Interpretation: School number 1 in Illinois offers things that Spurlock would rather they not eat, never mind the fact that the ones only buying junk food probably wouldn't eat anything otherwise, then they would binge on junk food the minute they got home. I don't know what they had in '03 when this was filmed, but in '10 they had a salad bar and other healthier options available (according to sodexoeducation.com, which you will not find because the company changed their website around since then, and that school is now with ARAMARK). School number 2 in West Virginia serves self-op slop which comes in frozen straight from the USDA, likely because that district doesn't have the resources to run a decent lunch program on their own (they need to outsource it). School number 3 in Wisconsin outsources to ARAMARK who partners with a local company (something Sodexo also sometimes does) offers this really awesome and healthy food, in addition to the usual school lunch. The conclusion is that outsourced is better than self-op.

"never mind the fact that the ones only buying junk food probably wouldn't eat anything otherwise, then they would binge on junk food the minute they got home." Except this has been tried in many european countries, and your theory has proven to be false.

@@robokill387 School cafeterias in Europe are sooooo health conscious that they give the students alcoholic beverages, gotta get that alcoholism started at a young age so the big companies producing the booze all stay in business. Why do so many people compare everything to Europe like we didn't break off from them for good reason? From what I understand from people who have lived over there, it's not that great over there.

@@davidmorris9871 1) only to students above the age of 16, and 2) what's wrong with that? Promoting a healthy relationship with alchohol instead of stigmatising it? I mean, the countries that do this (France and Belgium) have some of the lowest levels of alchoholism in the western world, and the European countries that follow a more US-like model such as the UK and Ireland have the worst levels of Alchoholism and excessive teenage drinking next to the US, so how exactly does that support your argument? Also, I HIGHLY doubt your statement, nearly every western European country has a better standard of living than the US for most people, the US is only better if you're wealthy. This is literally MEASUREABLE. Better healthcare, better education, better housing (except UK), higher quality and cheaper food, lower price of living, longer lifespans, less obesity, diabetes and heart disease, less pollution, more economic/social mobility, better public transport, better infrastructure that's actually maintained, more modern, fairer voting systems that actually give a wide variety of political parties and independents a reasonable shot at political power, as opposed to a binary choice between two corrupt dinosaurs that dominate everything and divide their own people against each other...

@@robokill387 I'm actually impressed at how quickly you responded to this, but to address your claims, the problem with comparing statistics between countries is, well, you're at the mercy of the reliability of their methods to develop those statistics (not to mention the deliberate shenanigans certain countries are notorious for to paint a rosier picture than reality). Alas, I'm not willing to invest the time needed into researching this data you cite to determine whether you have a point or not. What I will say is that material quality of life, if you will, doesn't always mean happiness. There's a fair bit of civil unrest throughout Europe, as there is throughout the world. European countries are very secular. I don't like that, and I don't think it's something to look to as an example. If you are silly enough to try and argue about that, well... All I can say is my mind won't be changed as to the misery of those who don't know the Lord, no matter what anyone says. A person of average intelligence should know that religious people are not easily swayed in their beliefs, yes?

In other words, "I can't disprove your point with anything approaching actual facts, so I'll just claim that all the data is made up and use my own alternative facts instead."
"material quality of life, if you will, doesn't always mean happiness." Yes, but self-reported rates of happiness are far higher in most European countries too. I was about to question where that idea of mass civil unrest in Europe came from, but I looked it up and got a bunch of right-wing American tabloid sites and blogs. So, yet again American right-wingers exaggerating problems in Europe like they do regularly.
"European countries are very secular." Not really, America is more secular than most European countries, I mean America has seperation of church and state while many
European countries have an official state religion, have religions as part of their national identities and use Christian symbols on their flags. Europe is less religious, but not less secular.

To be fair it's funny a lot of these seem like elementary / junior high schools but to be fair a lot of that kind of stuff I didn't see or get to buy till high school so I'd sure like to know where these schools were 🤷 and you cannot make me believe that kids behavior is because of food 😆

Once I got to middle school, by 7th grade, all the vending machines were gone, snacks were gone, and the food quality got so much worse. Nothing was homemade or at least came from a major food vendor anymore.

@@ShadowLinkxMaster I believe you. I'm not far from your age. I was in the 1st grade in 2004. The vending machines in my middle school were filled with "healthy alternatives" which no one really bought, although the school lunches were still passable. Now my siblings are the ones going to school and they absolutely hate the meals which according to them are worse than prison food.

I wonder if the schools in the U.S are still feeding this crap to kida for lunch. Definitely not healthy. Especially since you don't teach Physical Education. The way the guy in this movie said it just irritated me. I'm glad to live in Canada where this didn't go on when we were in elementary school.
