want for all of you the relief I have been given. Never give up hope. Never. We can beat this.

But isn't this only a temporary fix? After 5 years or so it is not as effective I read that not sure if it's true. I received my Botox shot on my sphincter on August 7th. After 2 weeks I felt better, 3 weeks I felt 75% better overall. I am concerned however that I still don't move my bowels. Like once or twice a month only. And this is strange cause im eating so much more. Where is my waste going? But I would definitely recommend GPOEM. It is saving my life also

I got GPOEM
too! It has immensely improved my quality of life altho I still have appetite issues (I use THC and take motegrity to help with that). In response to a comment above, I was told gpoem has 66% success rate and that in some occasions they have to redo the procedure if something goes wrong. I did every ‘treatment’ in the book as I too thought I was gonna die from gastroparesis. Just happy gpoem gave me my life back after gastroparesis caused me to lose a lot in my life.

have had gastroparesis for 37 yrs. i had a gastric bypass in 2000 and it helped me a great deal. sorry this proceure was not known of back then. it has worked for me but i do have to supplement my diet with extra vitamins and take enzymes with every meal. have eliminated beef, eggs, soy and seafood from my diet because they are so hard for me to digest. thankfully i am a good cook. i am doing well
What kind of gastric bypass do you went? Sorry if i ask too much personal thing.
I have idiopathic gastroparesis after a brain infection and after a year of PURE HELL being Malnutritioned 6 to 8 times. With Only 2 Dr's in the state of GA. I Asked for a G-Poem and am Miraculously getting 1 in 3 weeks! I CAN'T WAIT!

@RichRocketMan yes he is the only one in the state of ga that can do the GPoem. He also does the poem procedure as well. His staff I give a 10 they treat you like family not a number. I have a friend he did the poem procedure on. If you live in ga it is worth at least a consultation. He does Tele health as well. Good luck
@@edwardpower5009 Thanks, Ed. My wife first went to do a pyloric dilation procedure - to stretch her pylorus to remain slightly open. However, when they went in (she was completely under anesthesia), her pylorus was wide open. The doc couldn't do the dilation because she was already wide open. Therefore, the doc thinks GPOEM won't work for her. Would you ask your friend what her docs found when they first wen in there? We are wondering if the general anesthesia caused it to open. But while not under anesthesia, it stays locked most of the time? My wife has has a couple upper GIs inspections under anesthesia, and her pylorus was wide open in each. Thanks!

ob/gyn put me on zofran and it was like a magic pill always took the pill around 2-3hrs before I ate ended up with a tiny but healthy child graduated in May 2022 in college as of now super proud mom❤
Zofran fixed your gastroparesis? Sounds like it was severe gastroparesis! Did food just sit in the stomach for you? Intestines as well? Who recommended Zofran for your gastroparesis? Did they tell you why they thought it could help? Thanks so much for your input. My wife is suffering from terrible GP.

@Marcelo4215 non è vero. In Italia la fanno a Milano all'ospedale San Raffaele e a San Giovanni Rotondo all'ospedale Casa Sollievo. Credo ci sia anche qualche altro centro capace a farla. Ovviamente sono pochi.

Does the pylorus ever grow back after the procedure or is it more of a permanent solution?

I was told in some instances it can fold over causing the need to do the test again. The UCLA specialist I saw who performed the procedure said this has happened to him only a handful of times
I have gastroparesis now for 2 yrs. I mentioned G-Poem surgery to my gastroenterologist and neither he nor his physicians assistant ever heard of it. Do you know why that is ?

None of my community doctors were helpful. Only specialists really have heard of it (I went to ucla). It’s a relatively new procedure so that’s prob why they never heard of it (only been here for five years).

@L Weil pyloroplasty is made laparoscopic. G-POEM is made with an endoscopic like an enteroscopy.
Is there a test to find out that a patient's Gastroparesis is due to a pylorus dysfunction? Does a G-POEM also help in GP in general no matter what the cause is? Thanks
That is the key question! My wife suffers from GP. We too want to make darn sure that the pylorus is the root cause before proceeding with GPOEM. Common sense says if the small or large intestines are slow (for whatever reason), this proceedure would cause food to backup into the stomach. Then, you would have an irrepairably damaged pylorus AND the original root cause intestinal issues. My wife had the SmartPill test conducted. They told her her stomach AND large intestines were slow. Doctor recommened Motegrity to speed up stomach and intestines first. We are almost ready to try it. How are you doing? Any better?
Yes, your GI doctor can do an endoflip which measures how the pyloric muscle expands. Also, she can try getting botox in her pyloric muscle first to see if that helps her. it usually lasts about 3 months and then she may need that again. My 16 year old daughter is now taking with her GI doc about the G-poem. I hope this helps a bit. Good Luck!

@@geraldhoman6190 Yes. Motegrity was difficult to get approved by insurance. However, she is now on it for almost a year. She would say it PROBABLY helps her stomach empty a little. She is afraid to stop taking it, but it certainly doesn't do much for her stomach any more. It worked better early on, but either her GP got worse, or her system slowly adapted to it and it lost effectiveness. Everything our doc told us indicates has a ver good safety profile and doesn't stay in the system long. It is likely worth a try for GP sufferers. We are looking at a drug called Mirtazapan now. It is an antidepressant and appetite stimulant, but it is reported to have positive motility effects on the stomach. It might cause some constipation, but there are other ways to minimize that. It can be sedating, so I want my wife to take it at night to possibly help her empty overnight. I also think the antidepressant affects could help her get into "rest and digest" mode more frequently. Have you heard of this drug? As for GPOEM, we are not leaning that way yet. During all of her EGD procedures, her pylorus was wide open, not closed. I think this might be because of the anesthesia, but this might indicate the pylorus isn't the problem. If you are looking at GPOEM, check into pyloric dilation. This is where they stick a "balloon" into the pylorus (during an EGD) and stretch the pylorus so it can't close all the way. Less permanent than GPOEM - might only last a few months, but if it works, you could use this info to help you make sure the pylorus is the problem without taking the plunge with GPOEM. Good luck!
I got tested for vagus nerve dysfunction through the Sham Feeding test. The specialist I saw said that is usually the test along with gastric emptying to see if the patient would have improved life quality with GPOEM
After having this surgery does the person regain their appetite ?

I had mine 6 months ago snd appetite still sucks but improved. If you take motegrity then appetite will improve as it aids motility

Yes it is helpful even for postsurgical gastroparesis.

Am I the only one who is gaining a lot of weight with “Gastroparesis?”
No same here, I had to stop eating breakfast & go to only one small meal a day in the evening time just to feel like my stomach won’t explode. I thought my main problem was acid reflux so I got a Nissan fundoplication done but that just made it worse. Now I can’t throw up nor will the food empty at a normal time.

No..Not at all. When I was first diagnosed in 2015 I dropped to 82 pounds. Soon after I was placed on a feeding tube for a year for malnutrition. Here I am now at 167 pounds! Fargo pages is is a cruel disease. I'm scheduled to have the g poem done next month. Won't lie, I'm a bit nervous.

@@rhondaa5523 My wife has terrible GP. She us down to 104 pounds at 5' 8". Do you kind sharing your height? I'm just trying go get a feel for how low is too low for weight. We are trying everything can before going the tube route.
