Honestly I like them both. Gelatin holds a little better and lard melts in the heat easier. Gelatin is less messy and a bit easier. I like the lard more during winter for feeders.
Gelatin. Birds really like the Lard. But make sure it's good Lard from a butcher or meat dept. You ask for some. Nothing that has added chemicals to it. The Lard melts in high heat of course. The gelatin will hold better in heat... but of course if it's really hot anything will start to melt quicker. Store them in the freezer
No No No no vegetable shortening and no corn syrup. You’re going to make your birds sick. Lard is good. Gelatin is ok in small amounts, but I would never feed my birds using it. Use natural peanut butter because there isn’t any salt or sugar. I would never follow your recipes.
