as someone that had to relearn these after a decade hiatus, and get them the best i ever had at my prime. heres what i learned. you gotta be able to pull your ollies up using your front foot . Local joe has a great explanation about this on his yuto flick video. When you level out your ollie this in when you flick. 2. your ankle flick isnt as effecient as it can be. Sit down on a chair let your feet hang off. pay attention to two things. your knee and your flicking foot. do the motion of a kickflip. Does your knee move forward towards the nose? if yes GOOD. If no, keep reading. Now put flicking foot flat on ground and mimic your flick. Look at your foot that does the flick. focus on your toe. does the toe do a 12 oclock to 2 oclock motion(if goofy) 12 o clock to 10 oclock (if regular) The key here is: DOES YOUR HEEL COME OFF THE FLOOR? if it does not and your toe is only sweeping in one axis, this might be your leak in your kickflip. You need to think of the flick as a 3 axis flick. now lift heels back off the ground , and while still sitting , lift your flicking foot up, and point your toe down as far as you can, now point it towards your nose. This is the motion your flicking foot needs to be doing. (Think like if you you rolled your ankle motion ) This toe motion and your knee traveling forward ahead of the nose + leveling out your ollie =kickflip that sucks up to your back foot. 3. also try popping your tail backwards just slightly, as if you were doing a fakie kickflip. dont over do it, but instead of visualising popping straight down, just pop back at a slight angle, this will make your front foot grip the board faster.. Sometimes just doing this Tip alone fixes the timing on the kickflip as it makes your back knee come up later than your used to and just makes everything work out.
Great point about the double sock technique… you know I’ve never realized but i use fp insoles underneath the stock insoles of the shoes and it create the same effect, not too tight but it really makes my foot become “part of the shoe”
maurio. I also have a decent kickflip. The explanation of timing and space in the shoe I have been telling friends for years but no one takes it that serious. My approach to solve it is go down a half size and break in the shoe to keep it tight. great video!!. sending positive vibes from NJ!! from a kickflipper to another!!
Wow I didn't really take you as a skater who would break down tricks and be real analytic, but that was a lot of insight you don't see elsewhere! Definitely subbing for more of that.
@@debomb721 just from vibes I guess? A lot of pro skaters actually just do their tricks but not really know or care the technical details that lie underneath it all. Honestly that's often the case with a lot of athletes. There are the nerdy types who like to break every little thing down mentally that are also really good, but it's more rare to see, from my fairly heavy athletic background.
Woah this is great. With the level you skate at i honestly wouldn't expect a video like this. Useful information from a unique perspective, not just repeating the same thing that's been said a million times. Not trying to gas you up, but keep making stuff like this. This is high quality.
You have the best kickflips in the game. Love the style bro, always a pleasure to watch you in the contests & didn't know you had a youtube. Best of luck! 🤘
I would love to see one on tre flips. I can consistently land and get good height on them, but I always catch them with both feet. I can’t seem to get it to suck up to my front foot in the same way as pop shoves
lol ive been skating Mccoy decks for years without really checking your skating till recently, you rip brother, proud to be repping your board, keep up the grind!
It's super awesome and nice to see Pros like yourself giving out Trick tips and I hope that all Pros one day will do the same thing because not everybody will be as good as you guys and it's helpful to watch a video from a pro and figure out the mistakes way quicker and a lot easier!! Thanks!! ✌😎✌
Your style of catching the board and then putting in a grind/slide is so modern and makes more sense compared to the early 2000s when people would flip straight into the trick
The tip with the leaning back makes sense. I had a long break it feels weird to do a kick flip fakie. I am sure now I am going to relearn a kickflip fakie. Thanks a lot!
one thing that helped me alot with kickflips lately is putting alot of emphasis on slowing down my movements, naturally you wanna flick too quick so if you really force yourself to slow the flick it balances the timing between pop and flick way better
Dropping Gems 💎 Yet Again 🔥 Thank you Fam🙏 I just coincidentally filmed my first kickflip of this year yesterday, and now I’m watching this for the Einstein Etiquette 🔥❤️🔥🙏
One key thing i think is missing here that alot of people dont realize they suffer from is weak flick due to injuries over the years. No matter how much i practiced timing etc... my ankle wasnt a) flexible enough and b) strong enough. So stretch your ankles but also do rubber band exercises like tying it around your feet near your toes.. pointing your feet up towards you and trying to spread your feet apart keeping your heels touching together in that kickflip motion. You'll work out both ankles at once and should feel a burn around your ankles and shins. After a few months you'll have the strong and flexible flick you want,, then apply timing and technique.
Yo I'd be stoked on a vid where you go over all the little nuances involved with your skating, like the two pairs of socks. Idk if there's more but I feel like there might be and I'd definitely fuck with that video
It would be great to see a video of how to do halfcab flip noseslide/croocks. I am wondering about the angle, foot positioning, and how to get the halfcab flip high enough to do it on a tall ledge.
bro I never thought about the whole "focus on the catch" thing before, like I do it without even realizing it and now that I'm aware of it it's gonna be way easier to teach others how to kickflip now.
Good video. My two cents: Most tutorials suggest to lean back so the weight is on the back foot when you pop/scoop. I agree with weight distribution but I disagree you need to lean back. If you lean back board ends up in front of you at the end of the rotation. So keep your torso in parallel to the board through out the length of the trick but still shift the weight to the back foot. Took me two months and I actually had to record myself and watch it to figure out why only my front foot was ending up on a board while back foot always landed behind the tail. Usually tutorials for this trick describe the opposite problem of landing in front of the board.
DBC..Daily Blessings Coming! ... Thank You ALL for Everything, Everyday!! .... Thanks for the tips and advice. IDK if I ever Learned how to catch the kickflip on the way up, and my best was probably kickflip a 4 stair, at 14yrs old ,but wasn't going over the rail, I Wish Lol... Always Love watching you Skate
Yo I sware to God! I used figured the tight shoe thing out last night. My shoes are old and hella loose . I tightened them and just started flicking so smooth
Blew my fucking mind. Thank you for this. I never have been able to figure out why I'm so fucking inconsistent and I spend a lot of time thinking my shit through. So helpful. Tight shoes for the win! Always been a thing for me.
This is perfect for me right now! I just got done with 2 videos documenting me trying to fully evolve my kickflips into new territory. Progress is slow going but I'm taking all input and absorbing as much as I can. Thanks for this! And NIIICE kickflip
I have a kind of weird relationship to kickflips, i am pretty consistent at doing them on flat, tried it a while back and had 10/10 on flat, BUT they often are pretty rocket and dont feel as good as they should, is it just that i dont flick it hard enough to level out more? I love doing fakieflips on flat too and dont have that problem at all in fakie for some reason, they feel super good!
I'm a bigger guy, got back into skating after quite a while of not doing it, so I'd say my vertical is about a quarter of yours. What advice would you have to dial in my kickflip? I've got the rotation down perfectly but feel like I'm not getting enough hangtime to get both feet on the bolts.
Hey Maurio, thank you for the nice tutorial! I have a very specific problem - maybe you can help? So I have a very good height in my kick flip and also a fast flick BUT the board always tends to land a bit infront of me. I still manage to catch like 7/10 flips but while doing so I snapped a lot of boards right behind the bolts on my backfoot. Any idea what's causing this? It drives me mad, im so anxious to break another board that I stopped doing kick flips at all..
The knowledge dropped in this video is as impressive as his Kickflip. 🔥
Thanks!
This is a fact
What was the best part

So loose shoes = input lag. Got it 👍🏾
I haven’t skated in 10 years but watching this made me want to experience the feeling of doing a kickflip again.
The slowmo at 7:06 is somthing else! So insanely nice!
We’re gonna need more socks 🧦
Bro i been skating for 13 or so years and this video changed the way i look at kickflips for the better thanks dawg fr

Absolutely glued to the screen, so many excellent tips...have to take on my local qtr now, have been wanting some air there. Thanks Maurio!
cant beat a good kickflip where you feel it suck up to your feet, just getting that consistency

Thanks for the breakdown. Gonna try to focus on this during today’s session.
This title is funny ,its gold.
The breakdown of a kickflip is impressive. I'll take this as a lesson and use it to my skateboarding journey. Thank you!👍🏾

Definitely one of the best kickflips in the game ! Thanks for the video , I’ve been needing to hone in on my kickflips
The tutorial I didn’t know I needed 🔥
Wow. Great video! Subbed!
Timing and finesse for sure.
I started the double sock thing from football to not get blisters and now that you bring it up my skating does feel better with double socks
The tip with the leaning back makes sense. I had a long break it feels weird to do a kick flip fakie. I am sure now I am going to relearn a kickflip fakie. Thanks a lot!

I just subbed I have a really hard time doing kick flips and I’m going to use your advice! Thank you
The double sock shoe theory is almost spot on with why gymnastics/tricking/parkour works better without shoes or socks, the responsiveness is key
Yeah the double sock thing works good for a lot of tricks 👍💯 Nice vid
Thanks!
Great vid nothing like getting tips from a master at kick flips most pros that have a good kick flip should make vids like this
